I love that far away, soft sound that tubas and French horns have.

  • @NBH-xh3nq

I'm sure you know why, but if anyone wants to know it is because the sound is projected behind the player (horn) and above the player (tuba) so it bounces off surfaces around the room before reaching the audience. This gives them the capability to sound mysterious and distant.

@@NBH-xh3nq I knew this but, for anyone who doesn't know, pieces like The Rite of Spring actually make some of the F horns turn facing up to give a harsher sound to them. Just because an instrument is played a lot one way, doesn't mean you can't branch out, people!

Igor Stravinsky gives NO MERCY to any instrument in the orchestra. I’m a bass clarinetist learning the rite of spring with my group and this dude wrote the part so it switches between bass clef and treble clef.. almost every other bar.. When you learn bass clarinet, you are never taught how to read bass clef. So basically, I’m on my own with this LMAO Also, during the ritual of abduction, I know that he makes the tuba play just as high as this. So high, many people think it’s a euphonium playing

I can't believe I missed this comment. It takes strength. Just like trying to deadlift 500lbs. You can't just do it, you have to work up to it every week. Eventually one day, you will be strong enough. Pick the scale that will bring you to your highest but also most solid note you can play. Play that scale a few times at least 3 days a week and soon you'll find the notes just above that to be more achievable. Then just keep working it up higher and higher with slightly higher scales.
