This is heartbreaking. She was one of my faves growing up. I don't know how many times I sang along to, "Out Here On My Own" on my 45. That song was on repeat as a kid. I loved Fame, first the movie, then the TV series. If you haven't seen the movie DC Cab, you should look it up. It was hilarious. A lot of great actors was in it including Ms. Irene Cara. She was a very gifted and talented woman and was wrongfully taken advantage of in the industry. Rest in Peace Ms. Cara! Your work will forever live on. 🙏🥺❤️

I own the DVDs of Sparkle, Fame, and DC Cab and watched the VHS tapes of them as a kid in the 1980s. Some of Irene Cara's off-the-radar stuff is also pretty interesting. Sparkle was also Joel Schumacker's first screenplay before doing The Lost Boys and Falling Down. Philip Michael Thomas went on to do Miami Vice and voicing Lance Vance in GTA Vice City. Sparkle is a little movie that kicked off alotta important careers.

This performance is breathtaking. It really makes you wonder why "Rico" and Irene Cara didn't do more collaborations and why neither never made it in the music industry, save for two big hits for Cara. All the musical talent in the world, these two... Just shows you how vital management and promotion are to the careers of singers..Black love, nothing greater, in this scene. I'm American Indian but still inspired by this film romance showcasing how powerful the bond is between two Africans.

How many times have I cried watching this particular scene as a kid growing up admiring Irene Cara so much? If you've never seen her in Sparkle, Fame and Aaron loves Angela, those are must-sees. This original version of Sparkle is everything wonderful, from beginning to end. Superb acting, singing, costumes, the whole 9 yards! I love you, beautiful Irene. You inspired me to sing & dance as a youngster, and we had many other things in common also, even looks & thick, long wavy hair. Rest in heavenly peace now, as you've spread your wings and flew away from this earth. Your amazing legacy is set in stone, and you'll never be forgotten. Prayers up for Irene Cara's family & friends who are bereaved at this time. See you in Heaven, beautiful one. God's got you now. In Jesus' name, amen.

i looooooove this movie soo much... " i know my man he really love's me you know we don't have that everyday" darn i really love that part
She was missing Sista in this scene.. She loved Sista
This movie holds a special place in my heart always

It was back in a time when being young and trying to get out of the ghetto and having a man love you unconditional and would do anything just for his lady to shine. Back then that was love. Not saying there's no love now but back then it was wanted, trusted and desired to no limits.
I have absolutely no idea why this scene popped up in my head while driving home from work & I had to come here & watch it! I like this movie but it was too depressing until it got to this point. Still a classic!
They are sooo sweet together!
Ain't nothing like this original. My family had this on VHS. For the new school, VHS is a video cassette (Video Home System).
The chemistry they had was something I've never seen again on film.
One of the best chemistry scenes of all time!!!! The remake was a joke! The original Sparkle will forever be one my favorite movies!

Yes but the remake wit Whitney Houston was good too but not good as this one this was Whitney Houston favorite movie

Phenomenal! The fact that the cast of Sparkle was not allowed to release a soundtrack was extremely unfair! I am a fan of Aretha Franklin, but it still was not right.

We'll miss you Irene, RIP. 1959-2022.
Yes,I loved this as a kid and still love it now. I never understood why they let Aretha Franklin do this soundtrack. I prefer the original tracks. Irene killed thus and that high note...."yeah,yeah,yeah...ahhhhh!!!!" Wow! Love that .
I can't believe she's gone. She went too early and she did not get the appreciation she deserved. R.I.P Irene, your music and talent lives on.
It's 2017, and Im still saying the same thing I said when I first saw this movie at age 14, He Is Sooooooooo Fine:) Philip L.Thomas, The Finest Black Man I have ever Seen, beautiful, If I were back int he 70's:)

This scene lends soo much hope! Really love how that background singer looked sooo happy for their Love!

One of the first performances with these two I had as a kid. Magical.
Irene and Philip play such a beautiful💔role in this wonderful classic movie Sparkle Irene Cara please Rest In Peace🎑
Sparkle was released almost 12 years before I was born - but once my Grandmother introduced me to the film at 3 years old, I continued to hold this body of work close to my heart. Today we found out that our Sparkle transitioned, and while that pains me - I sincerely hope that Irene knew what impact she had, and the indelible mark she left on black culture. Rest in love beautiful - you will be sorely missed. 🥺🧡🧡
My Absolute Favorite.....I just love this song!
Every time I see this raw example of talent, I SMILE! Nothing against the new movie, but this is what Sparkle was all about! Their struggle to the top was hard, people died, people sacrificed, laid it on the line, and somehow they made it. That's what was missing from Sparkle 2012. That was the NICER VERSION, but I love them both!
Both of them are very underrated entertainers in the show business man.
Sparkle is one of my favorite movies and sound track!!! I love every last song ecspecially for me and my BABY...

RIP ...ONE of my favorite scenes. I watch this at the movies the week it came out..
OMG, this is my absolute favorite part of the movie. For me, it was one of the most romantic scenes ever in a film. What makes it even better is to know that they were really singing this song. Philip Michael Thomas-oh I had a big crush on him! Every time Irene Cara hits that note I get chills! All the women in the movie were so beautiful! Truly an iconic movie that has stood the test of time.

I think the original Sparkle was better but I really liked the remake. Whitney Houston saw a dream project come true. She brought so much life to character of the mother in the film. I think the original Sparkle and Stix characters had better chemistry than the characters in the remake. Overall, we have two great films.
