She’s so underrated! Why is she not more real known?

I know Helena personally, and know her from those days as well. She is a lovely human being , extremely kind and sweet to everyone . As a fashion knowledgeable person I can attest that the reason she wasn’t more famous than what she actually was , was because despite being beautiful Helena never ever looked really young(even when she was or lettuce fresh either) . Meaning, she was never used to attract the young . She always looked regally adult and sophisticated . There was nothing next -door about her, more Next -World maybe...What she undisputedly was , is a mega glamorous , polished , regal and haute grand presence on the highest of haute runways . She was also a fashion insider loved model when there were none. She never walked important mega media followed shows like CHANEL or Versace. She almost never was featured in the American fashion magazines either . She never walked the tongue in cheek mega media followed issac Mizrahi show in America . However she walked the almost cult-like and super tough to break in GEOFFREY BEENE show , did Galliano, but not Galliano’s DIOR , but Gianfranco Ferré´s indeed yes. Todd Oldham´s fun filled extravaganzas too. I’ve always said that the designers that passed on her for their shows lost big time, no matter how big the designer , and to me is unexplainable that she fell off the late LAGERFELD’S radar , given that Karl was a model freak and she had it all . Her walk is among the most beautiful and regal EVER to set foot on a runway ...as great as that of the other great walker Yasmeen Ghauri .

You forgot if I may because I was working at the fashion studio as a designer back then in the 90's that it's Mister Manfred Thierry Mugler who discovered her and she did her first show for him and many many shows after and you said she's lovely human being, I attest, she was, she was my favorite with Yasmine Ghauri at the Mugler and she was always very kind, I was responsable among other things of the jewelry's and she was the only at the shows for who I would create and made special jewelry for her as a gift and she was sooooo kind and adorable.

i have never seen a supermodel who is so versatile. so into character. it's like a different person every time she walks. and she has one of the best walk too.. i cant believe i have never heard of her before. and she looks super tall. and also very classy and gorgeous.

Wow. She turned walking into an artform! And those eyebrows! Perfection. 🙌🏽

Yeah. She does give me a glamarous telenovela villainess vibe with her exaggerated eyebrows. Love it. Btw, I love Maria Callas. She is the quintessential Medea for me.

Helena was the girl w flavor! She served it up at every show. A staple on the runway for over a decade no catwalk was complete w/o her edgy presence. The camera loved her! As did designers, photographers and fashion stylists around the world. Often considered underrated, but no. She was celebrated in every fashion capital for her exuberant personality and her exemplary professionalism. Loved and adored by millions the world over.

I love her!❤️ She is one of those 90's Supermodel with a fierce walk. She's also very stunning. She's definitely in the Top 10 Best 90's Supermodel Walk. These are my list: Naomi Campbell, Yasmeen Ghauri, Helena Barquilla, Karen Mulder, Sonia Cole, Angelika Kalllio, Nadège du Bospertus, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Mason, and Tyra Banks. ❤️❤️❤️

@@lissandrafreljord7913 Yo are right Gurmit was AMAZING on the runway however on my taste as a fashion designer I wouldn't put Angelika Kalilio or Nadège on the same list. They didn't non of them and I use to work at the Mugler Studio, had the same fierce walk than Yasmine or Helena, in the 9O's the model agency's would teach the models how to walk (and it was Jay Alexander work before being a judge on Tyra to teach them how to walk, another lovely person). which they don't anymore because today they the girls to look "modern" on the runway, a world that doesn't mean anything tom me.

Super elegant and sensual,better then the best catwalk models, honestly, she really know how to walk. Looks like a mix between Monica Bellucci and Linda Evangelista

I never knew her name but I recognize her face. Always in the top shows in NYC, Paris and Milan. Versatile and fierce!

These two LADIES Helena and Yasmeen definitely should have paired up together cause they both are/we're exotic BEAUTIES THAT HAD RAW TALENT ON WORKING THE CATWALK. STYLE, SWAY, CONFIDENCE AND PROWESS LIKE A LIONESS IN CHARGE. KNOWING JUST WHAT THE AUDIENCE (BUYERS) WANTED. SUPERMODEL IS COOL, BUT THAT'S A TITLE. BEING NATURAL AND REAL AND WORKING THE ADVANTAGES MAKES FOR A SUPERB MODEL AND HELENA, YASMEEN, NAOMI, LINDA AND CINDY COINED THE ART OF MODELING OF SURE INNER SOUL AND SELF WORTH.

I love her iconic/signature "look to the left".

I don't mean to sound nitpicky but Spanish only means "from Spain" when it comes to people. Americans wrongly use "Spanish" sometimes to refer to Latin Americans, when they should be saying "Hispanic", which means someone with cultural ties to the Spanish-speaking world.

I agree. She seemed to perform the Mugler characters with great gusto. Another example is the black business suit with a cigar by Mugler couture fall 95.

The 90s had surpringly a decent amount of Latina models that sadly went under the radar. Gisele Zelauy, Valeria Mazza, Ines Rivero, Patricia Velasquez, Astrid Muñoz. Christy Turlington and Helena Christensen were also half Latina from their mom's side, Christy being Salvadoran and Helena being Peruvian, though nationality-wise they are American and Danish respectively. Also Brandi Quiñones was an American model of Puerto Rican descent.
