I am from the Philippines and I commend you Lee for unearthing what's wrong with most people here. To this day, in spite of all the information about what US does abroad, in spite of American atrocities in our own history (Balangiga to name just one example) people here still think Uncle Sam is our big brother, in spite of the US constantly inciting tensions in the SCS, our mindset is, they're looking out for our best interest. Harris was just here stoking tensions. On the other hand, China has existed in Asia for millenniums and never has been a threat to its neighbors, in fact over the centuries many Chinese have peacefully assimilated in other Asian countries, Philippines being one of them, and they had been productive and active contributors to the region's growth. Then the Americans declared they were a threat, and these guys you interviewed agreed China is a bully. It was the Americans who colonized us, NOT China!!!! Go figure.

Regarding the disputed Islands. This goes far beyond sovereignty issue. China is surrounded by 300 US military bases. You don't need to be a military expert to understand that China need to scatter most of its naval assets to limit damage in case of US first strike. China just can't keep all its 500 naval vessels in its 12 nautical miles. So to be able to scatter its navy, China need offshore bases

In fact South China Sea is an important sea route for China, Japan and Korea, thus with US military navigating frequently, making a big threat to China. Thus current Chinese naval base there will restrict US hostile acts very much.

It is like weighing where the Philippines' position is, and no matter which side the Filipinos choose, they will scrutinize. They even make an effort to be in the middle, but the content creator concluded that Filipinos are unquestionably on the side of the United States due to the country's influence on culture, food, and language. I really like Filipino, most of them are super friendly and helpful. I like this country full of beautiful nature place .And I also feel the big American influence in this land , some political and law system here was deeply influenced by US but not really efficient now. Philippines has own great culture ,but seems covered by the multi influence from different countries. Philippines is a mix blood country ,maybe it’s also a special point of here . From Du30 to now Marcos government they are finding a balance between China and US which I think is more wise way to gain more benefit into develop Philippines. I can see big potential of this country if has better infrastructure, lower electricity price ,more industrialization. Because the people here are really skilled and pious people , u can see how many oversea Filipino in the world , if their motherland can provide the same opportunities ,they will contribute to their own country more and no need live so far from their family.

Most Filipinos aspire to migrate to the USA. Still the one country they look up to. With migration, it is not uncommon for most Filipinos to think of America as a second home or the home that they could like to immigrate to. This country also put to the vote many years ago to be part of the USA. This outlook has a long history of paternalism since WWII; their beliefs and of America's benevolence are unshakeable. So, it did not surprise me to hear their imbalanced or negative perceptions about China in contrast with the Vietnamese you interviewed.

Most Filipinos know little about their history and its relation to China. Muslims in Sulu, southern Philippines know better. Filipinos raise children feed them, keep them healthy, put them through grade school, hi-school, college which is costly, then they become nurses, doctors, engineers, lawyer, etc. Then America would pirate them by attracting them with world’s reserve currency, the US $, which they just print and print. @@AA-ge4uj No, the Phillipines wouldn't be a province of China. Look at all the central Asian nations. Have any of them given up and inch of sovereign soil to China? Not one bit. The South East Asian countries don't consider themselves to be provinces of China either. Now look at the US' gains from the Spanish-American war. They consider Guam as a territory of the US. They also count Puerto Rico as a quasi US state. What does the US consider the Phillipines to be then? And furthermore, the US who builds military bases in all of the colonies they acquired from Spain. Even Cuba still retains and American military base while they remain under US sanctions. The Filipino people have been tricked. They believe their large nearby neighbor to be the monster, when in fact the real monster who enslaves them pretends to be a friend. You should have interviewed more people and you may just stumble on a few that have a very different viewpoint than most. IF most Filipinos seem to have a largely negative view of China then blame it on America's overwhelming Soft Power (language, culture and Hollywood) which has a large influence on the Filipino psyche. This is something China must improve on. Suffice to say that a sizable number of Filipinos like myself have come to realise that America is a hypocrite (when it comes to human rights, democracy and freedom) and very interventionist.

Three things American influence the world: 1, road traffic light red, yellow and green. 2, malls and stores than street store, 3, foods sit on table everyday like salt, pepper, ketchup and drink. 4, …, …, 5, continue influences to the world like American sport basketball (NBA), baseball (MLB), football (NFL) It’s about clothes and shoes that people in world wear everyday like sneakers, jeans and t-shirts as jobs that they have them in stores that affordable made in China. In example, When I was teen in 1980s in Los Angeles, California, I just grab t-shirt in jean and sneaker shoes with mitts and ball to meet my friends waited outside, we then walked to the baseball field to play throw and catch, also other kids saw they came to join. We all had fun playing throw, hit and catch like baseball practice after school. After we played we walked to the 7-11 store for soft drink, Doritos and potato chips, then we said good bye and good night and play again tomorrow night afternoon. I don’t know those kids that I used to play baseball and basketball with them their future as today they maybe open store business or baseball and basketball league teams coaches or something else. That’s all about job people around the world run business like sports clothes store, sneaker became very popular street street shoes and work shoes to keep healthy. That’s what made in China is affordable to keep business continue run today. To product items is to build factories and need people to do the jobs. Same as to sell items is to hire people to build buildings to store items and people to sell them. That’s what job is all about were good influenced things by American continues today and tomorrow. The negative things influenced by American is that political like pelosi and pompoe war in their head like Ukraine today. And war in history very recently Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Korea in Cold War still. Ukrainian Armed Force and zelenskyy thanks to nato and American’s high technical weapons. But people can see beautiful buildings for business like clothes and foods stores destroyed into ash. In1980s, I heard negative things about China from teachers and I didn’t understand communist until college in 1990s. I heard from people say that China bans foreigners items, but I didn’t realize I wore clothes in 1970s and 1980s were made in China. In 1990s, I tried to follow my friend’s influence buy American tools with life warranty, but I had no place to keep tools while living in dormitory. When I need quick tools only available were China made everywhere and affordable, I just can’t wait until friends get home from thanksgiving vacation to use my America made tools. I need to fix quickly my car and drive to work on same day. In 1995s, I heard China improved and open more for foreigners business in and I saw a lot new buildings built in America and new residents in 1991s. And more job hired and more immigrant people grow culture foods store and restaurants. That’s what with China’s products the world can have a job. Politicians in Washington DC and Europe don’t want China became number 1 economic. I don’t think they can prevent China because the world needs job. Economic became deficiency in first world countries. That’s all about business people need the job.

My first visit to Philippines was 1959 . I was surprised to find the country was very much influenced by American culturally and economically. When I watched their tv or radio, you may be forgiven to think you are in America, their accent and style etc. Too Americanised and losing their own identity and culture, pity really! I must add also Philippines in the 40's and 50's Philippines was much more advanced and economy was greater than most of her peers in S.E. Asia including Singapore! How fortune changed since then. Today, millions of Filippino have to work abroad in menial jobs to support their family at home! Hope the new President and his government can make his country strong and wealthy again.

it is NOT the president nor a government that can change the plight of us filipinos. Our thinking, views and conduct must change before we move forward like the others. For example in agriculture, the government has been pushing for a modernized agriculture but not doing enough and several interest groups don't support it fearing it destroys the nature, fear if GMO's and fear that many may loose jobs if replaced by modern machines. Several Filipino farmers are still reluctant to change. Their usual reason is they fear it because they don't know. They are afraid of risks too. If someone innovated and succeded, they hate that person and plot his downfall.

We might be a developing country. We ended up in our situation because we enjoy our freedom. To much freedom can really lead to slow growth. On the other side, your side. I don't think I can live, being treated like a slave. Feed with info that I should only know. Censored, when I want to express my opinion. And look down on people because they are poor. That's a very sad mindset to have. And also, acting arrogant, when in a different land, because of lack of knowledge about other cultures. And that's a dirty work of a communist country.

How come the US have not built any infrastructure in the Philippine or have not helped the Philippine to become a developed country or developing country in the past decades, one serious question is " can the Philippines be able to see who is the real American to them? " The US have been used and using the Philippine as a pivot point in the pacific and south east Asia Pacific strategy, in order to make a move it's geographic military, and economical dominant. If you ask me that : Does the US love the Philippines? And it really want to help the Philippines out of poverty to become an independent , rich and powerful country in the region? , my answer is : i can assure you that 1000% big No, No.the Philippines must do more research and deep thinking to see through the US. It have been introduced drugs, weapons, sex life, and all the religions to brain wash the peoples 's mind . So , the Philippines only see the US as their God. It is sad.

I would believe, collectively, more are in favour of US many years back, so from the facts you see now, this has gradually changed. For this, we have Rodrigo Duterte to thank in wakening up the fact that Philippines was dictated by the Western power at the expense of its own dignity and interest. Philippines should be smart and not becoming another Ukraine for proxy flash point.

@@BreakingTheMatrix-cc1ct You are a man full of political wisdom. Unfortunately, few Filipinos know this truth. The Huangyan Island incident in 2016 was very dangerous, with big fish fighting and small fish suffering. The Philippines cannot escape geopolitical factors in the future. The Philippines is close to the United States. In the future, if the conflict occurs, the PLA will surely land in the Philippines and expel the US troops in the conflict. The Philippines will certainly help the US military. If the Philippines supports China, American troops will be expelled from the South China Sea. However, this is based on the premise that China has the military force to protect the political stability of the Philippines and cannot be confused by the Central Intelligence Agency. Obviously, China does not have such strength at this time. Now all ASEAN countries without US troops have turned to China. Except the Philippines, the Philippines cannot conduct independent diplomacy now. Frankly speaking, the Philippines is still a colony of the United States. The world of friendship and cooperation between China and the United States is beautiful. However, if there is a conflict between China and the United States, the later it is, the more in the interests of the Philippines. China will become stronger and stronger, and then the Philippines will embrace China like ASEAN. Drive American troops out of the South China Sea. Asia will always be peaceful. When the Philippines cooperates with China, China will also develop the Philippine economy for its own benefit. The Filipino people will become rich.

I recall Duterte' taking a strong stance against drugs in your country...he explained to anyone who would listen that by sending out hundreds of thousands of young Filipino's to work all over the world, , having them send $$$ back home it was a form of a safety net for you people back home. He did not want his young polluted by drugs, 90% of them coming from your great friends in China. If you practiced a bit of birth control and slowed your rate of birth it might do your country wonders. Why breed if you can not feed them? Maybe adopt a two kid per family planning for 10-15 years, just sayin'.

I grew up and studied in the Philippines, one thing the new government shall do is to revise their history books about America and include all the USA atrocities committed against the world otherwise the next generations will never know the truth and still think Uncle Sam is doing positive things… the other thing is, people of my generation are so Americanised because of being brainwashed by the Americans about having a good future in the USA. Luckily my family didn’t bought into that CRAP. Just compare New York’s Train stations with any Train stations of China, you will know right away how safe, progressive and what the government does for the people. It so sad to know that many Filipinos still want to work their and get their long waited green card despite of Racism in the USA, many jobless and many selling the streets in tents or in their cars for many many years… and you don’t see that in China. People all have their own homes in China. The China government do things to benefit their people and unlike the USA for the few Mega rich people controlling and influencing the Country and World order. Thank you for the interviews and take care Lee!

Nahh too much of a work, Filipinos just wants to live the moment and present, just enjoy life why worry about those past stuff like who's who on History books etc. life is too short not to enjoy it, Some other people say it's shallow but yeah maybe it is but Filipinos are one of the happiest people in the world.

the Philippines is pretty much brainwashed by the Americans because of hollywood and mass media, i'm a filipino and we grew up with that kind of thinking even in school, what it is being thought here at least in my childhood is the US is the savior of the phillipines during world war II. believe it or not douglas mcarthur, that warmongrel is considered a hero and his " i shall return" statement is a very popular phrase here lol i remember clapping and shouting and the rest of my schoolmates when we viewed a documentary of him lol but the irony is the US invested more on china and its former enemy Japan after world war II despite being the philippines a very close ally for decades. they never invest in infrustructures, no anything! all they give are "aids" and secondhand old weapons equipment.

BTW, Chinese took over Scarborough Shoal, which is within the Philippines Exclusive Economic Zone. VERRRRY far away from Hainan. What used to be a fishing area for civilian fishing boats is now occupied by Chinese Coast Guard and 50 large Chinese trawlers.

Even if they were educated enough to care about global matters, the news here is filtered & sanitized according to what the current government stance. Most are too busy getting drunk & making illegitimate babies.
