Peugeot 205 T16 Evo II VS Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak || Montée des Légendes 2018

Last weekend´s Montée des Legendes in France was a Hillclimb Festival with some amazing guests, but what caught our attention was the possibility of watching back to back Two Peugeot Monsters: the 600+Hp/930Kg Group B 205 T16 Evo II and Loeb´s 875Hp/875Kg 208 T16 Pikes Peak.
Although never a fair comparison when it comes to pure Speed, it was a unique opportunity to watch these 2 Legends that at different points in time were the most extreme cars ever created by Peugeot Sport. Also they both share interesting connections to Pikes Peak, as obviously, Loeb´s car was a former Overall recordist of the event, but Jean Duby´s 205 also uses the engine that Peugeot Sport fitted on the Pikes Peak versions of the 205 T16 that competed on the 1987 edition of Pikes Peak.

    208 is absolutely mentally quick and as much as i like it its still just a very good machine, if i had to choose would still take the 205, its got soul, like a wild animal that u have to take by the scruff and try to tame..

    +john smith To each their own.But i don't agree with you saying only 205 has soul.208 has it as well in my opinion. You can see how it sounds,how it goes.That car is a true animal.I'd rather dare to slam the pedal in 205 than 208 because 208 seems like it's just too much to handle when compared to 205.

    205 has a soul? Maybe, but it's for sure the most souless beast of Gr. B. Literally nothing special, except winning the championship. Metro 6R4 was a N/A V6. 037 was supercharged. Audi Quattro S1 E2 has the inline 5 turbo. The Delta S4 was super- and turbo- charged. Cappable of a lot of HP. Citröen BX was a tryhard Group B wannabe. Ford RS200 had its own shape, and was builted only for rallying. Opel Manta was that guy nobady even thought it was a Group B car.

    +Ryan Rivero Santana i never said it had the most soul of all the group b cars all though was still a good car just not compared to the mighty quattro or the beautiful rs200, was merely comparing the old and new peugeots.. (the manta 400 has a place in my heart too as i had the joy to ride in one 4yrs ago and was a truely special experiance!)

    Don't forget the 208 is made for the new 100% asphalt Pikes Peak, whilst the 205 had to cope with the dirt part. The lower ride height helps 208's pace a lot..

    205 never ran on Pikes Peak it was the 405... 205 was made for gravel dirt asphalt snow everything, 405 was made especially for Pikes Peak in 80's, 208 is made for modern Pikes Peak making a run between them isn't fair and competitive we have to see that just as a fun thing and tribute to the 205 T16. Btw pilots who use 205 T16 or 405 T16 today don't use it like they were use for a two reasons, if they crash 1) they have no chance to survive and 2) They have a historical car in their hand and no one wants to broke them

    The Peugeot 208 Pikes Peak was the best tarmac rally car ever created. It was driven by the best rally driver ever created. That record-setting lap was peak motorsport history. I don’t think things get any better than that.

    Incomparable, la 205 et la 406 t16 . Loeb dit lui même qu’il ne pourrait pas faire se qu’ils ont fait. La seul différence c’est l’époque . Aujourd’hui les jeune ne savent même plus régler une carbu . Leur voiture sont branchés à un pc pour gagner 40 ch a l’époque t’ouvrait ton moteur et tu savait se qu’il a été fait . Maintenant c’est que du Jacky. Et navrée mais pikes peak , c’est la 405 , route en terre , des couille , la main pour esquiver le soleil . Ça c’est l’histoire .

    @VY A.L.M c'est vrai, et on reprochait déjà aux voitures des années 1980 d'être "trop technologiques" en comparaison de celles des années 1960. On verra en 2030 ce qu'on dira !     Proud to own a 1991 1.9gti that now lives in Charente Maritime with us and our husky Odin.Had the car for 16years up till now and have no plans to part with it any time soon. Will go with the 205 over it’s younger brother mainly because back in the 80s group B was the panicle of rallying. Here in France our “pug” turns more than it’s fair share of heads as we tour around the area.If you find one,buy it,without hesitation.Then you will know what it’s all about.

    The 205 is a car build for rallying and is a lot older the 208 is probably purposely build for hillclimb racing so it would make sense

    La 205 pouvait être encore plus puissante que la 208, en baissant la régulation de la wasegate et en jouant sur l'avance, la 205 peut plafonner à 800/900ch. Et la vitesse aussi, la 208 ne va pas à plus de 250km/h, et certaines boîtes de rallye pour des rallye à grande vitesse était assez longues, et ça poussait à 230/240kmh à fond.

    La competencia Pikes Peak, era mucho mejor, al menos para el público, cuando el camino era de tierra. Con el asfalto perdió mucha "espectacularidad". Hay un video de Ari Vatanen subiendolo ( en un Peugeot 405, creo) antes de ser asfaltado que es espectacular.

    i like the 205 as a collector item and for a Goodwood event to show the car. However if i am competing in the timed shootout, 208 all day.

    Driving them both in VR. The 208 makes you feel like a passenger inside the car whereas the 205 makes you feel the car is under YOUR control. I'd take the 205 any day!

    I think the 205 would or could be made to go a lot lot faster if he crashed his 205 getting parts is near on impossible where as the 208 parts even though its a special would be easier to make or get hold of. The 205 t16 is a priceless artifact and must be treated as such. Long live the greatest era in motorsports history even if its in books videos or just in our minds the 80s where the greatest time in history music cars and life in general.

    I had a 19 GTI back in the day, oh gosh! Not a patch on the T16 but still a shit load of 2liter engine in a Hot hatch! Used to race my ole mate in another Frenchie..... R 5 Gt turbo! Was always close as! Not forgetting my other Pal Dan in another classic the UNO ie Turbo what a car too! Boom! 1995 ish I think....

    the 205 is a real rally car, made in the time when all those powerful group b machines were fighting all over the world, with proffesional pilots and no electric help from nowhere, it was all turbo and two great hands to control the beast, besides, peugeot wan the 1986 year ....

    Ce n'est pas une 205 Turbo 16 Pikes Peak mais une de rallye. C'est celle que Michel Mouton a piloter au Tour de Corse en 1986
