Phantom Comparison - Start a new life with me
Video comparison of various Phantoms during the 'Final Lair', specifically the line, "Start a new life with me! Buy his freedom with your love! Refuse me and you send your lover to his death!" and his manhandling of Christine.

10:12 I've long-hoped to see Christine have the idea to physically lift up Raoul so he could free himself from the noose! Mexico did not disappoint!
Michael Crawford flapping his hands made me laugh so hard lol XD I love it omg

It's so petulant and childlike. You'd never expect such tantrum-throwing gestures from a solemn, collected Phantom like Crawford’s. Erik is a hurting child beneath the seduction and craft, and I love that about Crawford’s portrayal. The selfishness of the phantom’s character is a testament to his inner neglected child.
How did they get away with that in 20:22 like holy shit
Wow. Uh, yeah. I mean... some actors portray his repressed sexual desire really well, but if he's so blatant as to grope Christine roughly, it kind of contradicts the whole fantasy he's been building up around her. He doesn't want anything as *mundane* as mere sexual contact, he clearly wants a bride, a one true love, and all the trappings that come along with it, the ritual and seduction and tenderness, even if they are only an act.

That awkward moment when your music teacher forces you to marry him????
John Cudia and Marni Raab’s performance was the first of the clips that really got my attention. When Christine was on the ground and The Phantom got DIRECTLY in her face and practically screamed at her…oooh, chills!! And while I thought Ramin’s lines were a bit rushed, that man will always be my #1 Phantom!
I love it when it's acted with a slight pause like 'Hey, I just got an idea!'
Michael Crawford flopping his hands around at 1:45 XD LOL definitely adds emphasis.
They're all pretty good, but my personal favourite will always and forever be John Owen-Jones. Love his voice to pieces.
Could you maybe do a comparison video of when the phantom shouts, "Go! Go now, and leave meeeeeeeee!!!" ?

What in the hot hell
Haha I love what Michael Crawford's doing with his hands. Ernst Dieter-Sutthemier sounds really scary. But his stomping made me smile lol. And Alexander Goebel's too. Kevin Gray was also scary. Loved Peter Karrie, Thomas James O'Leary, Scott Davies (was he trying to kiss her?), Ian Jon Bourg, Luis Armando, Brad Little, James Romick, Hugh Panaro, Matthew Cammelle, Gary Mauer, Ethan Freeman, Anthony Crivello (I prefer the lasso compared to the cage, it's just weird haha), John Cudia, Ramin Karimloo and John Owen-Jones. And what's up with Uwe Kroeger?! That was really weird....
Always love when the "Christine's" scream as an acting choice when "The Phantom" when he attacks her.
The cage was so weird. It's supposed be a lasso and changing it that much makes it seem "off". Great comparison, though. Thanks. I love all of the camparisons that I see on youtube. Keep them coming, please.
Interesting to see the different make=up, different acting styles, etc.
Ramin is my all time favorite. They guy who stomped his feet, made me laugh so hard!!! Still laughing!!!

I know you have made several comparison videos for this incredible show. Do you think you could make a comparison video of the line, "Your lover makes a passionate plea"? That has always been one of my favorite Phantom lines!
I will say that I love the fact that it seems like German Christines, literally, try to punch Erik in the face when he first grabs them. Great touch. :) Also, damn, nearly every single German cast I've seen has been astounding. So much emotion and movement in every moment. I've watched so many of these comparison vids and I have to, sadly, admit that I have yet to see a Canadian cast that puts in much effort. ^^; I guess they're too nice to be cruel. Crawford must've been having an "off night" when that was taken. XD The weird flapping of his hands and him not hitting the usual notes... He seemed tired and not really into it. Which is fine. All Broadway performers can't give 100% every single night. It's easy to get worn and exhausted after so many performances on a weekly basis. Also, also, I love when Raouls really get into their parts in this scene. I love ones that don't just stand there helplessly. I like ones that struggle to break free and/or verbalize their discontent. A few of them in this vid yelled, "NO!" when Erik yanked Christine away, which is an excellent touch. And, yet again, the Japanese have great voices, but can't seem to portray extreme emotions. XD; It's, literally, a requirement for these parts, especially with the Phantom. ^^; Also, Uwe Kroeger... great up until he straight up felt her right boob... o_O I get the sexually repressed Phantom bit, but... no, bro. I wonder if he's allowed to do that...
there's something comical about the pans out when Raoul and the phantom are fidgeting in their parts of the stage and a pile of white fabric on the other side which is Christine.
Can you do comparison of Christine in Journey to the Cemetery "In sleep he sang to me...."
I just noticed that forgien Phantoms are more voilent and angry, and the American and Broadway ones are more dramatic and tense. But my favorites are Brad Little, for being both voilent scary, and in Christines face, Hugh Panearo for being those and sounding super crazy, and Ramin for all of those and bitch slapping Raoul. Thats all. P.S. WTF is with the cage in Las Vegas? Did someone have an accident with the lasso?
P.S. Thank you so much for sharing all these! It was so exciting for me to see so many different Phantoms!!!
My favourite will always be JOJ's one at the end
Awesome compilation, Glass Prism! From these clips, I really loved Gaines, Romick, Buntrock, McGillin, Crawford, and Little. Colm made me chuckle in this one. Suttheimer is a madman! Yamaguchi's makeup artist clearly didn't bring her A game that night. Ramin, Panaro, and JOJ are amazing, but these weren't their best efforts. They're all phantastic, really . . . except Paul Stanley lol.
This is fascinating! Thanks so much for posting this!
That would be fine! I'm comparing Christine's "Tears of hate", so that will go up first because I'm nearly done with it, but I think the mirror bride one will come right after; I got some requests from it on my Tumblr as well.
Brad little was the best. he is so violent and crazy. its perfect!
Hey! Do you think you could make a video of Erik's reaction when Christine sings the "tears of hate" line? Thanks!!
do "the world showed no compassion to me" pls :3

Lara Tan i would LUV to see that one as well, Lara!!
This sounds sooooo evil in German... who would have guessed
I love how Kevin Gray tried to kiss her, haha!
this might be one of my favourite part of the musical, i love the anger and the way the phantom grabes christine
THANK YOU.
I love this song
Ted Keegan & Becca Pitcher were my First Phantom & Christine Nearly Nineteen yrs ago…July 5, 2001…My Passion & Dedication Began!!!!!!!
Because the video I have of him is from 2008, while his performance in the RAH concert was from 2011. A lot can change in three years.
This just makes me want to cry 😭 because Christine loves Roaul so much. I mean it’s so sad! 😖
John Cudia was my very first Vicomte, July 5, 2001!!!!!!!
Haha I loved the raoul who like spun round trying to hit the phantom.. Anyone know who that was?
Requests for certain scenes or videos? Yeah, I'm fine with that. (Sorry for the late reply.)

Glass Prism Can you please do the part before twisted every way? Where Christine shouts "I'm going mad...It scares me Raoul" or something- that would be great :)
Lord Chamberlain at 6:26!
23:11 THANK YOU RAMIN!! I never liked Roaul so I have always wanted to bitch slap him, especially when I saw love never dies. So thank you * bitch slaps Roaul again*
No, the cage is always used in Vegas. Funnily enough, it was the planned method of trapping Raoul in the original, but was probably deemed too elaborate, so they went for the lasso.
@analy9699

the lasso is also inspired by the book in which erik uses the punjab lasso with his victims
Do have a video of colm performing music of the night in the Canadian tour?
John Cudia and Brad Little are my favorites here :)
I have video of him performing it during his time in Toronto, but not the Canadian tour. (Was he ever in the Canadian tour? I don't recall him being there...)
THIS IS DA CHOICE
Hey in the next comparison could you do the final lair???
I don't think you have enough Japan or Austria. Just kidding mate. Excellent video!
Ernst Dieter-Suttheimer has so much anger in the final lair here let me do a exspeshion of him THE WORLD SHALL HAVE COMPASHION TO MEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is definly my biggest fan and Alexander Goebel too.
Kevin Gray was my favorite here :)

Colm sounds like he is drunk.
Er, I have the entire video of his performance, if that's what you mean.
I like Brent Barret, John Cudia and John Owen Jones. I wish that they had the one from the 25th anniversary and the 2004 film, though
In this particular video, John Owen Jones... If you put Anthony Warlow in it, then it would be him for definite... :)
Peter Karrie and Scott Davies ;))
Dosent anybody know who's Christine in Jeff hyslop clip
'Dave Willetts'(took over from Mike Crawford) & the 1st Phantom I ever saw & still the Best & closest 2 'Michael Crawfords Performance'x

I saw Michael, twice and Dave six times. Many Phantoms since. Few I've seen come close to Dave. He had a tough act to follow but really made it his own. Much more psychotic in the closing scene and somewhat 'disturbed' in the angel at the end of All I Ask of You. The current Ben Foster is a good egg. Will go to see him again. Ramin was ok, but never really rated him like so many seem to. Seen any others?

+essenceofman I have seen many Very good 'Phantoms' a few of my 'Fav' r 'Peter Karrie' 'Scott Davies' 'Mike Sterling' 'John Owen Jones' & 'Ramin Karimloo' One I always wanted 2 c was 'Colm Wilkinson' I thought he would have done it in London! I believe he would have been the 'Original' if he had not been contracted 2 play 'Valjean!' Funny thing one of the few I did not like was 'Ben Forster!' I felt his acting was Poor! It seemed forced & not fluid & Natural! One of the things I loved about 'Dave Willetts' was he really got under the Skin of the Phantom! Living & breathing every moment of the performance!x
kevin gray is really good too
Ernst really acted like a maniac!!
scott davies is amazing
whats with the cage in las vegas. like he kills people with the punjab lasso so whats the piont
@PrismsofGlass

From what I've heard, the cage was actually the original idea for capturing Raoul when making the show back in the 1980s, but it just wasn't feasible at the time, so they switched to the lasso instead. But by 2006, it was possible, so I guess they went for it.

Why does ramin sound different
i like Olivia Safe.
Teresa DeZarn.
rebecca pitcher is pretty good
irasema terrazas is great
If it's Uwe Kroger, yep. Kind of why I didn't like his Phantom very much...
As usual, Coll Wilkinson has to be the odd one out of the bunch
the austrian and german phantoms are more drastic
How many times can you count how many German ones their were? I'm not a racist.
@PrismsofGlass

Well, nobody's accusing you of being one. However, there are a lot of videos from the German production because there were a lot of them and they lasted a while: the original Hamburg production lasted from 1990-2001, Stuttgart from 2002-2004, Essen from 2005-2007, the Hamburg revival from 2013-2015, and Oberhausen from 2015-2016. Musical theater there is also quite popular, and there are a lot of filmers there, making for a lot of bootlegs.
wuwaw
To me Ernst is the best here. Most of them look too restrained in the performances. Ernst flat out goes psychotic which I think is strongly needed in this scene.

Ramin wins. Such an amazing voice
