They did an amazing job making this look really good! I wonder if they're planning to remake the third and fourth installments like this. Phantasy Star needs to have a fifth installment for today's consoles. No PS Online or Universe. No DLC or lootcrates, everything is already in the game.

I thought I heard something along the lines they wanted to do this with 4 for sure but never got the chance too or something of the like. Id be all for more PS and even a full blown remake doesn't seem out of grasp concerning how much people still love the games.

they did want to remake 3 and 4, they even planned to localize all four as a set once all of them had been made, but the line of games was cut short after the second one, they were part of a larger series of remake of older titles, done in a "budget game" format

I STILL hope they remake Phantasy Star 3 and 4!! It was something they they should’ve done awhile back. I really would love to see PS 3 and PS4 get cleaned up. PS 3 have lots of missing gear and towns that were cut from the final version.

I know they were planning on doing Phantasy Star Generation 4, but it fell through for whatever reason.

I actually did it on the original version. However, even if you leveled Nei up to 50 (which was the max level cap on the Sega Genesis version,) Neifirst would die, but afterwards, it would go to the cut-scene, and Nei would die anyway.

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense if Nei lives when Neifirst is defeated. In fact, they're biologically linked together.

@@megspitzer9406 Plus I prefer Nei going out taking Neifirst done rather then dying like a chump failing! Feels way to similar to alot of Anime/Manga where you think the heroine will get her moment to shine then NOPE, she's made helpless and the Hero has to save the day for the 99th fucking time in a row (Like the writer's scared if anyone is allowed to do well, their hero will look like a chump, only to succeed in making their hero look like a chump anyway because he's a gary stu of the WORSE calibur! I compare it to a few DnD horror stories where a "Main Character Syndrome" asshole has to assert themselves into everyone's backstory and side quest in the worst way, where THERE the ones to resolve it and not the PC who is suppose to be the MC in their side story, and will even break the realms of common sense to force themselves into parts THEIR NOT SUPPOSE TO BE IN to make themselves important! It usually ends with them fucking the party over when it counts because the DM has been useless in stopping them up to this point, why not let them fuck everyone over out of a sense of "avoiding conflict that's going to come anyway. I'd rather anger one "That Guy/Girl causing the trouble then the entire fucking table with nonsense or shit on the victim just cause I know they won't throw a tantrum) Rolf still gets his sad moment and final goodbye with Nei regardless! So why make it a forced lose situation? (Or have her fight Neifirst alone for that matter! If it's to be Nei last hurray, why not have the whole party....instead of nerfing us by having us fight with three people)

I really appreciated that they gave Nei the different dialogue for accomplishing it though. I played the original game when it first came out as a little kid (I'm old), and just absolutely loved Nei from the jump. I was so gutted they killed her that I attempted this to try to save her. Obviously that was unsuccessful, but the game explaining why it didn't work was a surprising little touch.

@@na2154 Fairy Tale and Black Clover are notoriously BAD with this! It's like every arc builds up a character about to fight a character connected to them! Then the writer (who is the same writer for both by the way) somehow makes this the "MC does everything" game like this is a D&D Horror story of an intrusive player with Main Character syndrome and has THEM fight that character instead because "MC has to do everything" (It's not even EXCLUSIVE to just women! It's also MEN suffering it too! I was referring more to how they kept having the MC have to intrude where their not wanted and stealing another character's glory! It's more seen in "Harem's" where the Girls in the Harem are little more then "cheerleaders" who RARELY get to prove themselves and if they girl was established as a badass compared to the guy! Like in Fairy Tail with Erza who was S RANK compared to Natsu who was "HER subordinate he's made to fight HER battle just cause! At least the writer calmed that shit down in the later parts of Fairy Tale.....but then brought it back in Black Clover!) Just felt like Nei went through all that character growth from the backstory and up to this point....just to fail in the end (Though it is nice that if you go the extra mile, you CAN subvert by having her win! Even if she is doomed to die, at least she went out like a Boss then like a damsel)

What your referring to Alys death? Honestly I'm good with how she went out, the point would have been lost on the impact of her death if she went out like a badass! The fact she died in such a way only fueled Chaz and Company desire to kick Zio ass in retribution for disgracing Alys like that! I mean Nei is suppose to die getting her ass handed to her in a curb stomp to Neifirst! The "she dies if Neifirst dies" bit was to assure if gamers overlevel and equip Nei to survive the forced loss, she still dies regardless! I don't get how this doesn't apply to Neifirst though as Nei dies RIGHT before you kill her with Rolf and Company, unless it's one of those "Nei being an offshoot dying doesn't effect the main body that is Neifirst, but if Neifirst goes down, the Offshoot dies sort of situation" But frankly this should have been how Nei went out, fighting and winning despite knowing she'd die, rather then journeying to get stronger just to fail at the end and have Rolf do it! (Feels like Chaz with Alys, except it takes a while and build up before you get to Zio so the revenge ends up sweeter, while Neifirst is resolved immediatly which feels bittersweet and do quickly resolved, I get why afterwards, but still)

I disagree. PS2 remake (moreso than the PS1 remake) looks like a mobile game, before mobile games were a thing. It's sloppy and a bastardized version of the original. PS4 is one of my all time favs, and doesn't deserve this treatment.

Nei First was my first JRPG boss battle... a 1989 original release, though. I thought it was a good idea in the remake to give Nei Deban and Shift. With her skill, Last Force Nei is the only character with the possibility of independent survivability.

i had no idea there was an english translation for the remake. btw, that distracting chirping noise sounds like a low battery in a smoke detector.

Actually, you beat Neifirst with just Nei. You just had to get Nei VERY high level and have all of her best eqp. IIRC, jwl ribn, lasr bar, crc bar, knifboots, fibr vest or maybe crc vest.

This was just as sad as when FF7 killed off Aerith! 😭

neifirst was using those bio lifeforms to conquer the planet.

By the time the saga of Phantasy Star went into new generations beyond console Genesis1&2, it became very anima, child appeal of classic cartoon modern Sci-Fi, The seriousness and role play legacy diluted into replicate of other Sci-Fi game & cartoon render, the unique was lost.

It was in the original game as well. You had to spend hours grinding EXP with Nei so she's at a very high level in order to do it, but it was possible to defeat Neifirst with Nei. However since Nei was born from within Neifirst as a part of her, she cannot live if Neifirst is dead. @@Jugdjay It was there in the off chance you sequence broke their "Forced Loss Battle somehow" similar to how if you used an escapipe at the start of Phantasy Star 3 (Difficult to get early on, but DOABLE) as Rhys when your thrown in the dungeon, the king will applaud you for sequence breaking, then tell you how you fucked it all up and have to restart the game now At least in 2 they saw the possibility and assured the same result would happen even if you win! Which is pointless cause your giving EXP to a "Dead character walking" which could go to Rolf and company who will survive after this! Just shows how rushed 3 was in that they didn't just toss you into the dungeon and had you start gameplay there!

@@megspitzer9406 It's not. It's actually very doable, you just need to grind a lot. If you get her to level 50, with her best gear and a bag full of Trimate, you can beat Neifirst without that much difficulty. Fortunately, Climatrol is the best place in the entire game to grind, as you can just farm Blastoids (as you can exploit their cloning), so if you do this you'll end up absolutely steamrolling the rest of the game as the other members of your party will be like 15 levels higher than they normally are.

@@paulman34340 2 has a gamebreaking sequence in it as well. It's FAR harder to pull off (if not impossible), but if you kill the Army Eyes in the dams before they plasma ring you, you can never proceed with the game. I'm not entirely sure you can actually do it without game genie/hacking though, those things have a ton of HP and they use it on their 3rd turn. Maybe at max level you could finagle it.

I find it bizarre that they didn’t seize the opportunity to give the battles an actual relevant background instead of the wireframe sega was rushed into passing off in the OG ps2. Weird

I agree, some of the songs kinda lost impact they had, Silent Zone being one of the massive downgrades. There are some songs that are ok but yeah.
