I got the rare treat of seeing Frampton in Louisville, KY playing three-piece! The story was the drummer was sick, so instead of canceling the show, the keyboardist played drums. When it came time for the big piano solo, Frampton slipped up to the drums and started beating on the floor tom while the piano player got up to run down to do his solo. Honestly, Peter Frampton is a decent drummer!

I got to see Peter a couple of years ago. He closed the show with I don't need no doctor, he played Phenix. Full circle, it was a beautiful thing. BTW Phenix is a '54.

I learned all the solos on Frampton Comes Alive note-for-note when I was a kid. He was a big influence on my guitar playing!

I heard an interview with Peter Frampton where he said previous to this story about adding acoustic with George to several ALL THINGS MUST PASS tracks he had been in the studio with George who was producing I think it was Doris Troy for APPLE WHO ASKED HIM TO PLAY LEAD GUITAR ON A TRACK for that recording. Anyway the George story is true for sure.

Framptons best solo album was his first simply called Frampton,Wind of Change, bought it brand new in 1972 and still play it..his Jumping Jack Flash cover on it ,for me ,is the definitive take on the song.

The Sgt Pepper's movie really was a travesty. I remember going into the theater with my friend to see it, and we walked out about a half hour into it. It was terrible. I tried watching it years later and confirmed we didn't miss anything.

I'll never forget my sister buying the 'Performance - Live At The FIllmore' album in the spring of 72. I'd been a huge music fan most of my life but was still only 11 at the time. Up until 1972 I listened to the stuff that was more 'top 40' oriented, heavier stuff didn't do anything for me. Then 'Black Dog' came out in early 72 and I thought it was the greatest song ever. Soon after that my sister bought the Humble Pie live album. Initially we went nuts over 'I Don't Need No Doctor' - I can remember our dad saying 'would someone please get him a doctor, there's something wrong with him!'. Our parents HATED that album. It didn't take me long to discover the rest of the songs. My music world was drastically starting to change. Fast forward, I went to see Johnny Winter in May of 1975 at Cobo Hall. James Cotton opened, then Frampton played, then Johnny. I wasn't very familiar with Frampton's solo work at that time. I wasn't at one of the shows where he recorded 'Comes Alive' but I'm asusming it was basically the same show. I do remember hm being really good, but I'll admit I was really there to see Johnny. Peter does come off as being a great, very friendly, down to earth guy. I always enjoy his interviews.

I was never a big Frampton fan. I agree he was very good at what he did and deserved all the accolades he received. I was buying somebody else’s albums at the time. Nonetheless, I enjoyed learning more about him because I sure did love Humble Pie. I also loved that Gibson Black Beauty. Thanks, Otis!

i thought "i'm in you" was great and while i have only seen parts of "sgt. pepper's" film, being in a dreadful movie shouldn't end your career. i liked humble pie also and think he's remarkably cool. thanks.

I grew up in the erra where Frampton was a punchline. I don't think anyone has gone from punchline to Legend quite like Peter. He and Mark Knofler hold a special place in my heart because of the arc they took in my own musical journey.

I have followed Frampton throughout his entire career, beginning with Humble Pie. I finally got to see him live at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in 2005. I was less than twenty feet from the stage and I was blown away. His style of play is as unique as anyone. Yeah, he made some questionable decisions in his career, but hey, who hasn't. He was never a joke to me.

I LOVED that movie! Strawberry Fields dies, Billy Preston saves the day, "Get Back!" and resurrects her! I cried!

My old buddy Bill DeMain just kicking ass here. Outrageous.

Took me a while to realize how good Frampton is. Great.

I can relate to getting back an old guitar. I sold my D28 in 1985 to a friend. He move 4 times over 3 states and contacted me in 2005. Would you like to get your guitar back?.... I've had now almost 20 years and I took it to 400 gigs and jam sessions °

I've watched a bunch of Whitlock's videos. They're really entertaining, and he seems ike a great guy, but something tells me his memory is a bit 'selective', or howeveer you want to put it. I can't see why Frampton would make anything like that up. Whitlock says he was always there at every session, but how could he really remember everything about all of it? It sure seems like there would have been times where he wasn't around for some things.

Pete Drake played the pedal steel on that song, and I think that might have been where he and Frampton met. He's the guy who turned Frampton on to the talk box. There's a great video where he and Frampton both talk about that.

is that in a video? I don't know your story, but If GH was doing overdubs alone to get these nineteen guitar tracks and enlisted PF to help with that, someone who was in the band in the main session might not know about it?

I don't think Bobby and Peter were there at the same time. Bobby did all the basic tracks with Eric Clapton, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon (Derek and the Dominos), but Peter was tracking acoustics with George as well as steel guitarist Pete Drake, where Peter first heard a talk box.

Maybe the best thing to come out of the Sergeant Pepper movie was Earth Wind and Fire’s version of “Got to Get You Into My Life”.

OMG ,,, I have a guitar that was stolen from Hollywood in 1982… I bought it for $300… It is the most amazing tiger striped 345 2-f-holes pick up stereo output with a varitone… Wow what a great story.. if anybody knows anything about this guitar, I would like to return it to the rightful owner.. it was supposedly hot rotted by the famous Valdez guitar workshop… I love this guitar… But at the same time, I would love to give it back to the rightful owner

It was said around the A&M office in NYC back in the day that originally they were going to pass on releasing that 1st album in America. Ultimately the decision to release it was explained that he’d made a lot of $$ for the company with Humble Pie so as a “thank you” they’d release Winds of Change in the US.

A friend of Peter's from San Francisco gave it to him when Humble Pie played the Fillmore.

Phil Spector was creepy as fk. I mean his albums were amazing with the Ronettes and that. But the guy was a crazy psychopath. Poor Ronnie Spector, she was lucky to escape from him. I remember reading her autobiography when I was a young teenager. He liked to threaten people with a gun in their faces, and obviously he got put away for murdering someone with a gun. The guy was a lunatic.

I hope the kid got a nice guitar out of it..😩

If you listen to the studio songs which were put onto Comes Alive you realize that Frampton was a really bad producer. He sucked the life from the songs and made them sterile. The live album really brought them to life and they "came alive". One of the best rock live albums of all time.

Hi OTIS, great story and I was a fan of Humble Pie where I knew about Framton and what great artist he was in that band and by the time he played with Harrison on all things must pass ALBUM, I thought he was good . When went solo , the music was a little bubble gum for my taste , but going forward in year's, I learned to enjoy the work and he was one of the first to use that funky voice thing he blew into , along with Joe Walsh , which was really funky at the time. Love ya OTIS and keep them coming with these great bits of history , that would be lost forever with out folks like you.
