    History shows #1 overall picks of QBs turns out with more failures than success stories. Poles already knows this that's why he passed on last year's can't miss, generational talent of Bryce Young.

    The plan they have in place is probably the offers they are willing to accept from specific teams for the #1 overall or the offers they would accept to trade Fields. It doesn't necessarily mean they know who they will draft or if they are DEFINITELY keeping Fields. Its likely their strategy for what they want in return for either the pick or for Justin and how they will approach teams and draft prospects at the combine

    Everybody's talking about the next Mahomes like they were for 20 years about the next Brady. Thinking that one player will be the savior of a 53 man team has only worked for 2 out of 32 teams, if that is your plan it's fool's gold.

    Mike Florio is right could trade out and double up again or swing for the fences for a better prospect while already having the 9th and have a rookie QB contract. Go Bears. I want a QB that can do it in the pocket because running QBs have a lower shelf life and some D’s will make you be a pocket QB like Green Bay did last yr.

    The Bears could go lower and then trade back up. The draft haul gets bigger the lower you go and trading back into the top 5 is possible (See Houston picking 2nd and then trading back to the 3rd spot last year).

    The beats roster is so bad that trading the number one makes sense. Bears need players and Florio has a point if you trade the number one to a garbage team for Caleb Williams to go to odds are the team won't be very good and you'll get another high pick next year. Probably not another one but top ten for sure.

    My guess is either Fields will be their QB - or - they will trade Fields AND then trade the #1 pick to the skins. And then with the #2 pick they draft Maye or Daniels. That way they get a bevy of extra picks out of Fields and Williams.

    Layup? LMAO more than 60% of #1 QB taken don't turn out to be all that. Bryce Young was also a so-called layup and now we own the #1 pick because of people like you and your way of thinking. If we take CW and he don't do well, HC gets fired, CW will be learning and second play book in as many years. And he will be going down the path that JF has had to do. Not to mention because you passed on the draft capitol for not trading the pick. You now pay through the nose for players in FA that you could have gotten on 5-year rookie deals and younger.

    Fields gets paid 1.6m next year. After that he gets the big contract and will get paid somewhere around 40m per after that. So for the next 4 years we'll pay JF 121.6m over those years. OR we can draft a guy that will probably be better (maybe way better) and pay him around 4-5 TOTAL over those 4 years. That's 116.6 MILLION to pay other guys with. Pay free agents that have proven their talent, not draft picks.

    They paid Cutlet because there were no other, better options. LIke every team does. The Bears COULD live and maybe even win with Fields. Maybe even a super bowl. But right NOW. In THIS moment, they have an alternative, that to most scouts/GM's is an upgrade in skills and ceiling. Who's also younger, can make ALL the throws, win you games with his passing and will earn 110M less in the next 4 years vs Fields. THERE is the difference.

  • @waylandcool

    @waylandcool

    If they Bears trade down, they will get 2 or 3 1sts and a 2nd or 2 then that gives them multiple blue chip rookies on rookie deals which is less free agents to sign. Just another way to look at it.

    I'm not following this logic that it's a risk to take a QB at #1 overall (those numbers don't add up, by the way) but wait yet another year on one that was taken 11th overall when you need to make a decision on his 5YO in a few months. Steve Jobs' "reality distortion field" ain't got nothin' on Justin Fields'. I like him, I hope he balls out somewhere else, but continuing this experiment and passing AGAIN at taking whoever you deem to be the best college player in the draft, is not a plan. It's chasing ghosts.

  • @pauliej345

    @pauliej345

    Exactly! I agree 100%. Florio not comfortable with success rate on #1 QB picks. Lets see by going back last 20 years. Other than Bryce Yong who ill give a pass too for this year & Jamarcus Russell who's an obvious bust the next two worst are Sam Bradford & Jameis Winston. Both arguably have had much more success and better careers at this point in there career than Fields. The success rate to find at very least a top 15 QB is pretty high. If you we count Bradford and Winston as busts then thats 3/14. You have jut under 79% chance of a top 15 QB. If we count Young as a bust already then its 4/15 or 73% chance of a top 1 QB. Those look like pretty damn good odds, I don't know what Florio is smoking. I would take Caleb Williams. Bryce Young Trevor Lawrence Joe Burrow Kyler Murray Baker Mayfield Jared Goff Jameis Winston Andrew luck Cam Newton Sam Bradford Matthew Stafford Jamarcus Russel Alex Smith Eli Manning Carson Palmer

    Trade with Washington - Grab Terry McLaurin + 2025 1st round pick + 2026 2nd Round pick + 2026 4th Round Pick Trade Justin + 2026 2nd Round pick to Atlanta for #8 pick or Pkg 2 Justin plus 2025 1st round from Washington Trade Terry McLaurin + #9 Pick to Arizona for #4 pick. Essentially they can get (2) WRs for 1 pick. Terry is a 1,000 yard WR. Now you sitting with #2, #4 & #8 plus 2025 1st round pick or 2026 2nd round pick With Atlanta, giving them the 2025 1st round gives them the option of a reset in case they don't like what Justin is showing OR ability to add an additional weapon. Washington is resetting. We saw this with the sell off last year with Sweat and Young. They have a crap load of picks in 2025 & 2026. They probably have 1 QB in mind and are fixated on him.

    Another of the stupidest takes. Yes, top 5 QBs can fail. Sure. But the % of players who have been demonstrably bad and turned it around is far far lower. He isn’t a high end talent at the things you need to be a high end talent at to win in the NFL. He’s one of the leagues worst passers, one of the leagues worst processors (watch any full game tape breakdown), and he’s basically at the extension point. The QB class is considered poor next year and the three guys you have to choose from are all much higher graded prospects that fields was coming out of college. I think he should get a chance somewhere else, but it would be literal malpractice to keep him and trade the pick. Florio always has his favorite “victims” who he convinces himself we’re done wrong. Makes for terrible takes.
