Wow, he had 7 3-ball counts but he just kept pounding the strike zone. What a performance!
RIP Roy Halladay.... This guy’s last name is on the first ever sports apparel that I have. This man was my role model when I was a kid. This Cy Young winner was my favorite player on my favorite team. This Perfect Game pitcher is one of my favorite players throughout all sports. This video still gets my heart racing, as if I'm hoping he doesn't give up a hit 4 years later. Since I've been alive, he's the best pitcher I've ever seen in a Phillies uniform.

Best pitcher of the 00's. Doc is a legend
We loved watching you, Roy. We miss you.
I read that once he came to Philly, he added that split-changeup to his arsenal and his just started overwhelming hitters all over again. I have to wonder what his career would've been like if he had found that pitch earlier in his career.
@redbearmedia
10 жыл бұрын
If he would of added it in earlier it would of been rougher.. Cause starting out you gotta focus on it and work with it.. After a few years batters would know what was going on. But with going to Philly for 2yrs.. (I think) it would of taken longer to get the focus of the batters.. But that's what I'm thinking..
This man gave me some incredible memories as a Phillies fan. Admired him so much as a kid. Just no words...RIP to a baseball legend
I’m a Yankees fan and through all of my years of watching baseball this is my second favorite team I’ve ever watched play

so thankful I got to experience this game in person with my dad. amazing memory. RIP Roy
Miss you Doc
So sad he passed away. But this special day always makes me smile.
Rest In Peace Doc!!! One of the best pitchers I've ever seen, glad I got to see him pitch against my Marlins multiple times here against Josh Johnson. I loved those duels (specially this one)
R.I.P Roy❤️❤️❤️ From a dedicated Phillies fan- Halladay was my favorite player ever!! He did so much for us. To see him go breaks my heart. Such a good guy doesn’t deserve this. Anyway, rest well in heaven. ❤️❤️❤️❤️👆👆👆
I went to high school with him. He is a legend at Arvada west high school and in Arvada.
Rip to a GOAT 🐐
This is beautiful. So many close plays. A half a foot more one way and it's a hit. Hanley is a half a foot quicker and he gets an infield hit. The ump decides to call a borderline 3-2 pitch a ball and it's gone. This is why baseball is the best sport in the world.
He'd be SO much more remembered if he'd not spent his prime in Toronto. Another guy on my "All-Time favorite" team.
Even Marlins fans tipped a hat that night! #20 Perfect Game Pitched! A Feather not many have perched. PIP MR. Halladay
I remember watching the flyers playoffs and the last 3 outs had a split screen of the phillies and flyers game
We live in eastern PA but since my mother is from Chicago, we used to go quite often to visit. First by train, then prop plane. The FIRST game I ever saw was at Wrigley Field and it was a no hitter by Ferguson Jenkins. The one thing I remember so well was my father (OBM) being so disappointed because HE DID NOT HAVE A SINGLE STRIKE OUT and he only maintained his no hitter because of the MANY great defensive plays. But hey, for my first game not bad seeing a no-hitter.
@chucknight

That's the beauty of baseball! It's well and truly a team sport, especially when we're talking no hitters and perfect games. The pitcher has to be on point for sure, but the rest of the team has to be up to scratch as well.
@lazerlazer

Thanks for responding. I have a short story to tell you. Believe it or not, between the 9th and 10th grades, a recently retired Saint Louis Cardinals pitching coach decided he would spend his time watching a group of kids (over 200) where we lived. It was a much more serious as well as organized ball for "Teeners" and it was called Big Leagues'. He talked to my father because he thought I had a lot of potential. Around this time (of course) I developed a serious phobia of getting hit in the face with the ball off a bat. I guess I was ahead of my time because in just the last thee years, I have seen a ton of MLB pictures drop like a piece of lead after being hit. They can usually shake it off though.
@chucknight
8 жыл бұрын
There's a video somewhere on KZread that's a compilation of people getting hit and it's absolutely terrifying. But thankfully, as you said, most are able to shake it off! That's really cool though! And too bad you developed this phobia...maybe we all could have been watching clips of you on MLB's channel instead haha
Never gets old. Watching this.
Ump did incredibly. Every one of those pitches in this vid were strikes
He threw this on my 14th bday I was so fucken stoked :')
Thank you for all of the memories, Doc!
As a Jays fan I never saw him pitch in person. I wish I would have. As I hear more about him it would have been great to meet him. You'll be missed Roy.
Growing up as a Mets fan, I've always hated the Phillies (especially Utley) but watching Roy Halladay as an 11 year old that season was something really special. Not only was he a great pitcher, he was consistent and very classy. Very similar to the way Tom Seaver and Sandy Koufax was. As much as he dominated the Mets that season, I couldn't complain because he was awesome. I always rooted for Roy. I was very devastated when he passed away.
I watched this game live, lived in Philadelphia all my life, this was my all time favorite era and team. I'm 39
Possibly the most dominant pitcher during his career, just an amazing, amazing pitcher. Even more impressive was that he didn't take steroids or peds.
Can't believe you're gone Roy... thanks for all the memories. You will be missed.
Rip Roy, always one of my favorite pitchers

What a pitchers duel that was, Josh Johnson must've wondered what happened, only gave up one earned run and he was still the losing pitcher. Well done Roy Halladay and rest in peace.
Thanks for the great memories with the Phillies and God bless you Roy. May your family be at peace. I know your up their with a great Philly pitching roster on your team, like Grover Cleveland, Robin Roberts, Tully Sparks an Jim Bunnings. Pitching against the greats, like the Babe, Gehrig, Ted Williams an so forth.

This game, right here is the clear defining difference between him and Adam Wainwright. People keep saying Wainwright's numbers are similar to Halladay, but Roy threw a PERFECT GAME, as well as a playoff no-hitter, neither of which did Wainwright do.
