This was a wonderful show...I especially love this tune because of my affinity to Calypso music....I was perched in top deck and you could feel the entire place shaking! I remember looking around and seeing everyone in the entire building was getting down! That is what life is supposed to be about as far as I am concerned and these these 4 unique individuals have supplied us with it! You either get it or you don't! I get it!!! 😁

Filthy YaMar that will never be topped. The boys hit the 9 minute mark and sync up into one of their best grooves. I hope people do not overlook this gem.

My first two shows were 12/12 & 12/13/97. This will always be my favorite Ya Mar. Every time I listen to this sweet jamming I remember just how significant those first two shows were in my own personal phishtory. I'd been listening since '94 but was fairly inexperienced with live music. Those two nights were life-changing. As I came down South Pearl St and into the scene for my first time, I was overwhelmed with the realization I had a very large phamily of like-minded brothers & sisters I had no idea existed. All of them felt the same or similarly about Phish, and were emitting peaceful vibrations matching or compatible with my own natural wavelength. It was all topped off by the shows themselves, where I was overcome with emotion from feeling the energy of the band & crowd, my seemingly innate ability to connect with the band individually and/or as a whole, and learning how there is no replacement for being there- especially at indoor shows. Audience recordings were getting better, but could not completely capture some subtleties created when the sound interacts with the acoustics. For example the Theme from 12/13 d1t3 sounds pretty decent on the couple of sources I have, but was much more intense there where the sound ensconced me. And seeing Trey jamming into the sound reflecting back at him allowed me insight into why he was playing what he was. Obviously they each play what they thing works best in any given environment. So, I'm running on, but I want to thank you for your recognition of this Ya Mar as being one a lot more people need to hear. Peace!!

I saw exactly what you mean with Trey during 8/5/17 set I. From Jibboo on I watched him time and again glaring out into the arena looking like he was leaning into some sort of energy reverberating toward him. It almost looked like he was going to battle with it. So cool to watch him interact with te energy of the room. I felt so appreciative for everything that this band creates in that moment and it's something I'll never forget.

@@mattrobillard5650 97 and 17 are black and white. Phish is still a blast and has some great jams, but they are no where close in any manner to the stuff they were putting out in 97. But hey, as long as you're having fun that's all that matters.

@@ebitdareadthebook1535 Were they so much better in '97 or did you just enjoy them more because you attended the shows/were young and care free? There is a bias that many ignore. They're jamming still. Your perspective is what has changed.

It's a song from Mike's younger days by a band that would play by the pool at the resort he stayed at.

A)Geniously inspired art. B) Served up fresh and funky with a healthy calyipso presence. C) An unquestionable revelation of Higher consciousness at work. D) a wonderful paradoxical expression of synchronized chaos.
Just a reminder…this OPENED THE SHOW 😆

Where did this phenomenal recording come from? Is there a complete show recorded this well? I had these on audio tapes after seeing the show and they are all pretty poor quality. Fantastic!
Good sounds. AUD?

SBD, It’s from Kevin Shapiro “From The Archives” from Superball IX.
Why does it sound so much like a Tweezer jam afterwards? (It sounds eerily similar to the Denver Tweezer) 🤔

Probably because they completely leave the Ya Mar groove around the 9 minute mark. Great jam tho.
