Physicist REACTS to Rick and Morty

My reaction to Rick & Morty where we see go on an interdimensional travel for the first time. It's the Season 1 Episode 1 of Rick and Morty, baby :)

Hello it's Laure, your friendly neighborhood physicist. Today is Friday night, it's raining in Paris so I figured we would watch together the first episode of Rick & Morty and do a reaction. #rickandmorty #reactionvideo

It's funny that you mention the fact that Rick's spaceship behaves as if it's a car on the road rather than a flying vehicle. They actually touch on this later in the series, and there's an in-universe reason for it haha 😂

@@LaureREACTS YOUR AWESOME, keep reacting, especially with rick and Morty, I will be there!
The first 3 seasons are really good; I think the 3rd season really hit its stride and every episode was a banger. The first episode is pretty rough compared to later episodes - not just seasons, but even just a few episodes later it's much more polished. But "They're not robots" "It's a figure of speech, Morty. They're bureaucrats; I don't respect them" remains one of my favorite jokes in the show.

A Neutron bomb is where the case is left out of the core which makes the nuclear explosion far more weaker yet increases the deadly radiation output of the bomb far greater then that of any regular nuclear bombs. The idea was that the buildings would still be standing after it killed all the people. We learned how to make these bombs before we understood radiation fallout and decay. Most bombs have a reflective shell around the core (Plutonium sphere ones not the trigger projectile ones) This shell reflects the explosion back into the core and increase the blast radius while lowering radiation releases. The neutron bomb is a scientist asking, "what happens if we leave out the casing that protects the core?"

@@LaureREACTS There's also an Evil Morty who shows up later. R&M has a lot of continuity where things that happen have effects later on or get referenced in later episodes. There's an episode where the Smith's house gets picked up in some type of energy bubble then later it's put back and from then on there's a crack in the driveway, except IIRC in some episodes in other dimensions where that didn't happen so the driveway doesn't have the crack. There's tons more small details like that which they've kept track of. The episodes run around 22 minutes but to me most of them feel like I've watched an hour because so much story is packed into those 22 minutes.
The writing took a dip in later seasons. Can you believe they unironically were making a joke around the idea that oil is dinosaurs? No quality control. Glad to see Futurama still going strong.

6:44 an idea about potatoes is it possible that the universe itself has reached a sort of tipping point where equilibrium can no longer be achieved? The idea is that we're using a system of measurements based on a universe that still has balance and so we can't make sense of some data because we're not measuring correctly. very broad idea and I hope it makes sense. I am not studied and tend to play with simple concepts when learning about big things so if it's complete sci-fi, I can still write a story about it. Also, subbed.
@LaureREACTS

11:49 If there are different “dimensions”, would constants like gravity be the same in all of them? If it’s the many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics, I guess “yes”, because they (presumably?) originate from one world and the numbers are constant. But then I’ve heard that altering the gravitational constant very slightly means planets don’t form - so our universe is “perfect” for life to an unlikely degree - implying there might be infinite universes with the gravitational constant varying.
@LaureREACTS

The best 21st Century comedies all have protagonists we're not supposed to like: Rick and Morty, Arrested Development. Archer, and of course Always Sunny.Best way to hold a mirror up to society now we all know we're not God's gift to the Earth.

@kidswidcrayons

Ah yes but Michael Scott from the Office, David Brent from the UK Office, and C21st Homer aren't the put upon protagonist trying to make it in a crazy world. THEY'RE what's wrong. Then you have your other less memorable main characters to ground them. Like in South Park, where most of the time we're rooting for Stan Kyle and Kenny, whose worldviews and decisions the audience can relate to, but the star of the show is Eric Cartman, who overtly represents everything wrong with humanity. Always Sunny and Archer both went for the whole main cast being bad people and the innocent people around them being the eyes the audience see the show through, but it's all part of the same pattern. It's a 9/11 thing. Also around the time comedies stopped being set in specific cities or states. And we Brits loved these new shows and were so ploud of murica for learning the trick is not to MAKE the joke, but to BE the joke. Our answer to the new wave was The Thick of It, which bounced back across the pond to become In The Loop*. But one exception to prove the rule would be my favourite show of all time, Community. The main characters are all flawed, but we love them anyway, and when one of the group strays towards darkness the others pull them back. Gon go see if you've done any Community reactions... *everyone watch Death of Stalin 👌
