I have had these on my vehicle now for almost 4 years now and the lights are still working fine....
Thanks for posting this. Bought them. Installed them. Everything works well. Appreciate it!
I learn something new every day. Heating up an allen wrench to punch a hole into the fender is brilliant. Thank you!!!

NO they won't turn on unless the engine is running because the control box waits until it detects 14 volts to turn on and less than that to turn off...
Great video. Really clever thinking with the torch and 90 degree screwdriver. The instructions say to tap into the turn signal's power lead so when the turn signal is used, the LED will dim on that side. I noted cars that come with LED daytime running lights as standard equipment do the same thing. Supposedly the thinking is LEDs are so bright, they can interfere with seeing the blinking signal. I can confirm these are high quality lights. Thick metal housings with actual glass on the face (or so it appears).

Yes I see on most new cars here in the US the DRL's turn off on the side the turn signal is used... When I purchased the LED lights the instructions said to use the low-beam wire... they must have changed it since then... I think the newer versions actually have an additional wire for that... Thanks for the comments...
Wonder how these will look on my 2011 honda Accord, Might buy them and awesome video hopefully ill be able to use it on my car!!
yup, brilliant designing, from Philips. The tiny control module for teh 4 LED fits anywhere, it's water tight heat resistant meant for under hood environment. Good product.
Did the same ..year ago...easy easy...takes time .but well worth it..great video btw!!
Great video love the ANDROID logo on the front too Sweet! #TeamAndroid Beautiful how the LEDs look on your car

Thanks... had them for a year and they still work...
Thank you for your reply, the same LED Philips was installed by my friend in my VW , i have a quick question, since my VW was built that the DRL will turn on automatic if you start the car, and if I disable the auto on of the DRL headlight will the LED be affected as it will be disable too? The LED DRL one connection is connected to headlight.
looks real nice! Be nice to add these on my soul, the only thing that bugs me is having to wire stuff to the car batt. Great walk through, thanks.
Love this video ! Enjoyed watching it !
Nice job, thanks! [ I find that the instruction manuals / guides usually come in handy; i.e., USEFUL. EDIT: Or, as they say, "if all else fails, follow instructions." ]
Had a feeling you were recording with a Gopro, the sound quality through the housing is terrible. I bought the skeleton housing with an external mic, big improvement. Great video, very informative.

It was the first GoPro I am sure they are better now... Most of the video I narrated separately... Thanks..
ok so the little box thing that you hook up to the battery is for them just to work right? and then the wire going into the actual light bulb socket terminal is just for dimming ? because my headlights are way harder i have to remove my whole headlight assembly and then remove caps off that to access the headlight sockets. it runs stock HIDs
Yes the control box detects the voltage and needs to be 14v or higher to trigger the leds to turn on... so when you start the car the turn on and stop it the turn off once the voltage has gone down...
Nice video! But im a bit confused, when you tested the DRL they seemed blueish? And the picture in the end of the video do not look blueish.
So do you connect it to the low beam wire?
Sweet I have just a couple more questions on the KSF on your post. I want to be sure before I do this.
Hi,good job!!!! I have the Daylight4, we can do this with no dim??
Great tutorial. Just bought a 2013 Forte HB and was wanting to install DRLs on it. You mention hooking them up to the low bean wire. I'm wondering if the DRLs still stay full bright with the side marker lights on or if they dim? I'd like to wire mine to stay full bright with the marker lights on and only dim when the actual low beams are on. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
@XMSMLL

If the side lights are not kicking on your low beams too I would imagine it would work...
When you have the red wire going into the positive terminal of the battery, you can run it through the a hole on the left edge of the positive terminal cover so that way, you're not smashing the red wire with the cap cover. Kind of hard to explain but if you look at the other wires going into the positive terminal, you can see how they run it under the cover.
Great video and great job.On the test #1 you just connect module to the battery (led lights stays off) and when you start the engine they goes on ???Please respond.Thanks
How bright are these on sunny days? I installed similar ones and they're great at night or when it's not super sunny, but not as noticeable as my regular daytime lights on sunny days.
I got the same ones, but mine keep on blowing a fuse :(
Can I set up the DLR's to where they ONLY dim when the Low Beams are turned on rather when both the Parking Lights and Low Beams are turned on?
Loved the hot hole method!
Looks good, I just finished my 2008 highlander a few minutes ago. How did you get yours to dim instead of turn off when you turn on your headlights?
They should work on any car as long as they are hooked up right.. If you have the same grill or similar as the 2012 (I am not sure) should mount the same... I don't know if the wire colors are the exact same but not hard to figure out...
Good informative vid. I plan on putting the same set in my vehicle. How far inset are the LED's to the front of the vehicle and does it matter? Tks.
Great video! Quick question, if you didn't do the additional wiring in the "test 2" portion, would the LED DRL simply turn off with the headlights on? Or would the LED DRL stay on with the headlights on ,but won't dim? Thanks
@XMSMLL

@james684

Mrlolibre on mine you can choose between dimming or totally switching off with headlights. Personally I prefer them to go off, look a bit nafff when dim.
I think these lights would work nicely on the ssd light bar, as that already has a designated mounting spot, no measureing and the lights wont shake
How did you overcome the lights staying on after the engine is off and key is out? Mine stay on very faint because of the constant power running thru the car for all the electronics. Thanks - and this video was very helpful especially the tapping of the marker light to make the DRL's dim to 50%.

+Bill Daniel Thanks... that is weird I do/did not have any problem with the leds staying on... The control box cuts the power completely if the car is not on or detects less than 14 volts... so if you have hooked up directly to battery then seems impossible for them to be stay on very faint... unless there is something wrong with the control box...
I noticed you wired an in-line fuse from the battery to the control box and i was wondering what rating of fuse you used. BTW that was a very helpful video

The kit comes with it
Do you have the 4 or 8 led version...? The 4 led version only turns off and the 8 led version dims....
Hey Mark, can you have those LED lights dim during the daytime also?
Also if the car is on ACC or On with out the engine running, will the light turn on?
The 4LED unit has 3 wires. Two are always connected to the battery live 12V all teh time (13.5V) the third is a sense wire hooked to my CITY lite wire on GTI, which are on only when headlights are on also. Thus it is sensing voltage changes from 12V signal of city lamp. But they are turned OFF when I turn off key, even if on when no headlights on. There are no relays but a control module that came with it. It has to use voltage changes between car running which is around 13.5V versus engine
I suppose you would have to figure out at way to extend the black and red wires to the back where the battery is....
Question for you, is the color of these closer to 6000k or 5000k I'm trying to match my headlights to them and I was going to get 5k but these look slightly blue?
I mounted the the brackets about .25 in from the back of the ledge... I don't think it would matter... I just didn't want them protruding from the front at all... they follow the contour of the grille...
Amazon has best price got the 4 LED model, work GREAT! How it knows to turn on and off in daytime with just always being hooked to battery! Slick engineering. Solid glass metal led. I used 3M moulding tape to mount brackets, no screws. 3M tape is super strong OUTDOOR really sticky stuff. 3M makes different versions of the tape. Car moulding type etc. the ehadlight sense is just for turning them off when headlights turn on. so how does itk now to turn off when I turn key off? it's senses?
When you spliced the led lights into your headlights socket, does it take away power from the headlights? I know LEDs doesn't use much power but I was thinking of splicing FOG lights into the headlights socket but was scared that it might make my headlights dimmer if the fog lights take away power from it.
I added these to my two 2014 Santa Fe Sports. One day I almost got toasted by someone (nearing dusk but the bottom of a hill) pulls out in front of me. Goodness the car held the road and I avoided the car. Got these three week later. I used 3M tape to put them in the grill.
It must sense voltage changes when car is running and not 13.9v versus 12.6v when car not running! Cus it knows to turn off LED no switch connections, headlight sense just turn off when headlights turn on (city light wire I used ) these are high quality stuff! brilliant crisp color, BRIGHT!
hi my battery is in the trunk how would this work for me?
It's just that when the Led lights was dim...it looked so much better with the blue dotted lights.
They are connected to a +12v switched ignition source like a ciglighter. These get powered when the key is in POS II They do not use any real switching based on voltage. They dim or turn off with a relay and PWM when your lowbeams are on.
Would this work on a 2011 soul?
Hey, not sure if you still reply. I have a 2013 kia soul. Looks pretty much the exact same to your model. I think they are the same. And I really want to put these in, and it seems somewhat easy. Should I go for it?
@XMSMLL

I still have the same car and the lights work perfectly. So I would definitely recommend them...
Is it possible to just have the LED lights on bright rather than dim with the headlights turn on? I wouldn't think it would be a problem with headlights on and LED lights on bright. Nice HD vid.
Hi, I just installed the 8 leds on my brand new 2013 Soul, exact same way you did but I haven't hooked up the orange wire. It will works fine but have you noticed that if you hit your door locks with remote or have the dome light come on and go off, the LEDs turn on again for a few seconds soon as the dome light goes off due to the LED's sensing that there is voltage movement. This is with the engine OFF and key out btw. Nothing else aftermarket, no alarm, pure stock Soul.

Yes anytime 14 volts is detected the LED's will kick on.. you do need to hook up the dim option... you are probably blinding people at night... lol
@mikeyspeeds1056
10 жыл бұрын
Actually it doesn't blind them. I tested this on a super dark country 2 lane road with my dad coming the opposite direction in a car that sits low enough and he said they didn't bother him at all. I have them exactly mounted like you do. I think with the Soul, they are mounted low enough and shine directly down on the road in front of us that theres no glare to other drivers. And how is 14 volts detected when the car is OFF? Just the fact that the dome light turns off, how is that kicking the system back to 14 volts when the cars ignitions been off? Doesn't seem normal to me.

Mikey Speeds I guess when you lock or unlock the car the flashing headlights are enough to trigger them and gives you a little extra light for a few seconds... Mine do not do that but maybe because they are not hooked up all of the way with the orange wire... I have read that others have the same thing happen to them with the light because they had a battery that was going bad... Because we have them mounted so low... on full power they may not be super blinding at night until you hit someone at the right angle on a hill...

I e-mailed Mike at Philips and he is sending me the new updated Module. What I have is only V1.0. The new one has an added blue wire to it to hook it directly to a fuse box if they flicker. I probably don't need that blue wire but will be nice to have the latest module. And I will hook up the orange wire once I get the new module. My battery is also fine. I hooked a meter to it and it reads 12.3+ volts with the car off. I have 2 brand new Kia's here and they both read exact the same.

The Philips "brain" box detects changes in the electrical current draw in the car's wiring via the orange wire which then tells the lights to switch to dim mode.
@rkgsd
10 жыл бұрын
The orange wire has to be connected to the hot wire of the parking lights or the turn signal (don't remember what the instructions say).
The 12V sense doesn't draw current it's just a sense line. AND the Philips stuff is LEGAL FMVSS108 compliant, and fully DOT labeled, unlike swag junk from others. Osram also makes good stuff. Extremely bright, good color, good optics, very noticeable as it's purpose DRL.
No actually it is supposed to hook up to the low beam wire for the dimming as per the instructions...
If you didn’t hook up the dimmer, do you think these would work like fog lights for night driving?
@XMSMLL

If you don't hook up the dimmer then they would be on full blast at night and probably piss people off... but yes they would cut some fog... 😎

I wouldn't know I am in Florida... but I would imagine any place that specializes in LED or HID lighting installs...
Why would you want them to be dimmer at night
Just curious if you used your own mounting screws? How much tightening force did you use? My advice for others is be careful when tightening the screws into plastics. They might strip the holes. Also be careful about punching holes for the screws so it's not too wide of a hole. The screws that come in this kit aren't very thick so the threads may not have enough grab area. You might want to consider skipping the screws that come with the lights and use slightly thicker ones from Home Depot or Lowe's.

gm, I'm not sure about the video poster but I was able to get the screws very snug but not rock solid tight to the point where they wouldn't turn anymore. The plastic is just 3mm thick. Not sure if that has something to do with it. The brackets are still solid and don't move though.
@XMSMLL
10 жыл бұрын
That ABS plastic is pretty tough and as long as you don't make the holes too big the supplied screws work fine but I would still use some 3M Tape along with it like I did in the video....
@rkgsd

Thanks. I wound up getting #12 1/2" screws and they tightened beautifully. I used a smaller torched heated drill bit the width of a pencil led to punch the holes on the other light which was small enough to use the supplied screws.

could convince the Govt. to make DRL's required on all new vehicles, we just had a young boy crossing the street in Upped Darby, Pa. and he was run over by a driver with a black car and no lights at all turned on, the boy was banged up pretty good but he said that he. Did not see the vehicle st all. Also do you have any videos of F-1 type Red fog lights that are installed in the rear of the car or truck for use in fog and inclement weather, this is something else that should be required., Thanks
I had these fitted by a so called auto professional company to my 2010 KIA sorento. However they tend to turn off when the cars slows down (braking?) I can see them reflected on the rear of other cars - can you suggest a fix?

Thanks for the reply. These Philips DRL 9's were fitted by an auto- electrician, they are still going off randomly. Apparently its because some Kia and Nissan cars have a smart charger alternator which cuts the charge therefore making the DRL's think the engine has cut out whilst your driving. I am still trying to find a solution to this, if anyone has any ideas please comment below?
Around 5000K, they are Philips Lumileds, the best LED made. the 4 LED is like $79 Amazon with everything ya need to install, I used 3M tape molding outdoor super stick stuff 3M also on Amazon
The instructions with LED 4 have it wired to battery always hot. 3rd wire sense for headlight ckt on or off. But it turns off when key is OFF, even though always connected to battery hot always! It has to use voltage changes into controller module at battery terminals between alternator volts 13.5 or static battery 12.4 There is no other connections. Slick stuff work great Great color and brightness well made product from Philips
could you tell me how long the lights are? i can't seem to find their dimensions anywhere online. I want to know if they will fit where I want them on my car before buying.
