    NO they won't turn on unless the engine is running because the control box waits until it detects 14 volts to turn on and less than that to turn off...

    Great video. Really clever thinking with the torch and 90 degree screwdriver. The instructions say to tap into the turn signal's power lead so when the turn signal is used, the LED will dim on that side. I noted cars that come with LED daytime running lights as standard equipment do the same thing. Supposedly the thinking is LEDs are so bright, they can interfere with seeing the blinking signal. I can confirm these are high quality lights. Thick metal housings with actual glass on the face (or so it appears).

    Yes I see on most new cars here in the US the DRL's turn off on the side the turn signal is used... When I purchased the LED lights the instructions said to use the low-beam wire... they must have changed it since then... I think the newer versions actually have an additional wire for that... Thanks for the comments...

The LED DRL one connection is connected to headlight.

    ok so the little box thing that you hook up to the battery is for them just to work right? and then the wire going into the actual light bulb socket terminal is just for dimming ? because my headlights are way harder i have to remove my whole headlight assembly and then remove caps off that to access the headlight sockets. it runs stock HIDs

  • @XMSMLL
    @XMSMLL11 жыл бұрын

    Yes the control box detects the voltage and needs to be 14v or higher to trigger the leds to turn on... so when you start the car the turn on and stop it the turn off once the voltage has gone down...

    Great tutorial. Just bought a 2013 Forte HB and was wanting to install DRLs on it. You mention hooking them up to the low bean wire. I'm wondering if the DRLs still stay full bright with the side marker lights on or if they dim? I'd like to wire mine to stay full bright with the marker lights on and only dim when the actual low beams are on. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

    When you have the red wire going into the positive terminal of the battery, you can run it through the a hole on the left edge of the positive terminal cover so that way, you're not smashing the red wire with the cap cover. Kind of hard to explain but if you look at the other wires going into the positive terminal, you can see how they run it under the cover.

    +Bill Daniel Thanks... that is weird I do/did not have any problem with the leds staying on... The control box cuts the power completely if the car is not on or detects less than 14 volts... so if you have hooked up directly to battery then seems impossible for them to be stay on very faint... unless there is something wrong with the control box...

    The 4LED unit has 3 wires. Two are always connected to the battery live 12V all teh time (13.5V) the third is a sense wire hooked to my CITY lite wire on GTI, which are on only when headlights are on also. Thus it is sensing voltage changes from 12V signal of city lamp. But they are turned OFF when I turn off key, even if on when no headlights on. There are no relays but a control module that came with it. It has to use voltage changes between car running which is around 13.5V versus engine

    Amazon has best price got the 4 LED model, work GREAT! How it knows to turn on and off in daytime with just always being hooked to battery! Slick engineering. Solid glass metal led. I used 3M moulding tape to mount brackets, no screws. 3M tape is super strong OUTDOOR really sticky stuff. 3M makes different versions of the tape. Car moulding type etc. the ehadlight sense is just for turning them off when headlights turn on. so how does itk now to turn off when I turn key off? it's senses?

    When you spliced the led lights into your headlights socket, does it take away power from the headlights? I know LEDs doesn't use much power but I was thinking of splicing FOG lights into the headlights socket but was scared that it might make my headlights dimmer if the fog lights take away power from it.

    They are connected to a +12v switched ignition source like a ciglighter. These get powered when the key is in POS II They do not use any real switching based on voltage. They dim or turn off with a relay and PWM when your lowbeams are on.

    Hi, I just installed the 8 leds on my brand new 2013 Soul, exact same way you did but I haven't hooked up the orange wire. It will works fine but have you noticed that if you hit your door locks with remote or have the dome light come on and go off, the LEDs turn on again for a few seconds soon as the dome light goes off due to the LED's sensing that there is voltage movement. This is with the engine OFF and key out btw. Nothing else aftermarket, no alarm, pure stock Soul.

  • @mikeyspeeds1056

    @mikeyspeeds1056

    Actually it doesn't blind them. I tested this on a super dark country 2 lane road with my dad coming the opposite direction in a car that sits low enough and he said they didn't bother him at all. I have them exactly mounted like you do. I think with the Soul, they are mounted low enough and shine directly down on the road in front of us that theres no glare to other drivers. And how is 14 volts detected when the car is OFF? Just the fact that the dome light turns off, how is that kicking the system back to 14 volts when the cars ignitions been off? Doesn't seem normal to me.

  • @XMSMLL

    Mikey Speeds I guess when you lock or unlock the car the flashing headlights are enough to trigger them and gives you a little extra light for a few seconds... Mine do not do that but maybe because they are not hooked up all of the way with the orange wire... I have read that others have the same thing happen to them with the light because they had a battery that was going bad... Because we have them mounted so low... on full power they may not be super blinding at night until you hit someone at the right angle on a hill...

    I e-mailed Mike at Philips and he is sending me the new updated Module. What I have is only V1.0. The new one has an added blue wire to it to hook it directly to a fuse box if they flicker. I probably don't need that blue wire but will be nice to have the latest module. And I will hook up the orange wire once I get the new module. My battery is also fine. I hooked a meter to it and it reads 12.3+ volts with the car off. I have 2 brand new Kia's here and they both read exact the same.

    Just curious if you used your own mounting screws? How much tightening force did you use? My advice for others is be careful when tightening the screws into plastics. They might strip the holes. Also be careful about punching holes for the screws so it's not too wide of a hole. The screws that come in this kit aren't very thick so the threads may not have enough grab area. You might want to consider skipping the screws that come with the lights and use slightly thicker ones from Home Depot or Lowe's.

  • @rkgsd

    gm, I'm not sure about the video poster but I was able to get the screws very snug but not rock solid tight to the point where they wouldn't turn anymore. The plastic is just 3mm thick. Not sure if that has something to do with it. The brackets are still solid and don't move though.

    That ABS plastic is pretty tough and as long as you don't make the holes too big the supplied screws work fine but I would still use some 3M Tape along with it like I did in the video....

    +XMSMLL i like it to have auto-aim, but I don't know where to find the wire for the light to connect together in the red connector box?? And, for some reason, my lights have slightly different color!!! :( sad I installed the Philips LED 9, doing the way you showed in the video with my BBQ lighter.

    sherwin deyro they're legal. Most new cars come with DRLs installed. Also, some insurance companies give you a discount for having them. So I would call my insurance company and find out

    They do not use SWITCHED 12V, they sense voltage CHANGES at battery terminals, Alternator spinning higher volts, and not spin battery voltages is around 12.4 versus around 13.6 on alternator spinning, brilliant stuff.

    daytime running lights do not attach to any of the other car lights, they are on all the time the ignition is on so you need a "live" ignition wire, then they just come on when you start the car

    It's not hooked to any SWITCHED 12V supply, it's brilliant, why would I want to hunt around for something inside for a switched 12V supply, it all stays under the hood, where it belongs, Brilliant design. Philips perfection, the lights are BRIGHT and optics terrific. Stand out as DRL much better than halogen 15W on GTI H15 Osram lamp (special only on VW Golf) dual fil high beam lamp 15/65

    Because LED lights are powerfully intense, especially at night, they are considered a driving hazard to cars approaching you. That's why the law is they must be able to dim at night.
