A BIG female jumping spider I've been wanting to find for a while! Beautiful spider - she seems to blend in well with the lichen?

Thomas, you are an inspiration to so many, a trip to the out of doors, finding the beauty of our Earth's tiniest majority. Love the wind, birds calls, and especially the oh so cute face of this adorable fluffy nervous nellie teeny tiny harmless jumping spider.

I tried talking to one once... you know, moving my hand/arms like they do... the spider was startled at first and then understood I was speaking gibberish... Tried several times later on with other jumping spiders but never got the same result again...

Phidippus otiosus is a species of jumping spider that is found in southeastern North America. It is primarily a tree-living species. Females reach a body length of about 16 mm. Its iridescent chelicerae can range in color from purple to green.

Great content as always. Would it be too much asking you to do a video on how you maximize depth of field in nature macro photography? I'm experimenting with it myself these days and that's the biggest problem I face. Stopping down to the edge of diffraction and keeping planes as parallel as possibile doesn't seem to be enough and most of the time I'd still like to have more DOF. I guess I could stack but I hate the process involved and with moving subject it's really impossibile. Thanks and have a nice day ;)

Amazing!! So these furry jumpers don't bite then?
@Raisopod
5 жыл бұрын
Any spider has the capacity to bite, however most spiders are less inclined to bite than they are to try and run away first. Jumping spiders especially fit that category, the only time I've ever seen a jumper act aggressively with fangs bared is a male P.audax that I provoked too hard into that sort of situation. They're very fast, so they rely on that speed as a first line of defense. You have to really try to get bitten by one of these fellas.

Those aren't fangs, they're called pedipalps. They're like little arms, and I believe that's them tapping the ground or something.
