Commentators were acting like it was close and competitive. It was not. Petr was dominating him, and the illegal knee blessed Aljamain sterling with a rematch.

Cheap shot . Who knows how this shot will affect Him later. We see the initial shot n leave it at that. I don't see it that simple. He should be suspended. Petr even raised His hand to add insult to injury. As per the scorecards , Petr's title was in jeopardy. The challenger was ahead on 1 card n a point behind on 2 cards. With the illegal knee , The challenger is now ahead on 1 card with 2 even entering the last round . I vote for a suspension.

Proper translation: - P., could you just give us your immediate reaction to your fight with A.S.? - You saw everything yourselves, I understand that I made a mistake against the rules and surely I wouldn’t wish to do it deliberately, I was focused on his hands position. Before the fight, the referee came and told me about the hands position, which should be when I can or can’t hit. I was obsessed with his hands position, so I noticed it only after I had already hit him. - There was some discussion on the broadcast by commentators that may be one of your corner had said: Hit him! Hit him! And that’s why you did, did you hear anything from your corner that made you to throw that knee? - Honestly, I didn’t understand what they were saying. I was focused more on his hands, when he took them off the ground. Probably one can see in the video that he took his hands off. I couldn’t see that he leaned on his knee; I thought he was in the squat stand. - When you saw A. go down, did you immediately realize, it was illegal knee? - No, I didn’t understand it instantly. I saw that his hands were off the canvas, and thought that I did everything correctly, I couldn’t notice that one of the knees was on the ground. - Do you believe that A. could continue fighting? - I don’t know, it was better seen from your side, he can tell better as well. But you saw that I had been winning the fight. - Do you believe, you should have lost the world title, and if not what is it like to lose it in this way? - It is a shame, it is a pity, but I think that he, as such a fighter, in such a fight, he would not accept the belt, and if we could have a rematch and he is healthy, so I would have a rematch in the nearest future. - Thanks for coming to talk to us. - P. right here, have you had the opportunity to talk to Dana White, or anyone from A.’s team to talk after this performance, after this fight? - No, I didn’t talk to anyone. Eric approached me, shook my hand and we dispersed in different directions. - What did you make of A. taking the belt and leaving it in the octagon when he left, he didn’t want to wear it, as he didn’t think he had deserve the title? - Honestly, I didn’t see it. But if he did that he, basically, understands that he had been losing the fight, and to win the belt this way of the world’s most prestigious organization is, how to put it, not respectful. - P., I was wondering can you talk about your performance leading up to the moment, because it seems like your defends, the fact that he could not connect, it was starting to catch up to him, he was starting to get tired and you was starting to be more effective as the fight went on? - Yes, of course. I had a plan to tease him during the first rounds, put pressure on him, but keep the distance, to let him work, kick a lot, lose the energy. And in the later rounds to do my job. - He tried to do several things: spinning back elbow, the flying knee, obviously trying to wrestle you. Did anything surprise you, and if anything were, did you feel like you were doing a great job defending everything? - No, basically, everything was anticipated, we knew what he was going to do: wrestle, throw those dangerous hits. Basically, I tried to take his back and didn’t allow him to throw elbows, or anything else. - Because there is a question, did your coaches tell you something else, to be clear for the record, both you and your team know that the downed opponent is an illegal strike, correct? - Sure. If his knee was standing on the canvas it was against the rules from my side. I didn’t mean to do it intentionally. You know the belt is on the line and to do such mistake intentionally - is unacceptable. - Thank you, P. - There was a point at the end of the fight when they were calling the winner, you raised your hand, did you know at that point that you had lost the belt, or did you think that there was may be a no contest. Eventually, put your hand down, but did you, at that point, think you still had a chance of maintaining the belt? - Yes, this is the thing, that I think could happen, that the fight would be no contest. - And lastly, especially with the performance leading up to that point, when the fight was stopped, you were very-very, I think, dominating, I think, were wearing him down, it seems that a rematch should be what is given, would you be upset, if the UFC didn’t go the route and give you an immediate rematch with him? - Yes, of course I would be very upset if there is no rematch. But now I am still not less upset. - Thank you for coming back.

What kind of question is “did you land that knee intentionally”? He was winning the fight and was in a dominant position at the time. Why would he intentionally do that? It is pretty clear he landed that knee because he thought that Aljo was getting up and his knee did not touch the ground. Yan was looking down on Sterling and was only able to see his hands, from that position he did not see that Aljo’s knee was still on the ground. He saw Aljo lifted his hands from the ground, assumed that he was getting up and at that moment landed the knee. Was that knee intentional? Absolutely. Because he did not think Aljo was grounded at the moment.
