I loved being in a game, in the huddle and hearing "X out, Y pop". 🤘 6:04 it was our play name for, essentially, this play. rush out, hit the defender, then break contact, cut across the field and put my hands up. The ball... already on the way. ...then (in my case), you are pretty much guaranteed to be hit hard the moment the ball touches your hands. When you make it past that hit, you feel like a warrior! Made me almost feel bad for anyone who would get in front of me. My mindset was 'you wont be able to tackle me and if you do manage to get me, its going to hurt you more than me' and, at times, I felt bad when someone would get their bell rung after I plowed through them. 😅 Sorry...I was going to juke and go around but... then I saw you and thought "nah. its just one dude and he isnt scary. it will be quicker to go through thasns around. He wont mind." 😂 slow my speed a tiny bit, drop a shoulder, then go as fast as i could... then bend the knees and introduce my shoulder pad to the defender as I explode out of that lowered stance. If youve ever knocked someone out with a fist to the chin, it feels odd....it doesnt feel like you missed but it doesnt feel like a solid hit either. Its similar when you make a solid tackle, block or truck through someone. You feel it but its not like being hit and not expecting it. It like running through a firm foam tackling pad. You feel it but it doesnt hurt and you get this adrenaline rush that makes you want to just plow through everyone else! ...then you hit a guy stronger than you and you remember how fragile you are. 😂😂 I only played i schoo and only for a short time. I was a smaller kid....and I LOVED trucking through bigger dudes. That "did that hobbit kid just ...knock me down? how and how is he still running?" 😂

I played football for one year and it was in middle school. I was lucky and got to play on every team (Defense, offense, special teams) and while I really loved being a defensive player because I was decent at it.... ....I had actual pride in being a TE. I was and still am a littler dude. I legit nearly fit my middle school practice jersey still (it's a bit too short but...I bet I could still get it over pads) and I'm almost 40 😂😂 So, being a 5'4", 130lbs kid... and getting be play TE... it was a dream come true! I got my ass handed to me a lot.... once by a badass girl (She lifted me by my pads, threw me down... and I thought "Play 1? ....this is going to be a painful game" 😂) ...but I also got some fun in there too. A great tackle when you're on D is an amazing experience, but getting to run and catch the ball, block on the line (stopping a near sack... feels pretty good too) and, my favorite: getting to lay down hard blocks for the ball carrier was great! Big dudes would think they were about to truck through me.... then they are on their butt trying to figure out what just happened. 😂 I was fast and Force, as well know, is Mass × Acceleration. I didn't need to be big to make a big hit... I just had to learn a bit of physics 👍 That's enough of me being an 'Uncle Rico' type of person. 😂 "I bet I could tight end a bowl over them mountains!" 😂

So flashback to 1976 and I’m playing Pop Warner football on a team on a military base and I’m the tight end! I caught maybe 6 passes in 2 years in practice 😆 We had 2 running backs that we called lightning and thunder. Darryl Ward and Greg Bradley so we never passed in a real game in 2 years..🎉😅 Oh….i did catch a short kick one game and I turned around and threw the ball to Darryl Ward and he ran it back for a touchdown.
