@@HydraulicJack But they are infiltrated by communists. There are some true conservatives in there, but there are a bunch of imposters in there as well. If we vote for the imposters we get communists and if Labour win those seats then we get communists. Either there is a true conservative leader saves the party, or the true conservatives leave for a new alternative party where they can make a stand. To save the party, firstly there has to be a true conservative leader, and second, there have to be enough true conservatives to vote in that leadership candidate. Can those two conditions be met?

Always interested to hear Peter, but I think he underestimates the positive changes PR could bring. There is unlikely to be a unified left or unified right under PR, it's more likely to mean a return to the centre. (Assuming the Tories haven't wiped out the middle class in the interim). Would also remove the imbalance that extremist factions like the ERG have been able to exploit. More coalitions = more representative democracy. And hopefully, elimination of the elected autocrat approach we have now, although there are cultural factors involved as far as UK is concerned, including the class system. It's probably too late to stop now, but PR would have been much more likely to preserve the Union.

Also strange that 'socialist' Germany has held up its economy and in particular its exports much better than the UK both during the pandemic and otherwise while in the meantime the UK is a long way down than pre Brexit/pre covid. Also PR has not produced 'parties of the left' but has kept a sensible middle ground where businesses have thrived and less people live on the streets or out of food banks, unlike the UK.

Cameron and Johnson have caused more damage to The UK than any leader in recent history - Cameron for calling a ridiculous vote and Johnson for leading a propaganda Brexit campaign. Let’s also not forget the pedantic and inept Theresa May - she had no obligation whatsoever to go ahead with the disastrous result of a referendum that was ill timed - as a distraction for his unpopularity and to appease the right wing of the party - and voted by a mostly uninformed public.
