This couldn't be more true. When I joined, it was very sudden and I hadn't talked to a recruiter to secure a job in advance. Even though I scored a 93 on the ASVAB I got pinned with a job I didn't have a high affinity for. Don't get me wrong, I like my job but it's not as good as what I wanted. Talk to a recruiter in advance!

Hello Sgt. Lee, Could you expand on these occupation specialties? Which have the highest demand? What ASVAB score should I be looking at? MOS interests: 12y geospatial engineering, 12T technical engineer, 74D Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) specialist, 91J Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer, 92L Petroleum Laboratory Specialist, 92F Patroleum Supply Specialist, 94Y, or 94H. I will be enlisting(not pursuing becoming an officer) in the army mid 2017 after I have earned a Bachelors in process engineering specializing in process operation management. What job(s) would you recommend for a white guy from Texas to take to better my civilian career in the Chemical industry. Any insight, tips, or information would be appreciated. God Bless!

I was applying to air force. but im not a citizen so i was very limited to my jobs. i was told i had to pick 10 jobs i wanted. but i only had 3 i wanted. my recruiter said to just put down 7 more. so i did thinking i could just wait til i got a contract i wanted. BE CAREFUL. IF YOU GET A CONTRACT BUT DONT ACCEPT YOULL BE DISCHARGED FROM DEPS. and air force will never let you join again. i got a construction contract but i didnt want to do it. air force recruiter said if i dont accept i wouldnt be able to join the air force ever again. moral is only put down jobs you are willing to do. im applying to army now but the process to switch papers took over a month. so yes you can switch branches if youre in dep but it takes a while. good luck everyone

@@robertisham5279 Yes, the ASVAB is taken before you join. The scores of the ASVAB will determine what pool of jobs you qualify for. Before you go to the Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS ) to officially join the Army you will go over the pool of jobs you qualify for in the recruiting Station and pick one. All other branches do not do that and often you do not know your specific job till after basic training.
