Peter Lindbergh - Linda Evangelista from Model to Supermodel

Tribute to Peter Lindbergh (1944-2019). He was responsible for making Linda Evangelista a household Supermodel. He suggested she cut her hair short during the late 80s and the rest was history.

If I recall correctly, I think Peter's biggest muses were Linda and Tatjana, both who I consider the best 90s models when it comes to photographing, though Kristen, Nadja and Kate are up there too. Linda because she was obviously very photogenic and versatile, and Tatjana because she had this amazing bone structure and intense hypnotic gaze of that left you feeling burned by cold ice. But out of them Tatjana really seemed to have a very close relationship with him. If you read her IG posts, she really seemed to have been deeply affected and shocked by his sudden passing. They were both German, and he was the first photographer she worked with when she first came to Paris from Sweden. Peter appreciated the raw and natural beauty in women, and I think Tatjana really liked him for that. He was a photographer who prefered realism over romanticism. There was hardly any photoshop in his photos, and all of them were shot in black and white. What you are left is with a minimalistic yet timeless and clasic image that doesn't distract the eye from the raw emotions of people.

They had a great relationship Peter and Tatjana. She was certainly one of his muses, which then led to Tatjana meeting Herb Ritts and then becoming a muse for him also.

@@sexypara Herb Ritts has got to be one of, if not, my all time favorite fashion photographer. He combined the elements of nature, especially water, with human nudity in such a beautiful and poetic way. He manages to capture the human body in its rawest and most sexual state without being vulgar, and juxtapose that with natural settings to show how humans are most beautiful in their natural state. Some of Tatjana's best pictures are shot by him. Especially love the one where she plays a forest nymph, laying naked and vulnerable by the side of a tree. Also love the one where she is at a beach, laying down with sand particles on her face, and she looks like she is slowly dying but in the most serene-like death, amidst the harsh climate of the roaring waves in the beach. The contrast of the environment with the focus on the human emotion is so breathtaking. Not to mention the quality and timelessness of his black and white stills that carry a warm tint of red and yellow. Also love the one where Tatjana is is covered by a veil, looking like a sophisticated widow, and another one where she looks like an Amazonian goddess wearing a tropical crown. And, of course, gotta love the one with her and Christy looking like two sisters left lost and vulernable in the middle of a calm ocean, almost as if they are Poseidon's daughter whom were exiled by his wrath. Some of Cindy, Stephanie, Christy, Helena, Carla, Naomi, and Claudia's best high fashion moments were also shot by Herb Ritts. Surprised that he didn't work as much with Linda. I don't think she was one of his muses, considering Herb seemed to enjoy working with models who had bodies of sculpted Greek gods and goddesses, which, I think, Linda kinda lacked, though surprisingly Tatjana too. Some of my all time favorite music videos were also shot by Herb himself, such as Mariah Carey's My All, Michael Jackson's In the Closet (featuring Naomi Campbell), Chris Isaak's Wicked Game (featuring Helena Christensen), and Bon Jovi's Please Come Home for Christmas (featuring Cindy Crawford). It is very sad that he passed away too soon. The newer generation of models will never know what it is like to create true classic and iconic images with such a master of visual art.

I was walking on the Foch avenue, Paris, in 1992, I think. Linda was with 2 others models. We crossed. And then, I figured out who she was. I turned back. She did so, also ! We stared at each other for may be 1 second. And we moved forwards. in our opposite directions. At the time, she was "the most beautiful, most desirable " woman on earth. That glimpse, was , oh boy, good for my ego! Take care , Linda 😍. And thank you.
