    There's so much to explore in that area of Scotland, and with the ever changing weather adding to the anticipation of the potential photographs. 'The Great Wilderness' is an amazing book and great value, with the included location maps as well as the photos.

    Yeah there’s no shortage of places to explore, although I have to say I have walked almost all of the valleys and ridges now, so it is getting harder to find spots that are truly new to me! Really glad you’re enjoying the book!

    Hi Alex: Thank you for creating and sharing this video. Your timing on releasing this video is perfect as we are in the process of planning a trip to Scotland for May 2025 and Torridon along with Loch Carron is on our bucket list of many locations to visit. The image that you captured of the hail storm is amazing. Keep well. . . . Cheers, Keith (Canada) P.S. Congratulations on the new addition to your family.

    I hope you have a fantastic time. If I had any tips it would be not to try to travel too much, and book restaurants! It will be quite busy in May (I will be there too incidentally, for two weeks)

    Well it’s good to think these things through, but it’s more important to enjoy yourself! I enjoy thinking about composition like this, but I wouldnt want it to get in the way of the experience!

    Excellent.. A word to the wise... when our son was small we had both a pappoos and a front carrier. When in the poppoos he would twist my ears terribly, and when he was in the front carrier he would put his hand into my shirt and yank out the hair! Have fun... I'm sure you will, and treasure every moment too,@@alexnail

    Alex, I wish so many of the camera phone snappers watched this, then they may have something worth looking at later! A small movement this way or that, a little lower or higher adds so much; or, just walk around an area to see what works best... Thanks for filming and posting this. Many should find it very useful. One last thing, if people do walk around looking for the best shot, take care not to step on anything, and watch where you are going! MRTs are busy at the best of times.

    Congratulations on becoming a father Alex, I’m sure you’ll all have many exciting adventures together in the Highlands in the years to come. The discussion of the first image was great and I can see how much the palette changed, in the video the tree in distance you managed to get separation as it sits in the V of the burn, but in the images it’s touching the other trees of the foreground Alex as my eye is drawn to that tree as you follow the burn, maybe it was your intent to highlight the fallen tree more as with its branches it evokes an almost stag like presence. The second image for me has that atmosphere you mentioned re Scottish weather but the layering the hail created was immense and I actually liked the first attempt as I liked the midground pines, the final attempt though does convey quick get the shot and retreat to the pub! 😂

  • @alexnail

    @alexnail

    4 ай бұрын

    Yeah, I was just trying to get as far right as possible but I must admit I can’t have noticed the tree at the time or I would have corrected my position slightly! Nevertheless it’s a minor thing honestly, a nice detail that I got slightly wrong! And yes, as for the second image it’s a choice between weather and composition!

    Hi Alex, really enjoyed that video as always. With the hailstorm scene, I actually much prefer the initial one you took, when the hail was stronger, as in the other photo, the path in the middle distance was slightly 'cutting the photo in half', whereas in the one you've gone for, the foreground trees mask off much more of the unsightly path. Look forward to your next video!

  • @alexnail

    Ah that's an interesting point, I hadnt really considered that line of grass (its not a path BTW, there are no paths here, its simply long golden grass growing beneath the trees). Thanks for your perspective :)
