meh. As a poker fan of many decades I disagree. Helmuth has definitely been one of the top poker brats but he was never outright attacking people on a personal level the way this no-name Persson guy did. Right? What an absolute brat-child Phil is. Then, when he feels like he's losing face or he's getting it worse than he's giving, he calls for Daddy to intervene and threatens to quit over and over, citing his credentials like a crutch (prob just leveraging the fact that the other guy has less experience in that exact circumstance... basically using an interaction with a third party to try and make Persson less comfortable). AND talk about a narcissist who's unaware of what's going on... I mean, WHAT!? I've seen Phil lose all touch with reality as he dives into trying to get the best of someone. He's like the guy in 'KZread comments' who argues for a 200 response thread on behalf of his exalted ego.

Maybe it has less to do with what these individuals achieved and more to do with how they behave and treat others. As a little kid, watching John McEnroe play tennis but also behave like an entitled brat did not stop me enjoying how he played and mentally how fired up he would become against someone as ice cool as Bjorn Borg. I still respected how talented he was despite the character flaw. I remember watching live on tv at Australian Open and he got what he deserved when he was defaulted to lose the match. My admiration for the competitor in him still outweighed how much I disliked his out of line way he would speak to umpires. Phil at poker is no John McEnroe for me to admire. The cringe worthy way he acts outweighs any admiration for the skill he has in poker. But he is still entertaining to watch. Eric is actually the Johnny McEnroe in this heads up as I can still admire the competitor in him and the manner he beat Phil at poker.

My favorite exchange starts at 12:37 with Phil saying "I'm gonna tell you one thing"... as though he already hasn't told him a hundred things. Then he says "if you'll listen to me.... You're not gonna listen to me, I won't say it....." Then proceeds to immediately tell him the thing anyway. The amount of ridiculous that Phil Hellmuth brings to poker is both a treasure and a curse.
