not my COVID puppy being the pickiest eater for the first 2 years of her life and having crippling anxiety lol. then rescuing an adult COVID puppy who's also needy and picky... Really felt like he was speaking for my sweet COVID rescues and for me. All of us are doing alright now, but the three of us had a rough couple years.

Pissed off, Confused and ....Grateful 🙏

the amount of emotions he made me feel in under 2 minutes… wow

I too have had that feeling =)

this reminds me so much of my dog that passed last September. she would like to go on hunger strikes, as we called them, and the line about hand feeding individual pieces of kibble hit hard. miss her all the time. I hope she's somewhere she can eat as many cheez-its and apple slices as she wants, as she was always willing to break her strike for those.

Sometimes they just get sore tummies and need a couple of days to settle them. And sometimes they know you'll panic and give them yummy treats if they turn their noses up at their regular food. Dogs can be very manipulative.

Goddamn it, Phil, this made me stand up and feed my puppy Cookies again!!

He's the poetry imposter he ain't the real deal how the hell would he know what proper poets feel Where's the death and suffering the misery and greiving What kind of light weight light verse is this imposter reading? A calamitous lack of alliteration he writes disposable prose It's threadbare shallow and painfully obvious he's the Emperors new clothes and the most heinous of all his crimes is writing poetry that rhymes He knows all about death and he's no stranger to the dark He doesn't like to show them but the scars have left their mark He doesn't like to let on but he knows just how it feels when the black dog comes snap snapping at his heels He's learned to recognise it and contain the breaking strain now the black dog's tightly muzzled on an even tighter chain He thinks he's oh so clever and so wonderfully witty.... you know anger is an energy more productive than self pity Our world is on it's death bed and he gives us twee light verse It's true but please for just a few short minutes let's not make things any worse Covid puppies .......REALLY??????? Is this the best you can do?????? What kind of schmaltz is this????? Wake up and smell the doggerel Get real

I love your poem and agree with all your thoughts except for the bit about rhyming poetry being a heinous crime .. why is that?. A poem that rhymes is very difficult to write and if constructed correctly without appearing forced is beautiful - more so than prose poetry which oftentimes is just angst filled warblings imo❤️ or did I miss the point?

@@christhepostmanpoet6618 got it ! You are a “proper poet “- beautiful poem - not only did I see the little black dog snapping and snarling literally it also reminded me of a very black hole I once fell into and remained there for quite some time in the fetal position rocking !!!!

Ugh. Pets are such a burden.

Anthropomorphising dogs like this is daft. There's really no need to project your insecurities onto your innocent little canine companions. You cause these problems by doing so.
