It’s crazy how the eagles blew out the lions last year. I think this game shows growth that the lions have improved against a really good Philly team!

I mean, the game didn't really feel close after the 1st. The Eagles were up by 3 scores for a while and were still up by 2 scores with 4 minutes left in the 4th. Detroit got some yards/pts in garbage time and made it look alot closer than it was, but even at the end the Eagles were in control until the last play. The Lions got a hell of an OLine and RB, but Goff is Goff.

@ju Facts I'm an Eagles Fan, and we improved so much from last season, I thought we'd walk Detroit but the Lions also got a lot better. I would be extremely Surprised if the Lions don't win at the very least 7 Games this season.

Lions definitely improved, they’re not a team of losers as many think. It’s the owners for the Lions that hurt them. As for the Eagles they definitely got better too, however Jon Gannon, the defensive coordinator, not Hurts, is the largest liability for that team and why the Lions came back. It was never gonna be the blowout of their last meeting but maybe 38 - 21

This team somehow managed to put up 35 and almost win, against a good team just because they won’t give up. I’m not a lions fan, but I’m a lions fan. I hope they have a great season, they deserve one. Edit- Also loved the play calling here. Aside from that one Goff interception that may or may not have been his fault, I thought everything was brilliantly executed. They looked promising, especially for having a really bad defense.

As a Eagles fan, NO ONE should get points for playing their butt’s off. It is a given in any sport and if you don’t give a maximum effort, win or lose, you don’t deserve to be on any field, court or ice rink. The fact that the Lions are being congratulated for their great effort shows how low they’ve been. @mathewkeen2356 Жыл бұрын

That 3rd and 5 throw to Davonta Smith killed me. That was a perfectly thrown ball, perfect anticipation, perfect recognition. The Eagles needed that play to be caught. The biggest thing holding Hurts back was anticipation. So what happens? On the first play of the year where he gets to attempt it he hits his wr in the back. What a nightmare for a young kid. That means getting Mossed, pick six, wasted play and turn over on downs. Thank God Jalen Hurts is Jalen Hurts and didn't lose his confidence in the anticipatory pass. Just Davonta Smith. He only got 2 more targets for 0 catches the rest of the entire pass happy game. I don't blame Hurts tho. That play was egregious on so many levels on Smith's part. It was 3rd and 5 on Detroit's 41. First down was the 35ish. Smith had no awareness of the sticks. He blew past the 35 & then the 30. He was still running full speed and showed no sign of turning around when the ball hit him in the back at the 28. Also on the play. When the defender saw the ball thrown. He stopped and came back for it trying to get a pick. Smith didn't pick up a damn clue. He just kept going forward. If it wasn't for Hurt's accuracy on that play, putting the ball right between Smith's numbers & forcing the defender to come right through him for a chance of an int, the guy would have had an uncontested pick Six. I love Davonta Smith. I believe he's the best route runner in the NFL. And up to about 13 hours ago. I was arguing that he was the clear cut #1 on the Eagles. That's not to say I demoted him. It's just that AJ Brown showed me something that no one has mentioned since the Eagles acquired him. And that's his football IQ. The way he finds holes in defenses instead of just running his route like a robot even if its covered. Like how he plays to the sticks. Or how he will adjust his speed to the route instead of getting there to early or causing an over throw. He did that before the half. He was about to put a monster lead on his guy until he noticed that if he kept up that speed he would over run Hurts ball by an easy 10 yards. Most players would either run without thinking and have to come back to the ball & play defense or wait for the ball & play 50/50. Instead he subtlety slowed down his route to meet Jalens ball in stride at the exact spot it was gonna fall. He wasn't worried about letting the DB get closer bc he wasn't gonna show his hand. Literally. He didn't look around or stick his hands out until the ball was helmet high. Simple the DB didn't have a chance. So no I'm not demoting Davonta, I'm just promoting AJ. Smith had a bad game I don't really fault him tho. The team needs time to gel. It's better he gets comfortable and finds a rhythm with the new players early in the season. If they don't they may have a hard time finding 1 later. Him and Davonta don't need that. Theyre already good and will have no problem bouncing back.

The coach deserves a large bit of the blame. People forgot the Eagles had a lot of short , contactless practices. The Eagles were beat at the line of scrimmage, couldn't tackle, fight off blocks on defense, and were gassed on both sides of line by the fourth Quarter. The Lions pass rush was on Hurts immediately in the fourth Quarter because the offensive line was gassed. You can't have soft contactless practices and think you're going to just show up and tackle well, or block , get off blocks and play a full 60 minutes game. The coach wanted soft practices to assure starters weren't lost in practice, but the trade off is a team that can't tackle or fight through blocks, and doesn't have the stamina to play a whole game.

This was a good game. Both Philly and Detroit looked good. I had a feeling that this game was going to be telling for both teams; and considering how the game went, I think both teams have bright futures on both sides of the ball. Detroit, while they lost, have nothing to be ashamed about. They put up 35 points on the Eagles, that's no small feat. Jamaal Williams and D'Andre Swift are poised to be a solid running back duo like they were last year. In the air, Amon-Ra St. Brown was solid. He'll be a main piece on this Lions squad going forward. Also, DJ Chark wasn't bad either. Give me more of him. Also, looking forward to seeing more of TJ Hockenson, a solid TE if you ask me. Even Goff wasn't the worst today, good to see that he's not totally awful. Believe me, the Lions will learn from this and come back stronger. The Eagles looked good today as well. The running game should be solid this year with Sanders, Gainwell and Scott. I would've liked to see Jalen Hurts get a passing TD but he showed that you don't necessarily have to just do it with your arms; sometimes you have to do it with your legs. But in the air, AJ Brown looked good today. He'll definitely be a good piece for the Eagles squad going forward. Next week, both teams have good games. The Eagles match up against a Vikings team that had their way with a Packers team that's trying to figure out what to do post-Davantae Adams. Both teams have solid running attacks and are good in the air as well. That should be a good, coin-flip kind of game. The Lions meanwhile match up with a Commanders team that held off a Jaguars team without something to prove. This one will be competitive and perhaps the Lions come out on top but we'll have to see. Good stuff from both teams, we'll have to see how they fare the rest of the year.
