HOLY CRAP!!!! How have I missed this?? And I just thought that Phil was Bon Jovi’s “guitar player”. He’s a monster! I’ll be hard pressed to find a more dynamic and virtuoso performance of this, my favorite Purple song on You Tube.

He's a studio ace from way back - played on a lot of songs.

This guy is amazing. He is playing the keyboard parts on the guitar at the same time as the guitar parts,,,and doing the Harmony's. Very impressed!!

Pbil X is one of the greatest guitarists in the world!!! Great rock band as well!!!

Playing Purple stuff like this without a keyboard player just shows what a higher musical and creative level Phil X and his power trio are at. Completely amazing. I'm jealous to the audience back then who got to see them live.

The "Non musician" in the band rocks big time! There's never enough credit for the amazing drummer who is so 'insrumental" in making this amazing 3 piece work so well! You guys all rock! Creme of the crop of professional musicians here! Killer Guitar and Bass work!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! He's a local boy from where I live. I always say he's got "L.A. Chops". I don't know where a Toronto boy gets chops like that! I always picture in L.A. all the guitar monsters know each other and can get jam it out. Phil lives here! We don't have much opportunity for crazy talented guitarists to do this. How did he get so good?! Same with Pete Thorn! My co-worker is from the same circle as Phil. They know the same people in the music scene here. Most, save for Phil, never made it and have regular jobs. He just finally got to meet Phil after Phil put on a little private small show at a music store owned by somebody the both are friends with here 2 weeks ago. Co-worker confirmed that he's just the nicest most down to earth guy. Says he's talking to him, chewing the fat, as 2 regular guys...it then hit my co-worker (who also plays guitar for a long time), "Holy Crap! I'm chatting with a guy who is like the Canadian EVH or Canadian Randy Rhoads, etc, and he's just so normal!" AMAZING!!!

Phil is a sensational guitarist, and a damn good vocalist to boot, so I don't think he's underrated at all. But tell me, how highly rated do you think anyone (not just Phil) should be when they're known for playing other people's classics? Don't lose sight of the fact that we''re talking about music that's been around for 40+ years and covered many times over.

That was a fist full of bad ass shoved right down the ol snout!! Holy shit that was incredible!! A true guitarist's guitarist! Great line up! All hitting it spot on!!

Phil, Kevin and Paul giving Rock music that much needed boost. Great rendition.

I have been aspiring to be able to play live like that for 30 years, man that was incredible.

Damn!! I finally got to see Deep Purple in 1985 (I was 25 at the time) and this took me back to the best concert I’d seen!! They opened with Highway Star and for this young woman in a tiny town in Texas (Odessa), I was in Heaven again!! Phil you nailed it and thanks for posting this video and sharing your intense talent with us!! You definitely ROCK!!!

@@ronsperski7132 YEP did that with ZEPPELIN live at Maddison Square garden and played Whole Lotta Love over and over for about 3 hours then moved on to Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc... haha

Had not seen Phil X before, shame on me!! This guy plays ridiculously well, man, the way he covers both the keyboard and the guitar solos in just insane. Apart from being Bon Jovi's guitar, I've seen has also collaborated with quite a lot other people, but I would really like to see him develop a solo project. Anyways, great stuff🤘🤘

Iv always thought the guitar solo sucks even tho the song itself is awesome.

That was incredible, vocals were awesome and some sick solos. It's not often you see someone so at home with a guitar as Phil X!
