Good to watch and learn more about these wonderful pieces. I do enjoy when you explain why you do remove, or do not remove, a particular part. Very interesting. Thank you.

I own a number of watches with this movement in them. I've heard a lot of conflicting stories about the quality/reliability of this movement. Some people have owned the watch for years and have never had a problem. Others have had problems very quickly. I have yet to have any problems with mine but I have a lot of watches and wear them very infrequently. I'm hoping that because of this, my watches will run for a long time problem free.

The one thing apparent on this one is that there's quite a bit of dirt when viewed under a loupe and that's really only down to assembly facilities and cleanliness but at the price it's not unexpected. Build and finish quality is certainly not Swiss factory but it's very good and to create a 2 register chrono for this price is amazing. I hope yours continue to soldier on and that parts houses start carrying spares for them in the future.

I also have exact same watch with exact same problem. It broke right out of the box within a few attempts to operate the chronograph. I guess I will need a new 1902 movement and need to shorten the reset pin to get it working again. :(

Very interesting, as always! It's unfortunate but not surprising that the part would fail where it did, right at the bend, especially considering the quality control issues associated with these very inexpensive watches. A bit of clicking around the Internet showed this part to be similar to a Venus 175 fly-back lever part 8180, but I'd have no idea if the Venus part would be dimensionally close enough to be considered for substitution.

I'm hoping it is about the right size as unsurprisingly I can't find a source of spares for the seagull. I don't know if it's just geographical and that parts are hard to source outside of China or that the movements are relatively cheap and considered swappable? Fingers crossed we'll get this up and running for you.

@@spidiq8 It's a sad commentary on the throw-away mindset for even highly-engineered and labor-intensive devices. I can't find Seagull movement components, either. This video suggests that a Venus part would be acceptable for substitution, but there is no information on if modification was required. I am more than happy to pay for a Venus replacement part just to find out whether it would work or not. It's your call, as always. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pX-dlaOfhJfeqto.html

Helo, here is Greg ... nice voice, by the way. Well, I have the same watch, with the same broken part and after researching the internet, and making the part by myself I´d finaly ask directly by Phylida and they send me the broken part. But my homemade part also worked. 🙂 But my big QUESTION is: How do you get the movement out??? And the other thing ist. The reset lever will break again, because the reset button is to long! Either you have to shorten the button (pusher), or put a spacer on it. Excuse my english, please. English is not my first language. ;-)

Hi Greg and thank you so much. That's really useful information. Top remove the entire movement it needs to come out of the front of the watch but the bezel is very very tight, I had to open a gap between bezel and case using a thin sharp wedge on a bezel removal tool then pry it gradually working around with a case back knife.
