Lovely Video! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard about - Riddleagan Made Masterpiece Remedy (google it)? It is a good one of a kind guide for learning professional photo editing without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.

Thank you for this! For several years I have tried to understand the concept of layer masks, but for some reason, I always got "lost" when it came to telling us to use brushes to paint on the layer. But your explanation was clear and concise, and I NOW finally understand it. Thanks again!

I see people commenting about the complexity of your video, but I thought it was very easy to follow. I really enjoyed it. GREAT tutorial!

These videos are very well done and I enjoy the personality of Ed. Just a suggestion, and I hope you receive it in the manner in which it was intended, not to be critical but helpful. As a long time photographer and instructor when I am explaining layers to my students, I use the "clear acetate" sheets that were previously used for overhead transparency projections. My students seem to more easily understand the concept of layers because it is visibly evident. When you place a drawing over the subject or behind the subject that can clearly see what is happening. To show layer masking I use scissors to cut around the image to demonstrate masking. I can also have some tinted sheets (colored but still transparent) to demonstrate hue saturation adjustments by placing them over an image. Have a wonderful day and please continue with the informative videos...

Ed, you explained that in such an understandable manner for me. I will have to watch parts of it several times, until i get the hang of it. I understood layers, but never seemed to grasp what masking was. Now I do. I enjoyed the beginning with your drawings, by the way, it worked for me! This is great. Some people really don’t get what layers are especially if they haven’t worked with anything g like this before If I didn’t know what layers were before I would understand now very clearly. I still don’t know how to get the layers box to show up on ps though. It like disappeared

Nice work. I thought for a second that you were just scribbling about! I like it! You have got to love Layer Mask. I started using Photoshop version 1 back in the 1990's we didn't even have layers then! We had to wait until version 3 for them! "you tell that to the kids these days and they don't believe you" ;)

Hey Ed, I am trying to follow your work and with the brush tool I cant get a solid colour like you, it is transparent. Everything is set to 100%, What am I missing?

Hi everyone :) Does it work on any image format or on only raw images? I am trying on a jpeg and I can't get it right...

When I use the quick selection tool I don' t have the option "refine Edges". Instead it says "Select and Mask" there. What can i do? thanks

Hi, in the 9:00 range I cant make my subject appear on the layer mask like yours (when the foreground dissapear and only the girl and floor still happear), my image stays like she is and i only can see that change in black and white by looking to the layer mask area (where we have the layers)

I've been editing photos for a long time, but I've never like drawn in Photoshop to do digital art, and I can assure you that this has helped me greatly. I just couldn't connect the concepts lol. Thanks 😂😂

At 7:16 you have hidden the top layer and layer mask by clicking on the eyeball. While keeping the layer mask active (bracket showing) you begin to make a quick selection of the blue background on the layer 0 copy layer. How is that possible when you don't have the layer 0 copy active? When I tried it as shown with the top layer selected and layer mask highlighted, the quick selection tool only found the squiggly lines that I had drawn. What am I missing here? I wish I could figure this out as this seem to be a great tutorial. Can someone help me out?

I was of the school of thought that layers were enough but seems that the limits will be pushed I havent any ideas on how this will progress maybe new criteria layer-layer masks-x layers if you follow me.

+Mike K photos don't come in layers in photoshop. They are just a single layer filled with information. It is you the creator who has to make the layers. If you follow my photoshop tutorials here on KZread from my first one it will all make sense. I walk you through it step by step. Good luck.

Photoshop layers are definitely something that takes a while to get you head around. But once you get it you will see how powerful it all is. Just watch the video a few times and then just push forward and work though all my other videos and you will see how they work. Honestly you will get get it. I promise. Yes, but in this case, "centered" is the​ correct term.

There are several factors in photoshop lessons. One place I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Trevs photo blue print (google it if you're interested) it's the most incredible plan i've seen. Check out the awesome info.

That is what you should be getting. If you dont have anything in you project then when you create a new layer you are still seeing the bottom layer. You have to add something to your photoshop layers to actually see something. I hope this helps you out and you are enjoying learning from my photoshop layers tutorial for beginners.
