Yeah, you said it. And ironically Tom meets the only one person who caught his true self without desire of running away. Was the idea of finally reach happiness too unbearable for him?? We'll never know. Definitely true between the two.

That was the entire point of the film. "The Talented Mr. Ripley" He's a pretender ~ his talent. It's a very complex film and one of my favorites.

Tom never loved anyone. He just used them.

Tom is a sociopath and Dick was probably one too, but Peter was just such a nice, normal guy. Tom definitely did not deserve him.

Just saw the film for the first time, I must say left me speechless. A brilliant yet tragic ending, insane performance by everyone not to mention the cast in this film was just perfect. Just one of the best films I've seen to date.

This edit is just a masterpiece..and then i think about the ending of the movie and my heart hurts

I’m so upset. I had to read this book for a class in university (I’m an English minor). And they really played up the chemistry between these two characters in the movie. And it’s such a good romance. Toxic, but good. And I’m so angry at the change they made where Tom *spoiler* kills Peter. Because I really hated Freddie. And I hated dickie. But Peter was a good guy. He meant well and loved Tom. And the fact that Tom ruined what could have been at least somewhat of a good thing for him by killing Peter was the last straw. The movie itself was spectacular, one of the best I’ve seen, but it was frustrating as all hell to watch Tom throw away the one good thing he had left when he could’ve gotten away and started a life with Peter (despite his guilt and previous murders).

BIG SPOILER ALERT this movie would've been SO MUCH better if Tom (blonde guy) didn't kill Peter (brunette guy). He could've just explained everything to Peter and Peter would've probably understood? But then again, it's not easy to get rid of your psychopathic tendencies.

I can't agree with you. Indeed, when Peter thought Dickie killed Freddie, he said to Tom "Can you imagine, if Dickie did kill Freddie, what must that be like? To wake up every morning, how can you? Just wake up and be a person, drink your coffee... ?" and later he added, about being a murderer "But you're still tormented, you must be, you've killed someone...". Even if Dickie was Peter's friend (there was a time he even was a very close friend to him, according to Marge in the first half of the movie), he made it very clear that being a murderer is morally unacceptable. I'm sure Peter loved Tom more than anyone else, but he wouldn't be able to bear the idea of loving a murderer... Plus, what he loved the most about Tom is his kindness. How could Peter still love him if he realised he was far from being nice?

i keep coming back to this edit... i really wish they ended up together

The ending made sick. I was soobing...it just so sad. Peter deserved better and Tom trapped himself in hell. In the end he really choose to be someboy fake than a real nobody...a real and loved nobody.

It’s so strange I think that in the end if Tom did end up telling peter he was a murderer, Peter would still be in love with him, it’s so weird, I imagine peter sitting next to a crying Tom comforting him for all his wrongs while at the same time wondering why he still wants to keep comforting Tom and hide his darkest secrets...it’s as if peter loved tom regardless of anything the first time he met Tom. In the end Peter would take all the blame for Tom whilst giving him the worst pain realizing that Tom would become an even worse killer in a world without Peter.

Tom Odell's wonderful song seems almost to be made for this scene, although it came more than 10 years later that the movie..

Didn’t know of this movie until seeing thing and then I finally watch this. It interesting to see how peter and Tom had a relationship where Tom kinda wanna to reveal every thing. Wonder what would have happen if he meet him before the murders.

This is the type of relationship that i want: just pure wholesomeness and love with my significate other.

watch this movie because of this video and I spent all the time waiting for them to kiss and I did not regret having seen it

God I was SO hurt and numb when Tom killed Peter. I hated Cate Blanchett (she happens to be one of my favorite actresses) AND her character for weeks afterwards. 😁😁I don't think there was ever a time in a movie I rooted for the villain to find love to the extent I did when it came to Mr. Ripley.
