"Its our fault". "Sure you'll get a refund". "OK, we broke it, we will fix it". "We couldn't repair it. Just take another one off the shelf, we will deal with the distributor." "This guitar/bass/amp/cab doesen't make sense for you, there are much better deals for beginners". "Wait a moment, I'll just go to the storage and get you the model in the color/with the pickup configuration/the neck you want". "Sure we will order it for you". This is why I love the old mom and pop music store in my hometown, because those people will do all this things for you.

@@hotshot0476 it sounds like you chose wisely. These days, the difference between an inexpensive guitar and an expensive one is just not important for beginners. As long as it's playable and has good tone, then you've got what you need. Your skills are bot going to exceed the capabilities of the guitar. If I time travelled back to the 1970s I'd tell you a different story. :) But CNC machines and standardized designs, have done a lot to improve the quality of beginner guitars.

I mean, I don't talk out loud to myself when I go into a guitar store, but two of those are true for me. There was that one time I went in and specifically ONLY played a bass - when I spotted a vintage Mosrite late-60's bass hanging on the used gear wall (and I do wish I'd had the $1,600 to buy it at the time). And, 9 times out of 10 when I do go in, I do ignore the guitars if I'm just there to buy strings.

You laugh now, and keep it up. enjoy it while you can still muster a smile. Your GAS is doing 5 octave arpeggios in the studio 8 hours a day. So, 28 years from now, when it shreds on you and takes away the last bit of hope you had, and you look around and see the tens of thousands invested in gear, ultimately for what? To sit around listening to strings vibrate... then you have to either face it every day or face it, one-by-one as you sell them at a loss, realizing the real price you paid in missed opportunity to appreciate life.

Hmm, something makes me think you're better than you let on. Usually it's the most thoughtful of people who end up being the most talented. It's sort of necessary really. If not, then just practice and *only* compare yourself to your yesterday-self. Then as long as you have a love for the instrument, you be really good soon.

Kjartan Johansen we should do musical product reviews, like play new pedals to show people that are at our level how it will actually sound when they play it 😹

Reminds me of my first guitar, my dad was already into playing buy leaving there with a custom airbrushed flying v and a (way too powerful for my needs) laney amp.... why do I only now realise that my present from my dad was actually for him as an excuse to but more gear. And now I'm about to buy my daughter her first guitar......hmmmm an Ibanez Paul Gilbert should be adequate hehe.

I never realized how popular it is for people not to tune their instruments unless its noticeably out of tune... I tune every time just out of habit and it makes me really happy to hear it in tune

I don’t know any guitar store where that would happen. If you’re worried about being bad all the time, you wont get better. Every good guitarist at some point was at the same level you’re at right now.

I used to be like that when I was first getting into guitar, maybe 6 or 7 years ago. But eventually I just realized that it was only the start that was super awkward, once I got into it my confidence was normal again. So now I can care less, I set that amp to my settings, volume 3, bridge position, and whoever does hear me is welcome to, here goes the entire Holy Wars rythem track lol

Yea, but they have some assholes in Canada too now, lols. It's not like in the days when Niel Young, Rush, Donald Sutherland and William Shatner were the few people we knew from Canada. But although they are generally much more polite, that doesn't always make them generous or concerned with the welfare of others. Take jordan peterson for example, that guy is a straight up asshole. Most Americans I know are a lot more polite than he is too, lols.
