    Thank you for sharing your story! I also chose pharmacy over medicine and it involves similar thoughts and value systems. I pursued critical care and academia as a pharmacist after 9 years of training.

    There is flexibility with medical school. There are EAP (early assurance programs) and dual degree programs where you complete 2-3 years of undergraduate and go straight into MD or DO school depending on what school the partnership is with you may or may not have to take the MCAT or interview to get in

  • @Doctormycurls

    Thanks for sharing!! I know for the residency piece and getting into your specialty there isn’t much flexibility because it is mandatory. PharmD is optional and 2 years max of residency, so guaranteed to be working in your specialty in a shorter time frame.

  • @LifeWithLocc
    @LifeWithLocc3 жыл бұрын

    This was SO informative!! I actually chose my career (clinical social work) instead of clinical psych for the same reasons that you chose Pharmacy over medicine. It's much more flexible and way less time!! Since you've been in the field so far, is there a job that has particularly stolen your heart or would you say that you're still exploring that "perfect" match?

    I’m so glad you enjoyed this! That’s a GREAT question. Definitely a valid question and something you for sure want to consider!

    Hey!! Welcome to the pharmily 🤍 I love when people binge so go right ahead haha. I have some experience working with children in a pulmonologist (lung) office in the hospital so I can touch on how that experience was for me and some of the things to consider when working with pediatrics as a pharmacist. There’s a bunch of other jobs in pharmacy where you work with children outside of just lungs so you should go for it!!

    I am currently a premed but am thinking about applying to pharmacy school after I graduate. I am very indecisive but have the same views as you. However the negative views everywhere about pharmacy and it’s over saturation is discouraging? I know that if I go to pharmacy I want to work for the government or hospital. Also can you further explain ambulatory. Is it the same as clinical?

    Thank you for this! I am currently on the prepharmacy track as a biology major. You mentioned you were a chemistry major in undergrad: do you feel like pharmacy as a profession heavily relies on chemistry? I don’t mind chemistry but I’d choose bio over Chem in a heartbeat lol.

  • @Doctormycurls

    @Doctormycurls

    2 жыл бұрын

    I love hearing you are on the pre pharm track! What school do you attend? I would definitely say the first year of school does cover a lot of organic chemistry (understanding structural changes and functional groups), but after P1 year you shift into more clinical calculations and drug treatment options so just focus in your organic chemistry and biochemistry courses to make sure you have a strong foundation coming in and you’ll be good even with a biology degree/major.

    Heyy. I would say making sure that you are well rounded and your personal statement is individualized to what you can bring to the program is extremely helpful! I think those two carried me far. Hey! Nope so if you’re looking to get both your PharmD and PhD they have programs where you can do both at the same time. If you’re referring to just the pharmacy degree then no you don’t need residency first. The residency is optional and after the PharmD. Does this help?
