Thank you for this wonderful video which so clearly explains the difference between Phonological Awareness and Phonemic Awareness and the importance of continuing to develop students' phonemic awareness beyond kindergarten and 1st grade! I can't wait to share this with my school district's Dyslexia Think Tank!

Thank you! This is excellent. As a parent and advocate, I now understand the differences. Repetition is key! Cannot day enough good things about this presentation.

Superb for my early literacy group! There is so little out there on the differences between the PA sub skills and this video addresses this so effectively.

Great stuff. I have been teaching reading for 16 years. This affirms to me that I am using correct practices and helped me have access to better practices and research. Thanks so very much. I enjoyed every minute and learned lots.

Interesting information. I am surprised that you have not referenced Orton Gillingham. Their program has provided success for students for many years. Just wondering.

the transcript needs working as I really benefit from reading as I listen and key phrases are left out...sure am 'decoding' in a sense!

Would you teach Road to the Code whole group or small group?

Hi Jeanette - interesting question. In the research, it was done as small group (3-5 students, grouped heterogeneously). However, a friend did her dissertation in which she developed Road to the Code as a whole group implementation. She never published it but it worked very well (she adapted the activities to make them more whole group friendly). Her name is Dr. Angel VanBoden - I wonder if her dissertation is available online to look at - I'll have to see.
