Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. The song, In Too Deep, is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight, Land of Confusion, and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

I was a kid in the 80s and me and all of my friends thought that this kind of horrific stuff was the death of pop music. And just look at Collins. Compare him to James Brown or 1968 Elvis or 1967 Morrison or 1975 Bowie to see how he had the 'style' of a suburban bank clerk and the performance capability and presence of a slug.

one of Phil collins BEST songs.....love the beat, the melody and everything!!!! LOVE IT 🎉🎊
I am a semi professional music producer, and Phil Collins totally pioneered two things, in my personal opinion: 1) Voice filters and echo 2) Beat compression I know he wasn't the first to do these things, but he WAS one of the first to actually put it on the map. Look how far those two aspects have come over the years.... I believe he is a HUGE reason behind it! This song specifically, listen to it on a killer sound system. It sounds and feels like a literal vacuum, with all of its compression!

Collins wrote “Sussudio” the way he wrote a lot of his songs by playing around with a drum machine, coming up with an idea, and then writing to that idea. In this case, Collins was improvising, coming up with melodic ideas by singing nonsense words over his own beat. This is also how a lot of rappers write these days. Collins came up with the “Sussudio” hook, thinking he’d later go back and replace that non-word with something that meant something. But he couldn’t think of anything else that fit the track as well, so he kept the gibberish, and he worked around it.

This era was Real Music! Love the 80's. I'm blessed to have lived it!
I love this song. Brutal Phil Collins and his entire musical band. 😍🤩🥳😎😸💖👏🕺🔥✨🎊🔊🎶
My adoptive mom played them growing up i was raised on earth wind and fire, the temptations, the supremes, sade, basia and I'm still listening to all of them in 2024. They don't make music like they used to 😭🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🔥🔥🔥🔥

The most 80's sounding song!
Phil Collins is absolutely phenomenal. I am sorry to hear that he is not well. Praying for him as well as his family.

Pure 80’s. I wanna walk into a pub and see this kind of jam! This will be playing at my wedding and I can’t wait!
YOSHI! WALKOFF!
I love this video.
So bittersweet, so amazing 😻 my dad had his video album, & this song was released the year I was born and I have only just realised how good my dads taste in music was 😅I can’t stop playing! any one else think we were much more in harmony with each other back then? What’s happened to the world? What’s happened to music 🥹
Thirty years later this Song is still good.

Great music isn't losing quality during time. Look for Vivaldi or Beethoven, still great music after hundreds years.
You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
