    @@georgia8154 Despite all evidence backing this, some part of me refuses to believe that there isn't a little bit of acting in his body language in that moment. It has so much touch-starved, repressed, incel energy, how can that just be a physical response to nervousness? I really can't fathom it. And I can't fathom how an experienced actor like Karimloo can get nervous, but then like of course I know he's human like anyone, it's just surprising.

    @@castlegarden2999 what evidence are you speaking of? Has he admitted to that in an interview or something? I genuinely believe this is just an acting choice, no way Ramin would still be that nervous with shaky hands after doing so many shows and such, and then he'd have more prominent shaky hands all the time, which he clearly doesn't. Only in the times where it would make sense for the character he's shown this as far as I know. It's just fantastic, the shakiness really adds so much to the phantoms character since he's been all by himself all this time and having someone suddenly that close to him excites and scares him at the same time, I absolutely love it. Ramin is such an amazing actor👏

    @@xxKakarot Sorry, I think I didn't come across clear enough. I'm agreeing with you! I also believed it was an acting choice. But apparently according to other comments, on a podcast with Hadley Fraser, Ramin Karimloo said his hands shaking was nerves. I haven’t found the clip of him saying it verbatim though, but the comments don't have a reason to lie about it.

    16:12 and 20:07 I think it's cool how in some versions, Christine touches the mask and looks around her for help. As if no one expected the Phantom to replace Piangi on stage and now Christine is hoping there's an officer or Raoul to come and catch him. Then the Phantom firmly holds onto her like, "The jig is up, don't go anywhere." But like SOMEONE had to have guessed there'd be a bait and switch right? Because why would you cloak your lead like that unless some shenanigans were about to happen?

    Little things I noticed in this one that I liked: 2:35 - Small thing - I like when Christine starts "one final question" in his ear 5:22 - Sometimes there's a little TOO much choreography going on 14:07 - "Where're you going? What's the rush?" 20:45 - Lookit those wings 21:10 - Gotta shout out my boy John Cudia again. I'm pretty much down with however the actors play this scene, but I do love a good nervous(?) hand clenching, especially after he's tried to be Mr. Stud. It's weirdly endearing out of context. 42:28 - Wow, LEG (I love when productions do the knee/leg thing, it's such a power move) 42:55 - Wow, Hungary was having Christine stage dance before it was cool (I also unironically like how he carries her down)

    The first recording makes me think of if Erik's music was real and gained popularity after the 1910 novel as "rediscovered opera" found in his subterranean home and recorded for the phonograph. It has that same sound quality.

    You know, it's weird, this scene is the only, the ONLY one in the movie that I like better than stage, (character motivation-wise, that is. I could def do without the flamenco backup dancers...). Raoul et. al. are trying to trap the Phantom, and they know he is going to make an appearance Eventually. In the movie It seems Christine knows right away that it's The Phantom (most likely because she recognizes his singing voice, and it's obviously not Piangi), and I see her attitude of fearlessness as her putting on an act to get him to think she has "decided... de-ci-ded" but is really luring him out into the open so he can get captured. The Shot of Raoul tearing up is.. well.. him not being very bright and thinking she's serious. That's my interpretation, anyways.

    Too bad that there is no video footage of the Czech production of Phantom...I saw it live a few weeks ago and the PONR scene was done amazingly there! During these lines, Christine climbed onto the table and the Phantom pulled her towards him across the table by her legs and then she let him caress her a bit before the final chorus and before she torn off his hood. They made it really nicely, I must say. Too bad that they are closing at the end of the year

    Why does the Phantom sing Christine's part here in the Vegas production (as seen with Sierra Boggess/Brent Barrett at 22:42 and Elizabeth Loyacano/Anthony Crivello at 22:13 )? Was Christine given any part to sing during PONR in Vegas Phantom?

  • @PrismsofGlass

    @PrismsofGlass

    7 жыл бұрын

    Because the Vegas production was drastically cut down. And yes, Christine does sing. The song basically goes like this: Phantom: "You have come here in pursuit of your deepest urge, in pursuit of that wish which til now has been silent, silent." Christine: "I have come here, that our passion at last may merge. In my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining, defenseless and silent." Phantom: "And now you are here with me, no second thoughts. You've decided. Decided. Past the point of no return, no backward glances. Our games of make-believe are at an end. Past all thought of if or when. No use resisting. Abandon thought and let the dream descend. What raging fire shall flood the soul, what rich desire unlocks its door, what sweet seduction lies before us." Both: "Past the point of no return, the final threshold. The bridge is crossed, so stand and watch it burn. We've passed the point of no return." Note that there are videos of this scene on KZread, so you can watch and listen to it there.

    I like the earlier takes on this scenes from the late 80s/90s. It never made any sense to me that Christine didnt know or heavily suspect that it was the Phantom under there from the beginning. Thats her angel of music and she doesnt recognize his voice? Come on. I like the idea more that she suspects or knows its him from the get go but is biding her time and leading him on until she can reveal him, all the while getting sort of caught up in the steamyness of the song. Her suddenly feeling the mask and trying to run of, and The Phantom pulling her just completely cuts the sensuality and the vibe from that scene. I dont know why they changed it.

    All of the vocals are beautiful in their own way and I love listening to all of them. However, I have a question for anyone willing to answer. How do they sound lower than how high they’re actually singing? Is it because that’s a sign of proper singing technique, like resonance and fullness? I know that in live performances the music is transposed down key or two but to me it still sounds a little lower than that.

  • @PrismsofGlass

    @PrismsofGlass

    4 жыл бұрын

    It could be because of the resonance, it could also just be certain qualities of their voice. Some singers just have "lighter" voices; these are ones that sound "higher". Others have "darker" or "warmer" voices, and these tend to sound "lower".

  • @PrismsofGlass

    @PrismsofGlass

    8 жыл бұрын

    If you watch full footage of the scene (I uploaded one from the US Tour on my channel), at one point, when Christine is sitting on the table, the Phantom wraps his hands around Christine's head/eyes as a figurative "blindfold". Christine panics and pushes him off. In the restaged tour's 'Music of the Night', the Phantom puts an actual blindfold on Christine, and I think that's how she figures it out it's the Phantom with her - either the gesture, or his actual hands, are familiar to her.

  • @PrismsofGlass

    @PrismsofGlass

    4 жыл бұрын

    Nope, she didn't. There are various explanations for this. Many Phantoms put on an Italian accent, to better imitate PIangi, and Christine didn't recognize it because of that. Another is that she fell under the Phantom's hypnotic voice again, and it lulled her into a sense of complacency. And yet another possibility is that neither she nor anyone else expected the Phantom to actually be onstage, they thought he'd be in Box 5, so she brushes off any weirdness as her paranoia. Or it's a combination of all those explanations.

    Glass Prism A comparison of the reaction of Christine when she realizes it is the phantom. You know, when the phantom is pulling her. From: "past the point of return, the final threshhold" to "the bridge is crossed so stand and watch it burn". How did Christine know it was the phantom?

    Teether Geaver I'll think about it, though I don't think there's a lot of variation in that scene. As for how she knew it was the Phantom, she felt the mask under his hood. (Notice how all the Christines rub their cheek against his face and then leap back.)

    Teether Geaver Yes, every actress is different in their reaction and how they interpret the role. Some will break and flee, some will try to quietly get away, some might not even be that afraid of the Phantom. That's the beauty of theatre - everyone's different. But in general, most Christines are scared and do try to get away. (Generalization, woot.)

    lol there's never ever Craig Schulman in any of these (or anywhere I can find on youtube). Hmm. He was the first Phantom I ever saw, haha. I obviously liked him, watching that is what got me into this whole POTO thing. But now that I know other actors and the story a lot better, I've always wanted to look back and see what I think of him as Phantom now. Oh well. But Glass Prism I love that you do these, thanks. Doing the good work for all us phans

    That's because there's no video of Craig Schulman's Phantom. There's audio, so he might appear in some of the audio comparisons, but nothing I know of beyond that (and some promo photos).

    Thanks for responding! Someone did send me an audio recording of him doing the show a long time ago, so at least I got to hear that (just sound...and I don't have it anymore, it got lost on a computer that crashed). I guess he's really a phantom Phantom (get it). He will rest forevermore a blurry mystery memory in my mind as just my first Phantom and the one that made me a fan lol. I mean, it's the whole show/story/character that made me a fan, but I have to give him credit too obvs for convincing me

    22:45 why is phantom singing christines part?

  • @PrismsofGlass

    @PrismsofGlass

    Жыл бұрын

    Because it is the Las Vegas production, which was shortened to a one act, 90 minute performance. This meant cutting some songs down, including 'Point of No Return'.

    That's from the Vegas production. The Vegas production was shortened to a 1-act, 90 minute show, which meant cutting several lines and scenes. One of those scenes was 'Point of No Return'; they cut a lot of the Phantom's and especially Christine's lines, which is why lines are both switched around way, way shorter than in the regular show.

    What is up with the UK tour? Budget too small to invest in a full cloak? ;) Lmao...I mean, the sleeves look ridiculous, plus they instantly give away the Phantom, which kind of defeats the whole idea behind this song. What were they thinking? And why deviate from the perfection that is the London production in the first place?
