I completely agree with you...... the sense of loss...... that's so sad.
Patrick losing his stability in the world when he gets fired and arrested absolutely kills me. His character is so easy to love and his composure through all of the danger and loss he's encountered makes you marvel at the character's strength and resiliency. (This is echoed later on when Tom's wife tells him she thinks Patrick is failing but he can pull through, essentially if he could just have Tom's love again.) Younger Patrick thrives with humility through an impossibly constrictive existence, and then he loses everything he has for no reason- it makes you detest our history. Definitely one of the most heartbreaking plotlines for an endearing character that I have ever seen. David Dawson is utterly enchanting. I've heard people speak critically of Harry Styles, and I can't understand that because I also think his acting in this film is exquisitely nuanced and poignant. David's charismatic warmth pulls you into the undertow of sharp realities and Harry breaks your heart with his natural innocence and passion. The dynamic between the two of them has an excruciating depth- their characters' vulnerabilities are expertly juxtaposed with the cruel injustice of their fate. I love this movie because it doesn't over-explain everything. It asks you to realize what's unsaid by feeling through everything. If you appreciate the special kind of complicated, realistic heartbreak in My Policeman, you might also like The Cakemaker and Summerland- two other films which I feel have some of that same complexity.
david's eyes are expressive as hell!! i love him

I enjoyed this movie but hated the ending because of how true it is for older gays how they had to live a complete lie or else they’d be abused or worse. Looking cool.😊
I can't explain the pain and beauty in this film. It just is insane to think it's impossible for men or woman to love each other the same as man and woman do. They loved each other deeply. I think Tom was bisexual he wanted Patrick and Marion but Patrick loved for Tom and only Tom. 40 years of not seeing someone but loving them the same as from the beginning is wild. Dealing with the effects of a stroke not being able to care for yourself being in the same house as the love of your life and unable to see them is wild. Hearing what is said about you amongst the love of your life and his wife is crazy hearing his voice and not being able to see him or talk to him. Not knowing what he looks like after 40 yrs . My heart hurts 😢. Marion knew he loved Patrick and Tom couldn't bring himself to say it from the shame. He was alive when they were together. Tom was so innocent at times.
İlk defa böyle bir yorum yazıyorum. Kendimi durduramadim. The Boys adlı filminizi yeni izledim ve bayıldım. Uzun zamandır böyle efsanevi birşey izlememiştim. Karl Urban ve Antony Starr in hayranıyım artık Antony Starr rolünde aşırı başarılıydı Kendisine gelen hiçbir kötü yorumu haketmedi.

I agree with you. It's so devastating because all three of them were victims of society's judgement and biases, and it's easy to say Tom could have just been single and left Marion out of it, but it was an incredibly terrifying time, so he felt compelled to try to make it work with a woman. Patrick is my favourite because he was an incredibly brave man, through and through.

Bethan Roberts wrote this from the perspective of a redeemed woman. In reality, Marion was dastardly to the end. She never redeemed herself. She deserved no redemption arc. She was wretched the entire story.
@whyarepeoplethewaythattheyare
Жыл бұрын
She was a young woman who was tricked, betrayed, and made to feel like she was being treated like a fool! She did an awful thing - no question about that, but I think her bringing Patrick to live with them was her trying to make amends. It began then, before she even knew the depths of Tom and Patrick's relationship. I also understand her reading Patrick's diary because Tom was never forthcoming, and she had to find out the truth somehow. We can love the boys while still finding sympathy for the woman who was tricked (unintentionally, but that's irrelevant as it resulted in her wasting her life with someone who was never hers).
I hate Russian version of the film because when I was watching it i felt that some scenes may be missing AND THAT WAS TRUE. Watching this video now I see so many scenes that were just cut off the film for Russians. My country is so homophobic
