PGA Tour... please bring back a show similar to this. The player pool is ridiculously deep to pick and match up from. Even if you didn’t get A list players you could have awesome matchups. Also, there are incredible golf courses out there to showcase and bring attention to. This show has to come back

Unfortunately I think the main part of the charm and appeal is the class and simplicity, very little advertising or promotional stuff going on, the crowds are smaller and more respectable and the whole thing is just toned down in general. Modern golf wouldn't suit this format at all unless it was done by a private enthusiast for a KZread channel, or something similar, as the focus needs to be on the passion for golf which modern day companies will ignore in favour of making a few extra pounds. I agree that if someone could capture the essence of this fantastic program it would be worth televising without a doubt, however, I think, in an effort to try to be "cool" or profitable the magic would be lost.

We really appreciate these oldies but goodies. Phil n Els are both many years older than me but I love these videos👍👍👍
Good Lord do I ever miss the 90's 😭
Didn’t think this would hold my attention but I watched every stroke. Great programming. Wish they still did these. Els remarkable in trouble.
This so much better than watching professional golfers play video games. Great content PGA tour.
Yes keep releasing these! Love them

My favourite show growing up ,I remember mum saying go to bed as it was televised late at night in New Zealand, that was in the early 60s,a great era to live in for sure ❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍
Ernie explaining the LBW law was a particular highlight.
This video is so wholesome. I miss the 90s
That shot at 19:00, absolutely beautiful

The flight on that ball was absolutely disgusting, that balloon shot to have it land just soft enough... man. only Phil can do that.
Weird seeing guys play without hats lol And Ernie, that swing, gold-
Young Ernie & Phil talking cricket, just awesome.
Can we bring this back please!!!

Please upload Raymond Floyd vs Fred Couples playing at the Casa De Campo (teeth of the dog) in Dominican Republic back in 1994.
Wow - never realized Ernie was so much longer than Mickelson, off the tee. On most of the drives he seemed to be 70 or even 80 yards past Mickelson.
It's always great to run across one of these matches!
Thanks a lot and best regards from Tenerife.
Ernie...one of the greatest swings ever. Love his game so much. If he had played in a different time than Tiger’s prime, he’d have 8+ majors.

Same could be said for Phil too- just plain bad luck of running mostly parallel with Tiger’s career timeline. Not many windows of opportunity during Tiger’s utter dominance.
Thanks for the great content PGA Tour KZread! There’s a Shells match between Phil and Tom Lehman a few years after this. It would be great to watch that one if you can post it up. Love the old footage of Phil’s smooth swing before he became obsessed with distance.
Love these!!!
Ive played this course haha, surprised they didnt use Seve's course Buenovista in the north of the island, much more spectacular! I love these shows, Shell should bring them back!
Keep them coming
Love the vintage !
I love watching golf with my ads thanks pga tour
Golf and a history lesson, always loved these especially the old bobby jones ones
Please upload more of these! Watched all 3 of them today and was disappointed to see there aren't any more.
They most definitely need to bring these back
ABC’s Wide World of Sports (one of the few sports anthology series *more* famous than Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf) brought back the series in 1994, and it was later continued by the Comcast-owned Golf Channel in the late 90s and early 2000s. Golf Channel also reaired some of the ABC episodes from the mid 90s in the early 2000s, which they redid with their own graphics. This is an episode that wasn’t reaired later on the Golf Channel - or, if it was, then this is the unedited ABC copy, as it uses ABC’s graphics from the mid-1990s.

Made me laugh when the presenter forgot Ernie Els name and just called him thingy 😂
Phil's jabby putting was a trainwreck in this match, as it tends to be more often than not IMO. It's palpable how much of a struggle he was having that day, while Ernie just played his game and took what came to him. Oh, how the "Wonderful World of Golf" connotes so much pain and pleasure all wrapped up in one. Not so "wonderful" on this windy day. But great show, nonetheless! Love all of these episodes.
Golf Del Sur is a great course. Was the first golf course I ever played overseas on a golfing holiday.

Hopefully we'll get to see Phil and Ernie battle it out on the back nine on Sunday on the Champions Tour.
the face for ernie els on the scorecard kills me. They couldn't have chosen a better picture Lmao
Interesting watching this footage from '95 and realizing Tiger wins the Masters two years later. Then in 2000, Ernie finishes second in 3 majors behind Tiger.

The sad part is Ernie already won the u.s. open at this point and Phil still doesn't have one.
Awesome stuff! Can we get the Phil vs David Toms match next?
Phil’s hair never fails😂
Yes love to see Ernie 🇿🇦
@pgatour why does FedEx not have these after the cup?
46:36 what a shot
crazy to think sam snead versus jack nick prize pool was $2000 for 1st and $1000 for 2nd in 1963
If only Tiger and Vijay could have been on here together. Just to have Tiger Woods on the show one time would have been great.
Lovely to watch :) thank you pga
What putter is Phil using here?
buenas la verdad muy bueno video me encanto espero el siguiente éxito me despido les dejo cariños agradecido
More please.
Nice trophy. A brand new Rolex and 100.000 cash? Wow nice
Phil vs Ernie 1995 total $150,000 prize. Phil vs Tiger 2018 9 million to the winner.

@@taimaster612 23 years difference that I forgot tiger was the one that brought such attention to this great game? I don't think I said that anywhere so how did I forget? I just pointed out athletes in general are getting paid ridiculous amounts of money. And just the drastic change in pay in general even if you account for all factors.
Classic Phil. Whoa ball stop gosh darn it
Driver heads were so small. I feel like we are at an advantage now a days with these oversized and forgiving heads.
46:36 best shot of the round
This gave me a longing for a better life.

@catuniverse4163

@W Jack You're right about club angles but what you're saying isn't valid at this stage of golf progression. The Iron angles were standardized in late 1990's and have stayed static since then. The significant changes date back to the 60s far before a tournament like this. 1995 9 iron is 41 degrees 2020 41, 5 iron also the same. It's partially about the club face surface and much more about club head speed training. If you see Daly hit the ball at this time or earlier his yardage will match today's distances. There is an exhibition match between Daly and Couples recently posted on this channel hes 2 clubs less on every shot and still out distancing Couples. he was an anomaly in swinging so fast but it has become the norm today. For every club higher you can hit, your angle of approach gets steeper and your odds of greens hit accurately goes up, forces the pros to train that way to beat the field. I would argue the single most impactful change to the sport to create this evolution is simple, Tiger, he proved this advantage wins tournaments.
Way too many ads in this video
Damn, Phil with 36 putts. Looking like me out there.
That Rolex was a GMT Master II ref 16710 Coke bezel. That reference goes for around $10-20k today depending on condition. That specific watch, the actual one given to the winner, is probably worth more than the total prize pool of this match adjusting for inflation assuming it's providence can be demonstrated.
Those greens probably had a ton of grain in them, Phil really struggled. Ernie being from south Africa would definitely had been less putt off by the grainy greens
Gosh darn gee wiz :3
19:08 I watched this like 12 times
Everyone talking about bringing these matches back. These guys don't get out of bed unless they are getting paid 100K now nevermind appearing on a TV show. Tiger vs Phil? That will cost you 10 million.
I love Phil's putter
Gosh darn it Phil...
Theyre both young fresh faced kids here haha, 28 years ago wow. That prize money was comical lol.
Maybe LIV will put something like this on!

Ringing a bell on the golf course to let the group behind hit their tee shots, I thought Golf was supposed to be a quiet walk in the park interrupted by a little white ball. It can’t be quiet if your ringing a bell. Whoever thought that up, you need to remove it from the course. Use binoculars or a range finders. Have spotters to help with greens being cleared, then relay it to the tee box with radio, telephone or some message system, not a bell. They should be fired whoever thought of it.
