I just wanted to say thank you for doing this video. I completed today and it took 6 hours. I didn’t think I could do it before I watched your video, but it gave me the confidence to even give it a try. I have hip dysplasia and a right hip labral tear, I wanted to give a good go before surgery (I’m 36) or prove to myself I could postpone surgery for a few more years. I walked super slow and it was very hot. I found this harder than Machu Picchu. But. I would do it again. Thanks guys!

The mountains seem to just go straight up from the sea... Sharp, rugged beauty.. What a path! WOW... I would have to stop at the top for a day or two to rest up to finish.

Fantastic, better than I was expecting.

Just completed walk yesterday,my husband and I are both mid 60s,we did find it difficult but have no regrets and did enjoy it. Take plenty of water and take your time,it's not a race!

Mmy legs are like jelly just watching it lol 😆 ive seen this walk before and it's something I want to do! I can see just how popular this hike is! So it had two routes did you take the left route? Absolutely fantastic! Love the views and a well earned chocolate bar! Was going to ask if you got taxi back but I can see you did the whole walk in reverse also! Thanks for sharing this epic hike!

Have done this hike twice. It can be brutal in parts but definitely worth it for the views and sense of achievement. Once finished there and back…. a beer and some food are most welcome

Just checked out the hike on the map; amazing. There are a few caches along the way :) And of course virtuals at the peaks, hehe So many times it looked a lot like Angel's Landing in Utah, only wider and a much more solid trail (and better hand guides) :) But the views and sheer drops... o_O

Hi, you have to drive to Pico do Ariero if you want to do the hike we did, there’s good parking there but it does get busy.

There is always that one person. Luckily it was not me this time. What a fantastic spot, beyond my capabilities. I feel sorry for the workers who go up it everyday to serve coffee and chocolate.

How twisty and winding is the road up to the parking lot? and how long do the twisty roads last? I tend to get car sick on twisty roads so just wondering if I should take motion sickness medicine before hand

The road up was windy but manageable, it was a good half an hour or so from Funchal.

Do you have a hike recommendation in Madeira that would be a good preparation hike to PR1? Im a little concerned about the altitude so a hike around 610-1200m would be preferred

Only you know your children’s capabilities but it is a tough hike with some high steps and steep ascents both sides of the valley! For children, I would instead recommend the PR8 hike, it’s on another vlog of ours! It’s safer and the views are incredible! Many thanks, Simon
