Peter and the Wolf | Sergei Prokofiev, arr. Wind Quintet
Музыка
This performance was created through Yale School of Music's chamber program during the 2020 fall semester. Due to COVID pandemic restrictions on in-person playing for wind instruments, this project is extra unique: all audio and video was recorded remotely, and as a newly formed group, we never had the chance to play together, or even meet in-person.
We hope you enjoy this special performance!

Wonderful ❤❤
I am 88 years old and remember in the Third Grade in Wichita, Kansas, we were taken by bus to the East High School Auditorium for an orchestral performance that included Peter And The Wolf. I was enchanted, and had a crush on the Harpist, who was positioned on the left side of the orchestra near where I was sitting - beautiful lady with a big smile for us children. That must have been in 1945. I have such fond memories of that day and have remembered the experience as one of the most memorable of my childhood. Today I have a wonderful relationship with classical music, and I introduce children to Peter And The Wolf whenever possible.

That's wonderful. I have similar memories. Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories.
I am 67 years old and when I was a girl in the 1960s , my Dad introduced me to “Peter and the Wolf” to teach me about musical instruments and how they sound. He even took me to a concert of “Peter and the Wolf”. That is a beautiful memory with my Dad of my childhood. Now, I introduced “Peter and the Wolf” to my 3 years old grandson , he recognizes the music.

MY Mom had played the alto clarinet in her high-school, she could also play a saxophone the piano and drums... Me I tried to learn how to play a guitar when I was in my 20s... I only got as far as the G string when my co worker was put on a shift so he couldn't teach me any more... It was my mother who introduced me to classucal music ..My DAD and Uncles Jazz, Rock and Country...
Peter and the wolf scares me when i was a kid lol! So much memories..

Yea, I heard the wolf leitmotif the other day somewhere, and it reminded me of a distant (and scary) childhood memory, so I had to look this up.
This is one of those stories from being a kid that has enchanted me my whole life. It's magical

And what an adorable version we have here with just wind instruments !!! Even Peter's strings theme sound perfect ! Suggestive painted animals so artistic.
How does this not have more views??? If you're the type of parent that sticks their kid in front of cocomelon for an hour, this might not be something you seek out. But if your kid watches swan lake and the nutcracker, book read alouds, and old jazz videos, this is so perfect. The adorable simple animation, seeing each instrument represent a character so clearly... in case you wanted to know how high I was on my horse over here.

@@katiemurphy3601 amazon prime has the royal ballet nutcracker which is by far the best version. They show the orchestra a lot and and dancing is great. I think its $10. We had it on in the background for hours during Christmas and it was so nice!

Remember the times I would take my nap in front of the beautiful faux combo TV/STEREO!! TO THIS DAY, I'M NOW 60YO I cherish this memory..... and thanks mom.
I'm 71 years old & really enjoyed this very much. I loved the illustrations also. I was looking for my childhood favorite & just can't find it.
And just like that I’m 4 yrs old back in 1970, in pre-school, listening to this during nap time. I can remember being so captivated listening to how the instruments sounded like the animals. ☺️

My one year old dos not sit still... unless she's watching your fantastic rendition of Peter and the Wolf. Her favourite part is the bird, and she never hesitates to wave at it whenever it's flying about and "singing". Thank you for this amazing gift of music and animation that we can share together early in the morning while mum still sleeps!

I'm so proud of the students and my colleagues at Yale and impressed with how creatively everyone has adapted to this difficult year. Clarinetist Nikki Pet is the editor, sound engineer and animator, with guidance from Matt Lefevre, the Media Production Manager at the Yale School of Music. The musicians and narrator did a wonderful job coached by Ransom Wilson.

This is one of the best (and most creative) performances of this difficult piece I've heard and seen. The ensemble is extremely talented, and I have no idea of how they pulled this off performing remotely. Loved the narrator too. But OMG the animations. . . Nikki Pet is one talented person. So, so creative. Thank you so much for sharing your talents.

I remember this when I was five, I fell in love, I equated instruments and characters when I heard instrumental songs. I’m so great-full for my music/choir teacher’s introducing me to this beautiful world of instruments and all genres of music appreciation, that’s been over 15 years ago. Thank you for sharing your magic ❤️
This was so good, throwback to elementary school I listened to Peter and the Wolf and I just knew I had to play oboe for the rest of my life.
I had a cassette tape of this when I was a child. It took me to a magical world as a child and to this day its still beautiful to listen to. Thanks for sharing 🙏
My two year old and I listened to this version in the car for several weeks before watching the video. We immediately fell in love. The musical performance and narration are that strong and compelling. Then we watched the video and it became obvious this is the best version I’ve found. The animation provides just the right amount of movement and color but allows/encourages the child to complete the pictures in their mind instead of just zoning out. A masterpiece of music presented with the respect it deserves. Bravo.
This is fantastic!! My 4th graders will attend a live performance of PATW in Feb 2023 and I was looking for a fresh take on the score and absolutely LOVE the instrumental visuals and the updated look. Thank you!!!!!
Thank you for this beautiful and mesmerising masterpiece..I used to hear it as a child ...without animation at the time...and I have never forgotten it. I'm so happy to find it here, so beautifully rendered. I watched it now with my 5-year-old daughter who absolutely loved it
My little brother came home from first grade and begged me to play this video for him! Amazing work!
Just discovered this jewelry you have made not only musically relevant but the animation is amazing, so warm and childish so lovely congratulations to you all!
I remember watching this on VHS when I was in school aged about 5. I was transfixed! This was my introduction to classical music. I’m 35 now and I play piano, go to the opera and today I was learning Paganini’s 24th Caprice 💙
Me and my kids loved this! We studied this for our music lesson since we homeschool.
Through many years teaching early childhood, I have helped to inspire children to appreciate musical interpretation using this work. Finally, I have the ideal resource for future lessons thanks to this performance that beautifully combines all of the elements that lend themselves to the child's imagination! Bravo!!!

This was perfect as a culmination lesson! Perfect length and I loved that my 1st grade students could see each instrument being played next to the character. Bravo!
I absolutely adore this. Thank you for recording and uploading it!
SO many childhood memories.
This is so wonderful. I have a 4 year old daughter, and she can't stop listening to it. Now she'll sing one of the lines and ask me which character it is. Congratulations to you all on pulling this together so beautifully, especially during the pandemic.

Give all credit for a wonderful performance. The clarinetist gives a light touch and expression in that instruments lower registers that very often come across as the heavy fog horn. May all have bright futures!

This is great! I was looking/hoping for a new version to show my students this year and this will be the one! Thank you! :)
Believe it or not, I found this performance while taking a class on beat-making by ill.Gates. In my 50 years, I don’t think I’d heard the story. A very good lesson in sounds/instruments as characters in a narrative. This particular one has great performances all around, and wonderful animation! Kind of a 1970s Charles Shultz vibe. Loved it!
I love Peter and the Wolf and absolutely loved your performance and the video animation! Simply amazing! 💖

In Brooklyn, NY summer camp we listened to Peter and the Wolf on the phonograph. We also watched the red balloon
BRAVO! To Yale's Chamber group for their version of Prokofiev's story and music. I had my doubts, big doubts. How could this piece be performed without strings?? But I was quickly and easily assured of authenticity and so impressed. I can't wait to share this video with my 2 1/2 yr old grandaughter! Thank you so much, one and all!
They used to sit us down at primary school to listen to this all sat on the floor before "home time". 1970
I'm so glad to be able to listen to this.i am waiting for surgery now and it's very calming.
New Haven Public School Music Teacher Here- thanks for the great video!
I'm so sad these five amazing musicians never got the chance to play in person together. This project is wonderfully put together from video recordings, colored illustrations, and the narrator's "black and white silent movies" narration slides.
This was my favorite as a kid and I love when it pops back on my head ❤

A truly beautiful and absolutely spectacular arrangement of this amazing piece!! Beautifully played by you all!! I love listening to woodwind which is my favourite part of the orchestra. I play flute, oboe, soprano and alto saxophone and a little clarinet, and it really has been a joy for me to watch and listen to this arrangement of "Peter and the Wolf"!! I'm especially enjoying playing my oboe at the moment, which is a fairly new thing as I took it up just over a year ago on my birthday!! I would love to find the sheet music for the oboe part of Peter and the Wolf, I would love to learn it, so I will be having a good hunt to see if I can find it anywhere. God bless you all fabulous musicians!! Pure class and talent all round. XXX🤩
The music is just magical , takes me back to being a child . My grandad bought me the album ❤️

I forgot to close my phone before putting it in my pocket and a few minutes later, this video started playing. My butt found it. I just thought you should know that.
I remember wondering why other song’s didn’t have characters like these. The duck wasn’t very smart leaving her pond.
I watched the Peter and the wolf play when I was in kindergarten can’t believe I found it
This is an excellent production! Thank you! I don't know if this is possible, but if you could re-edit the illustrated end to show the wolf spitting out the duck, alive, it would really help with kindergarten classes. They are usually the most scared of the wolf and one way I help them to be less scared is to tell them he swallows the duck alive and then coughs him out in the end. Many productions show this. I understand if you can't, but it would really help with the littles.
I have Watch this in my Music class
