There is no substitute for the smell of an acoustic guitar. I don't know what it is, but there's just something about it.

@@NeilMcLinden Intoxicating in a way, isn't it? I have a Taylor and it's the same with that guitar.
My grandfather had a ‘51 Martin D18. I’ll always remember him playing it at family gatherings. When he passed it was handed down to my uncle and he and the family continued to enjoy it. Sadly my uncle recently passed away, but that D18 is still being played, now by my cousin and his kids. A great instrument, and even greater men.

They say all kinds of stuff like that, but they don't know me. A man without musical talent or skill can get a lot out of a Tele*, not so much from a Martin. (I do sort of hanker for one of their Ukuleles.) *A man with a loud-ass amp, and a Tele, anyway...

Great. Love mine which I bought when I inherited my parents. Wanted something special - never to be sold - to remind me of them. Went to every store, tried every acoustic. And ended up with the D18. 3 years later it has really opened up - and I love it. Congrats Pete

There is one thing for sure. This is the kind of guitar that a kind of player like Pete deserves...
Congrats, Pete and thanks for reminding us of the power that 2 minutes of music has over 2 weeks of tough times. Best wishes.
I got my Martin D42 last year and there is nothing like opening that box/case and holding your dream guitar for the first time. Realizing a dream…awesome!
Thanks for recording that Pete! Nothing like seeing someone finally get their dream guitar... doesn't matter if they've played one before. When it's finally yours it's different. It always marks a milestone in your life, I find. She's beautiful.
I got my first D-18 back in January and I totally understand his reaction. I could just sit there and strum any chord and just listen and feel it ring out. It was and still is perfection.
I'm happy for you Pete! Hopefully whatever has been rough the past couple of weeks is behind you now.
That sounds fantastic. Always fun to see new guitar joy. Sorry for the tough times. I know everyone will agree, having you guys to hang out with has seen us through some challenging lonely times. Sorry you can’t see that we’re with you. Just know that we are. Better days ahead.
That guitar sounds amazing and Pete’s playing is so heartfelt and beautiful.
Great man, congratulation! Always super to see grown up men so happy with their new toy, people that don't love guitars will never understand this feeling, enjoy it!!
👍👍👍👍 Congrats Pete! I've had my D-18 for 1 year and am in love with mine.
Hey Pete,Congrats man. I feel for you having a rough time lately but I’m so happy for you to have been able to get this beautiful guitar. I’m glad it brightened your past couple weeks. Enjoy.
I love watching people get excited and enjoy the things they love. This is a gorgeous guitar Pete!
There's nothing like the smell of a new guitar!!! Congrats Pete! Great guitarists deserve great guitars!!!

We should all carry around joy like this and share it whenever possible!
I can totally relate to everything he said. Exactly how I felt when I first picked up my D18 a couple years ago randomly. Wasn’t planning to buy a guitar but it was just so good that I couldn’t put it down. The cool thing about this guitar is that it just sounds better and better after years of playing. It’s like the guitar age and mature with you. I have bought and sold many guitars over the years but I can’t imagine letting go my D18.
We’ll done Pete! Your excitement is infectious and as fairly new d-18 owner, I can relate to the sheer delight of ownership. The sustain, ease of play and gorgeous tone make it a keeper.and likely one of the best values in a pro level guitar.. Enjoy, you certainly deserve it! Thanks too for all the great reviews!
Warmest congratulations Maestro Pete! You deserve the very best and the D18 is the guitar all the other guitars aspire to be. I got mine earlier this year and it astounds and delights me every day - and it sure as hell smells good. Like you, I now have a three Martin family - a D jnr. ( one of the original ones) - an OMC 28 (tender beauty in a rosewood box) and now the D18. I noticed Martin put their titanium strings on the D45s from the factory and I thought, if they're good enough for the 45 then they're good enough for all my Martins - expensive but worth it - my little jnr. sounds like a standard series axe. Enjoy your new friend - you are man of rare talent, spirit and generosity and I thank you from distant South Australia.
Having owned a 1968 d35 for years I can understand your happiness. Congrats.
Pete you seem like a great guy I hope whatever was going on keeps getting better for ya. Always enjoy watching u play
My covid 2020 purchase was my first martin guitar ...I got an HPL Koa low end model but love it...it rings like bells in a cathedral and since I live in rainy Oregon....the changes in humidity and temperature don't affect the instrument at all....I love it...it's indestructible and sounds wonderful...no matter where I travel with it ...it will remain stable...no fret sprout, etc....wonderful instrument that I'll never get rid of.
I am so happy for you Pete! I went to the Martin factory for a tour several years ago at this point and got a 000-17. Just like you, something about the simplicity, no frills but brilliant sounding.
I've had my D18 for almost 4 years now. It has opened up so much and sounds amazing,
Could not be happier for you, Pete! Congratulations and enjoy!
Whenever I pick up my Martin D18, I can't get over how *LIGHT* it is, and yet what a *punch* it packs. Clear as a bell, with a full, delightful tone. A delight every time. If you have to have *one* acoustic guitar, you cannot go wrong with the D-18.
I was surprised how good the Guitar sounded just from the bloody lapel. The low end was so tight and defined.
It's always fun to watch someone who deserves a special tool use it. Grats!
Pete, I am a regular follower of your videos, greetings from South America, the sound of that guitar is absolutely incredible as soon as you unpacked it without doing any kind of calibration and changing the strings, I don't know how to define it but the low notes are fat and clean. May you enjoy it and bring you countless special moments and satisfactions.
I felt the same enthusiasm in opening my D18. So I love this video. Thanks
I tried a D-18 just like this at the store a few months back. Bar none my favourite acoustic guitar I've ever played. Looking forward to owning one for life someday. Congrats Pete!
It’s amazing how we all fall in love with different guitars in different price ranges. That undeniably sounds amazing with a bigger harmonic range than what I attribute the Martin sound to. Def one to keep an eye on.
"It just smells like home." -- I have a 2001 Martin DR and the smell of the rosewood 20 years later is still as intoxicating now as it was back when I bought it. Tuned to Open D, it's just a beast. Martin guitars, FTW.
Man, I freaking LOVE Martin guitars!!! Great choice. I have a Martin D18E Retro, which was/is my dream guitar. That tone is just amazing.
That's a fine instrument. I love the sound of a D-18. Congratulations!
That spruce top complements that gorgeous mahogany so well. I swear I can smell it from here. What a wonderful tone. It is sweetly singing when you play it. Enjoy.
Best part of the clip was watching Pete's excitement, especially as he is around guitars every day. Congrats Pete. P.S. Love The Dane overdrive.
That guitar sounded amazing even through the lapel microphone! Congrats Pete on your new guitar from my home state of Pennsylvania!
A real gem of a model is the D18. My personal favourite Martin. Congratulations Pete. Enjoy! 👍
The face doesn’t lie. So happy for you Pete! Cheers Bud! 👍🏻😊
I was fortunate to walk into a small guitar shop in Adelaide South Australia and find a Martin D18 vintage back in 2007 and have been in love with the quality and sound of this wonderfull instrument ever since I was never a Martin fan but l am still the proud owner of this great instrument
The sustain chimes beautifully !! It even sustains when it’s palm muted
It’s my dream guitar as well! I splurged about a year ago and bought myself a 1969 D18… it is AMAZING.
I was sat here going OM28, John Mayerr OM28 before you opened the box. Then I was D28, then you pull out the 18 instead. Never saw that coming. Congratulations!
HA!! LOVE THIS "you are now hearing Pete's lapel mic" - sounds better than anything I've ever recorded!

I use an SM-11 in places where I just want more SM-57, but I can't get close enough. It's the same cartridge basically, nekkid. I am sure that a lapel mic is not the best thing but it is a thing.
I just ordered one yesterday. If I hadn’t, this video alone would have sold me on one for sure. Absolutely gorgeous playing!
The pinnacle 🪄 Lovely guitar and cool demo. Have a great time with it!!
I used to work in music retail... that sweet Martin guitar smell still sticks in my mind.
Hi Pete, I realize this video is a year old but I loved the unboxing and how excited you were to get this beauty. I purchased a D-28 Modern Deluxe three years ago and love it, unfortunately I'm still learning to play, it does have a beautiful sound in spite of my incompetence in playing. Belated congratulations on getting this beautiful guitar!!

I have one on order. Can't wait to be in the same place as you are in the video!
I have said this before and I say this now too. Pete and Mick are one of the two best duo ever. MISS YOU PETE AND MICK..
I just got a 1986 D 28, absolutely LOVE it. Congrats !!
Congrats!! Happy day for Pete!!
Wow ……perfect D18 Congratulation for your purchase, I share your joy.It sounds so great.
Love acoustic guitars! So glad Pete got his new Martin.
when it comes to the smell of martin guitars ... oh man i got a OOO28-EC and when i open the case the whole room smells like that guitar. Its so lovely
It sounds bloody amazing - D28 was my first guess. That has always been my 'Grail' Martin guitar, but the D18 is sweet!
Lovely well balanced tone, enjoy Pete! I have a 22 years old J1 which despite not having fresh strings for over a decade still sounds mint. Lightweight too 👍❤️🎶
Just ordered a 000-18 and D-18 from Sweetwater, super stoked! Best early Christmas gift for myself!!
Dude, so happy for you brother! It sounds and looks amazing!
ahhh what a beauty. I bough myself a 000-18 in early 21. Great guitars! Congrats Pete!
I can't believe how good that sound is. Just that first chord.. dropped my jaw - no kidding
Congratulations Pete😎👍 Glad you've got a well deserved smile on your mug👍 😎👍❤🖖 Love Brother
Congratulations on a beautiful D-18!!!
So gorgeous! I love my GPC-18E. Picked up my HD-28 the other day (which I also love) and could not believe how heavy it was in comparison.
That sounds so good! I am very happy for you.
Soooo love my D18…..was my dream guitar I had wanted for many years……I know the feeling mate and it sounds great ! Enjoy !!!
This is so awesome…. The D-18 is my favorite Martin amongst other 28 series, Custom Shop, and other 15, 17s…. Seeing that this is Peters favorite guitar makes me feel great about preferring it over my HD-28 ( which people see as a level up - rosewood). Congrats Danish Pedro!
I've never seen somebody look so happy just strumming a G chord. Congrats!
Congratulations! By the sound of it right out of the box, you got a good one.
So beautiful, Martin makes the best acoustics without a doubt.
Lovely vid! Congratulations and happy to see such excitement 🙂
Was expecting something more exotic to be honest. I have a D18 as well and love it. Glad Pete would approve!
Wow that’s awesome! That sound is so iconic and screams MARTIN!!!!
I just received a new Martin dreadnought late in September and like yours it arrived pretty close to in tune. Crazy!
Good choice Pete. The mahogany adds a warmth to the acoustic tone that I find the most pleasing to my ears.
Congratulations Pete! Such a great guitar.
Sounds good now, but when it finally opens up.... Yeah it's going to sound amazing. Congratulations Pete!!!
I have one too. They are the ultimate dread to me. Elegantly simple.
I remember saving up to buy my first “nice” acoustic. I found a 1970 Martin D-35 for $1000. It has been the best guitar purchase I have ever made. I play it everyday. Nothing like a good Martin.
Whoohooo. Congrats I visited their factory 2 years ago it’s a great tour and birthplace of great guitars!
Congratulations, bought one , and that’s just sold many more 😀. Sounds beautiful
December 2006 I got my 000-28 , ordered through a dealer . The first thing I did after unboxing , was to smell the guitar . Before tuning , before anything else , I sniffed . The scent is nearly intoxicating , the Spanish Cedar purfling , the Rosewood , the Spruce , the new Geib style case . so Pete , I'm with you bud ... enjoy it . after 15 years , mine still has the faint aroma of a new Martin .
Watching this video made me buy a Martin D18. I already wanted one and was able to get 4 year no interest financing. It should be arriving in the next few days. Wow!
Owning a Martin guitar is on my wishlist! As someone from PA gotta love they’re made in Pennsylvania too
Gotta share the excitement now. I have a new D18 inbound after a custom setup and am really looking forward to it. Offloaded a Les Paul for it but I think it will be a lifetime guitar.
Very cool. Thanks for the review. All the playing, all the vids are fun to watch and listen
Congratulations, the D-18 is one of Martin’s finest guitars. The mahogany body delivers a really warm tone. Enjoy for many years.
Congrats DP! 🎉
I wish to visit Andertons one day, just to say "grrreetings ladies and gentlemen" and "where is Danish Pete from Dutch?", then buy some Dane Gain. That will be the trip of my life.
Thats real nice, good for you!
Sounds amazing! And I'd really love that "3 Martins" video - would be be really interesting!
Congratulations Pete that is an amazing guitar.
Love seeing the happiness we all feel when we unbox our new guitars. Cheers!
Pete, Cheers - I have a several month old D18 Sunburst and absolutely love it - can't put it down. Rich warm sound and the smell of the mahogany is wonderful too. With my HD28E, DSS15M Streetmaster, and DRS2 am set for life - I think?
Sounds monster on my new Sony headphones. Congratulations, you've been waiting one for a long time.
Awesome Pete, you beautiful Danish man! Great playing!
