    While she is based in New York City, Katie finds it important to get away from city life to appreciate and capture our deep connections to nature and animals. What do you find most inspiring about these resilient horses?

    I'm ready for a story that is not dark and gritty. I love horses and their beauty. It's so nice that these guys can just be who they are...not as much of a human connection as a connection with each other. Nemo is really doing well and seems happy. That is amazing. Thank you for your photographs. I am looking forward to your next visit. I am from OK and I know people still feel as if is THE BADLANDS, INDIAN TERRITORY, but our cities are just as far away from the country as a person can get.

    Guiseppe it is folks like you that helped bring down the price of the average horse in the US, therefore leading to more old horse neglect. Before animal activists got involved it was possible to sell old or crippled horses for slaughter vs just having to euthanize them or pay to have them sit and eat hay at the cost of rancher/farmer. Now a lot of old horses get neglected/malnourished/get poor care by folks who can't really afford to own them. That did not happen as often when they could be brought to auction and sold for meat abroad. I grew up on a cattle ranch and love horses. But when a horse is no longer useful for working on the ranch or farm, selling that horse for slaughter was an economic advantage over just euthanizing it feeding it till it died. I have no problem with anyone eating horse meat.

    Sometimes, people spend money to help others because they simply care about those individuals. Not everything people do is for their own personal profit or other exploitive benefit. A few of my friends run sanctuaries and don't exploit the residents for their own purposes. They make money in other ways (fundraisers, donations, plant farming, craft markets, etc). Horses aren't resources. They're not things to serve our desires. They are sentient individuals with the inherent right to their own lives.

  • @jesse7503
    @jesse75036 жыл бұрын

    Where is the rescue ranch for elderly old homeless humans? Thats great for these old horses, but would rather see a story about some old homeless folks farm where they live out there final days gardening or something. Everyday in LA county I see really old people begging in street but nobody is buying them a farm. Somebody with some money is wasting it on old horses. Take those old horses to some unused BLM ground near a water source. They will be fine and happier. Spend the money on some suffering humans in US.

  • @VixenAurora

    @VixenAurora

    6 жыл бұрын

    Why help elderly humans? There are children in need. Until all children are safe and sound, we shouldn't waste money caring for the elderly. All the places that do already exist to take care of the elderly need to stop and redirect their time towards children. That's how you sound. You don't have to neglect all other groups of individuals to only restrict to caring about a single group. We can care about everyone. You wouldn't think such a thing if you were the horse. They value their lives JUST like we value ours. Your speciesism is irrelevant to them. They want to live their lives. Their lives have inherent value.

  • @jesse7503

    @jesse7503

    6 жыл бұрын

    I care for all humans especially groups that are vulnerable such as children, disabled, and the elderly. I care for humans over animals. Im merely making an analogy of the old horses and elderly humans. Both are often forgotten groups. But the old horses can survive on their own on government lands until nature takes its course. Elderly homeless humans not so easily. Your misunderstanding the point I brought up here. Horses are animals. They don't reason about the value of their lives. They just live, eat, and naturally avoid predators. I grew up on a horse and cattle ranch in Colorado. To ranchers and cowboys horses are invaluable for herding and managing cattle. But when old they are no longer useful. They can either be sold for meat overseas, or if they were a very good mount, put out to pasture, until they die. Thats assuming the rancher or cowboy can afford that.
