Fair description, but what about the things that happen outside of nucleous? How organelles gets involved, shared/distributed during mitosis will an interesting thing to watch. Moreover, this elaborated process have the proteins gathering the parts for genes replication, so who control the process there when all things are untanglled apart? Must be a pre-phase of preparing the nucleous split done from outside of the nucleous as from inside as well...

Paul. Thank you for everything you do! One quick question. I have a Biology degree and I'm fascinated with Biology. Lately, however, I am having difficulty understanding what the reason that we are teaching students so many facts about Biology, such as the phases of Mitosis. Why is this necessary? We do not seem to be requiring the necessary 21st Century Skills & Technology Skills, yet we will go in detail about mitosis. I cannot imagine that even 0.1% of students will ever need to know this in real life. I also asked 100 adults this, and zero got it correct. What are your thoughts?

Great point. The movement in biology education is away from rote knowledge. For example the new AP Biology curriculum has removed this knowledge from the curriculum and focusses on the practices of science. However the rest of the world (and much of the states) is behind and this is the most requested video I have gotten so I thought I would do my best. Hope this helps.

You did a great job on it. I didn't mean to imply that it shouldn't have been done. I just wanted to know your take on why this type of information is necessary as standards. Thank you for your reply!

+Ronald Crowley exactly! I'm an AP Biology student, and 3/4 of the time, I wonder why we need to know this or know that. This video does an amazing job explaining mitosis, but is it ever REALLY necessary in the real world? Probably not. This is why school aggravates me; not the difficulty or the amount of work, but the lack of reasoning behind it.

+Ronald Crowley I ask myself this sort of question on many occasions in my years of teaching science. Eventually though, I come to realize that while the "21st Century Skills" are important, these sort of phenomena are simply dazzlingly beautiful to illustrate to people, and in doing so, may illuminate people to the wonders of science. It's the Lisa Simpson response- after her teacher came back from an absence, the Supply teacher had been in, and when she realized the lesson plans hadn't been touched, she asked what the Supply teacher had actually taught the kids while she was away. "That life is worth living" answered Lisa.

Great video! If I could add one piece of advice: I know you have a separate video that discusses ploidy in depth, but it would be VERY helpful if you added the ploidy of the cell at the very start of mitosis, and the ploidy of the cell at the very end.
