There are not too many true geniuses throughout history but Peter Sellers is definitely one in the field of comedy. Just an extraordinary human being.

Amazing how many interviews he did and how new ones are continously turning up over the years here on KZread.

Peter was one of a kind. Often imitated, but NEVER duplicated.

Much has been written about Peter Sellar's lack of a personality and the decline of his mental health after a string of heart attacks (overtaken with an obsession in astrology, superstition, and spiritualism), but as I've seen in multiple KZread interviews from the 1970s, he was a terrific interview subject; humble with no ego, very conversational, and an excellent sense of humor. (Sellars' comment on meeting Stan Laurel and his assessment of Laurel's life are pretty poignant.)

My favorite Peter Seller's character is the movie "Being There". What a superb performane. The out takes are just as good, too.

Love that interview he gave on parkinson! The characters he did and the stories he told. So funny. Michael parkinson was in fits of laughter. A master story teller.

Dr.Strangelove - the character and the movie - is at the highest level, with Keaton, Chaplin, Groucho and his brothers, whomever… I bet God watches them over and over and feels better about herself.

With great respect and admiration for Mr Sellers, I am an ardent fan of (mostly) his radio work, eg. Goons, I strongly disagree that humour is essentially international. There is no other like Dads Army, for example, only the British could take the p*ss out of what was a serious situation and make it hilariously funny. Another example: Last of the Summer Wine. British to the bone! Okay, the Americans copied Till Death Us Do Part, and The Office, with debatable success, but I will nearly always gravitate toward 'British' humour, such as it was before puerile, potty-mouthed material elbowed its way into view and hearing.

Puerile, potty-mouthed stuff is as much a part of British humour as any other.

Yes, you're probably right. Some humour can be international no doubt, especially visual humour I guess. But as you say quite a lot of British humour does not transfer easily, or in some cases at all, to different cultures.
