Had to come on here to say what an outstanding human being is Peter Gabriel. The lamb is 50 yrs today and was a revelation as to how music can literally change your life. Long live Peter Gabriel

I remember PG saying years ago that signed/famous/professional/superstar musicians aren't necessarily extraordinarily talented; just fortunate. What a class act... 🎼 🇺🇸

How can you not love Peter Gabriel? I’ve been a fan since the genesis days, my enthusiasm for his work and politics and various contributions (such as kickstarting the careers of some great West African musicians) is unflagging to this day.

Imagine Peter Gabriel telling you that you're a great songwriter!

Not much on award ceremonies. Neither would I imagine is Peter. But his humility and natural state of grace is inspirational. Whenever he speaks, I listen.

Thanks for never forgetting about Genesis, Pete.

@Peter Gabriel I'm actually Gianmaria which is sort of like John-Mary, so I'm a... man. 😀 It's an Italian name, my dad's from there, I'm hence part Italian and part Scottish. How am I doing after receiving your attention? Needless to say! It's nice meeting you too here, by gosh... Came to your gigs ever since May 1993 in Rome, never missed a chance from then on, I also came up to Milan in 2003 and ended up on the DVD....... I'd LOVE to meet and greet you, just a handshake and a few words, I don't need anything else really. Hope I'll make it!

Such an eloquent and humble speech. So inclusive of those who surround him. So bloody cool to see Chris Martin. It’s been years since that induction and yet it feels like today when I watch it. Peter is truly the very coolest... Again, way cool to see Chris. He’s everything; like Peter. Both are so rich in sheer talent...

A well deserved award, what an amazing artist. I’ve been fascinated by his work since I heard San Jacinto on my older brothers record player when I was 12. PG has been my musical soulmate ever since. Long may he continue.

Chris Martin looks totally caught off guard by Peter Gabriel's compliment.

Simply, Peter is one of our gods. I became familiar with him, as most of us did, with the early records of Genesis. Then I was lucky enough (and smart enough?) to see Peter's first NYC performance after leaving Genesis. Three hundred people standing in a hotel ballroom (there were no chairs) thrilled by what we were seeing and hearing. And I simply want to say, Thank you Peter; we are blessed to have you on Earth in our time.

As a child, I always saw him as somebody who had somewhat of an ego. But was able to somehow keep his ego in check. Thanks for the decades of awesome music.

Every time someone of PG caliber in any field gets up and talks about the important things, they always, always, mention the love and SUPPORT of their parents/parent and as someone who can remember so, so many dreams of who I could be or who I wanted to be smashed out of existence by the abuse I suffered at the hands of my parents. As an old man, I can only say I tried as much as I could with the limit knowledge i had. I am going to die alone and broke, just like my parent always said I would form the second I was born.

His music holds an almost spiritual place in my heart. He is a big part of the soundtrack of my life.

Peter never gave up drumming entirely. During the early 70s Genesis concerts he would stand behind a bass drum and bang away. One of my all time favourite artists.

to me?....Gabriel is RIGHT THERE with Prince and Stevie Wonder, when you talk about a kind of talent that is in its own very small group. Those 3, are my Holy Trinity.

The greatest artist in music ever, should be called PG hall of fame.

wow, I had never listened to this speech until now. How wonderful. He is so talented and accomplished, yet is so respectful and humble. what he says at the end is so very true about music. :-)

That holding the trophy in the air with hands a bit together at the beginning - I think it's a throwback, classic self-satirized version of the act he would put on in a bodysuit for audiences in the early 70s, like pretending to bask in the applause? like oh wow, a trophy! that would be funny and true to form.
