Phosphorescence in a Fairburn Agate? Time to break out the UV light!

Howdy y’all! I soaked this one in all kinds of acids to clean out some calcite and then I hit it with the 365nm UV light! Watch till the end to see it glow!

Beautiful! Now, give this thirsty baby a good soaking of mineral oil ! It should become even more brilliant than it already is. ( just give it a try with your trusty Q-T trick and if, after a few hours, if you think it worth it, soak this beauty in some mineral oil ). Wonderful find and something to be proud of and to share with us. Great job cleaning it too! 😊

Will you ever cut that one? I didnt get too much from Oxalic acid. It was like citric, light touch. Also couldnt get it to dissolve properly. Another beauty Wayward!

No cutting this one for me. Oxalic has its place and use, when used correctly and in the right fashion. You also need to start with warm/hot water to dissolve it, and oxalic works best with heat. It is far heavier a cleaner than citric acid, it’s toxic. Again, it has its place when used correctly and for the right reasons. Most people have no need for it. It’s generally used to clean quartz crystal and remove staining. Also used to bleach wood. Works amazing, when used properly and for the right reasons. It does take some good soak time, days to weeks depending on the stones.
