Philly’s Most Wanted Were Supposed To Be The FIRST Clipse! Stunted Growth Music
Today’s feature were supposed to be a lot of things in the late 90s, early 2000s, but one opportunity they had before pretty much anyone else was to work on an entire album produced by the now world famous Neptune’s Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo before they became a household name and soon after washing their hands with the Philly Duo. Mr Man and Boo Bonic were so early in to the table that they are the ones who actually introduced Beanie Sigel to Dame Dash, Kareem Biggs and Jay-z himself. By the end Jay-z signed Beans, gave him his first major placement on his Vol 2 Hard Knock Life album on a song called Reservoir Dogs and the rest was history. Beanie Sigel blossomed into the hardest street rapper in the history of Philly rap, and had a successful run in the 2000s. Philly’s Most never got that Rocafella deal, signifying another move that just didn’t go their way. Over the course of the brief career, this would be the theme. Them always in the right place at the right time, but never securing the key that could unlock the door to rap success they were always right in front of. “Please don’t mind” is early neptunes fire. And very underrated. Plus “cross the border” was crazy.

that beat pattern they used on that song was used on several other neptunes produced songs (slave4you by britney spears and others ) . they had a huge part of the late 90's - early 2000's industry in a chokehold , always had bangers
Man I still play their first album to this day. They definitely could've been bigger especially having damn near a whole album with Neptunes beats.

Hell yea that album is a classic to me I still bump it on the regular it's crazy I was waiting for somebody to do a video on them
Bonic one of the nicest ever, his verse on “Hot” from the Clones album is remarkable, one of the slept on lyricist of his time
I was just listening to their first album "Get Down or Lay Down." Man they actually had a lot of potential and could rap. 👌

What stunted their growth was the Clipse
So basically Roc A Fella put together their own “Philly’s Most Wanted”…Chris & Neef better known as The Young Gunz…with that said , their song “ Please Don’t Mind “ was banging …by the time, the Neptunes had worked with Mase and Noreaga…maybe Busta Rhymes…if I remember right, Pusha T said him and Malice did some ghostwriting for Philly’s Most Wanted…I think one of the members was part of or rolled with da Clips when they put out Re Up Gang music but I agree with what you said…about da Clipse basically taking the sound that P & Chad gave Philly’s Most Wanted and improving on what was done before!
So to have Just Blaze and Neptunes produce that first album I know they spent a grip on that production. For that album to flop, I know that did some damage to they pockets.

I believe that too
Man that whole first album can do NO wrong in my book. That was the soundtrack to my life the year it came out. I was shining, balling and I had a different shorty every week. That album and all the hits on it was the embodiment of how I felt during that whole year. GREAT Album with GREAT production. 🔥

“Cocoa Leaf” with the Clipse and Fam-Lay is a CLASSIC record. Boo and Man got BARS BARS Their first album is all Neptunes amazing record
That 1st album was sooooo underrated...smdh it's criminal
Im lost at how Phillys most wanted was suppose to be the first Clipse when Clipse was out before them and started working with Pharrell before their Elektra deal in 96
My first intro to PMW was "Suckas" since Sigel was on fire at the time within the mixtape scene. Being from VA, I was into anything Pharrell put out so loved PMW first album esp Please Don't Mind and Philly Celebrities..... There was just TOO much going on musically for them to shine during the summer of 2001. Jay-Z and Nas were beefing and Blueprint was on the way (Izzo was out). Fabolous debut album was dropping and had hit singles out, Jadakiss debut album was dropping and had hit singles out, Sigel had just dropped The Reason. And there was also WAY too many Neptunes hits on the radio for theirs to shine. You had Knock Yourself Out, Young'n, U Dont Have to Call by Usher, I'm Serious by TI, etc..... Also Atlantic dropped the ball not shipping enough copies because I bought this CD on release day and had to go to about 3 or 4 stores to even find it. Like the video said, right place right time but just a mix of being overshadowed by other music and not being a priority at the label. I still love that first album though and still circle back to it.

I was living in southwest at the time they dropped crossed the boader with the album dropping soon after,i gripped the album & I banged thier music on my portable CD PLAYER (remember those?) ON MY WAY TO MY MCDONALD'S JOB almost daily for like 6 months.i can say everything you are saying in this paragraph is 100 percent accurate because I also bought ALL the cds you mentioned that eclipsed the Philly's most wanted album as well.those beats the Neptune's gave them were amazing, ESPECIALLY the one with the clipse feature.that album went absolutely HARD.

You're forgetting a very key factor about their early career... they started off with doing a soundtrack cut for the movie _Slam_ called "Ain't No Stoppin'" under just Most Wanted. It was produced by Pras of the Fugees who was also featured on the hook.
@KSoloLoso

They also got 3 songs with pras on pras 1st album also.
That Cross the border remix is a classic. I always liked Phillys Most

I used to hear Please don’t mind on the radio back when I was like 6 or 7 mannnnnnn I always had my ear out for that joint growing up cuz I never knew the name. I had the signature Neptunes square synth from the chorus stuck in my had ever since a kid. Neptunes joints always remind me of my early child hood

You took it back with this one
I remember #PhillysMostWanted those dudes had a nice buzz and was making noise for a good minute real spill ... They had talent and potential to be bigger than they got ... I always wondered where these brothers went as far as music goes because they were nice and had some dope singles no cap involved 🙏🏾✊🏾💪🏾✌🏾💯 !!!
Had a few sessions with them with Don Cannon ... They were/are very dope ... I would rather hear them than most people out today
Since you’ve done one on these guys, can you do one on the other Philly group, Major Figgas?
@demetriusstewart7636
Жыл бұрын
I hope they ready for that and the Nam brigade
There should be a stunted growth on the product G&B, they had so much potential.
And they didnt miss the roc opportunity. Roc wanted them beans and gillie & them as 1 group. Most wanted and major figgas didnt take the deal so beans signed solo, they were on Atlantic fw Pharrell and the figgas got a deal for an album that already went platinum in the city. When the major label re-released it that jawn flopped cuz we all already had it. This was around 98-99. And the deal that Roc offered them eventually went to state property.
The Clipse are my favorite group but I rocked with PMW tough.
"I'LL CROSS THE BOARDER PA-PA, AND WHAT WILL YOU BRING ME BACK MA-MA?" THAT WAS MY SHYT 👏🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️❤️❤️
I agree that they fall into the "stunted growth" category, but I don't believe the clipse took their spot. The Clipse dropped their first single, the funeral, in 98. Their first album, even though it was unreleased, it was leaked in 99. The Neptunes were working with them the whole time.
They bars was ahead of they time
definitely was another album i played to death back in summer ‘01 .. bought this CD strictly off the strength of “Please Don’t Mind” and The Neptunes production … they actually had a song with The Clipse on their album.. back when Pusha T was going by Terror… “wassup lova? tell’m take aim or take cover!” .. that “Sucka Remix” with Beanie Sigel was a banger also.. smartest thing they could’ve done back then was stick closely to Pharrell when he launched Star Track .. but idk what happened..
Them and Peedi Crakk should have been stars. Cross the Border was a classic
I feel like the young gunz took their slot in rocafella
Been waiting on this one 🔥🔥🔥
I had that 1st album and I loved them!!! I still listen to it today!

2023 Still playing "Please don't Mind"🔥🔥
Good video! You should do “U-N-I” next. They had the wave for a bit here in LA. Sucks how it played out.
good looking on this...Please Don't Mind & Cross the Border was my ish back in 00/01. Still hits 2day. Can u do Bathgate?
If you haven't done do Keri Hilson.

I used to bump their 1st album tough when I was in college. I loved that they collaborated with one of my fav producers, T-Mix (Suave House). Thanks for this. I always wondered what happened to them...I have some siggestions....Jamal, Milk Bone, Ghetto Mafia, The Dayton Family, Mr. Short Khop, Dom Kennedy and Myron (R&B)

It's kinda wild how I was JUST thinking about how the Clipse pretty much replaced PMW and then this video pops up
sad thing about most rappers is even when you got talent, it's still not enough to stay relevant, one reason it's important to have a backup plan when the fame goes away.... Ask Cool C and Steady B!

Dope Broadcast, help me understand something. I’ve been up and down your channel, a few times. How you gonna talk about the history of Philly emcees and not talk about Schoolly D, The Hill Top Hustlers Crew which consisted of Steady B, Cool C and 3-D. They had a good run in the mid to late 80s. Or is that to old school?
Yo can you do one one on smif and Wesson aka cocao brovaz, smoothe da hustle, the A team Joe Budden old click of Hitchcock and ransom
Mannnnn I was thinking about these dudes months ago Clispe took their spot man!!!
Thanks I always wondered what happened to these cats. I listen to please don’t mind at least once a week.
They 1st album was actually recorded in 99 and didn't come out until 2001
I gotta keep it 💯 I personally never thought Philly's Most Wanted was ever a dope group 🤷🏾♂️
Philly n the building
I was just slappin cross the border and please don’t mind recently. These dudes were dope for that time
Sean Price or nine or lords of the underground
One wrong move or situation can change your life for better or worse
I bought get down or lay down twice, only album along with justified
Can you do Smiles and south star ?
Stunted growth said..."Always at the pot, but never having the utensils to heat the soup" 😮
Something made me think of these guys, and just wanted to see what they've been up to, lately
I loved this group when they came out, I always wondered what happened to them.
In a Philadelphian...I like them but in my eyes they sounded like too much like "State Prop". They had no identity. It's a she cuz they had so much potential. With a little more push & the right record deal they could been one of the best in our city next to "Beans", "Oschino", "Young Gunz", "Rosco P. Coldchain" & "Gilly" They had a nice run.....Hearing getting radio play daily on Philly s Power 99 FM was a treat to hear us on the radio ...seeing South West Philly getting shine....even though I'm a Uptown North Philly head. I still gave it up to those guys. If you like them & you want to support Philly street music....you gotta check out "Ms Jade", "Major Figgaz", "Journalist", "Peedi Crakk", "Ram Squad", "Cassidy", early "Meek Mill"," Naam Brigade", "Dutch n Spade", "Cissero" & "Nina Ross". ..,... ⚔️🗡️⚔️🗡️⚔️🗡️
Philly Most Wanted >>> Young Gunz
I bought their album and like their music.
