This video shows days 26 to 40 of the hatching story after our young seramas hatched out their first brood of babies. I will continue to upload videos of the the chicks growing up and settling into the flock, and how our first-time mama hens cope with raising their babies. Fingers crossed for everyone to get along! I've also uploaded videos for the entire three weeks of the brooding process and the many serama dramas throughout, which you can watch from the start here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=28r7w...

Chickens make great pets and if this channel inspires you to get some, please do your research first. A flock of pet chickens will require the usual financial investments that other pets require, including shelter, feed, considering pet medical insurance, and your time and attention. I feel lucky that they trust me. Partly it might be that I raised them indoors with their mama Artemis so they have also been handled by me when they were tiny chicks. Have a great day

I'm so happy about these updates and not so long ago I was asking myself if where have you been .... keep on updating us we love this .... firstly I am so happy that our girl defiance is doing so much great and growing well, I was thinking that since miss defiance is much more confident and can move with the help of the wings its time maybe to put them back to their moms so that they wont forget them and they must be missing their moms as well as their mom missing defiance and her sister.... I am aware that releasing them to their moms is gonna be a work because she still needs all the attention to check whether she is following when ever they are outside, I don't know but my heart wants all of them now to be together.

It's so cool that I see you doing and trying the very same tactics I'm trying with my Serama's... I have fixed leg problems, and cared for orphan/rejected chicks since I was a child... (Straw n rubber band trick, or the little fabric vest/sling ) is fabulous👍 As well, my Rosie and her daughter Gracie sat on 10 eggs, and successfully hatched 7 babies, now, they both go head to tail under each other's wings to form a little dome of warmth for all 7 @ once ! I have never seen this behavior with any of our other birds ! I LOVE IT ! We have hatched out 28 babies in the past week.... & our broody hens are still laying on over a dozen eggs ! WELL DONE & KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Hello, it is so great to hear you've had success with helping chicks with leg problems and orphans - well done! It takes so much patience and care, and it is wo wonderful to hear about you doing this 💗 Once we hold a little chick's life in our hands, it's hard not to do all we can to give them the best chance. Congrats on Rosie and Gracie's hatch! They sound like they are being great co-parenting mums. It must be wonderful to see, and so lovely that mother and daughter are doing it together! Those lucky little babies. I am sure they will learn a lot from those clever mums. 28 babies and more to come is amazing! Congrats. I hope your flock grows healthy and strong. It is wonderful to hear from you , and thanks for your kind words! All the best.

Thank you for your kind words, and beautiful spirit. Rosie and Gracie are doing very well with their co-parenting of the chicks ! It's like a little line dance of chicken mom's and babies kicking straw to reveal the feed. I LOVE IT ! Watching others around the world trying the same techniques on babies with leg issues is indeed comforting and inspiring that we are not alone in our efforts to preserve life. I hope Defiance is well. You have a lovely little flock there and they look to be as happy and healthy as can be. Do you ferment any of your feed ? I must say, it does makes a big difference. They get more nutrients from the food, and it's easier for them to process, as well, it aids in hydration !👍 Looking forward to your next video/update !

Your chickens are so CUTE! I have a lot of different chicken breeds, but you have inspired me to get Seramas next 😂. 12 Serama eggs are in the incubator to hatch on Wednesday! My first time actually incubating eggs. I want to post a video when (if) they hatch/of the chicks hatching! I’m super excited for tiny Seramas.

Thank you! Aren't chickens just the funniest and cutest once you get to understand them?! I am so glad you are joining the serama adventure, and fingers crossed for you to have a great hatch. Iw ould love to hear about it - and if you do post a video it would be great to see it - if you can drop by my comments to let me know I would love to watch? Also, just a word of warning about how tiny they are even as adults, and they can have brave, fesity temperaments - please be be careful when introducing them into your flock if you will be keeping them all together. If you have any chance of bonding the babies to a broody hen to raise and introduce them to the flock, this will help them a lot! I mention this only to avoid any heartache if something goes wrong - and my fingers are crossed for you that all will be well. Hope the hatch goes wonderfully. Enjoy those babies!

How is the chick doing? I hope it is well. Was it an incubator hatch or under a broody hen? I'm sorry to hear all the rest didnt make it. Sometimes it all seems to happen that way. I saw on instagram someone mentioned that their hen was unable to hatch out any eggs after three weeks of sittingon them, and the hen possibly hadnt been turning the ggs properly or keeping them warm enough. Sometimes this just happens, and I wish you better luck for next time.

Hi RK, the chick is going great so far and it was my first attempt in an incubator, all my others have been under a hen, I only used the incubator because I’m after a black Marans and the last lot of eggs I put under a silky, she got of off them through the night going on to hatch day. I think the fans in the incubator where drying the eggs out to quickly even though I had the humidity up higher as it said to do in the manual for the last three days I found that the membrane around the chicks dried and stuck to them and then they couldn’t move. So after the first one didn’t survive and the second egg pipped and it was already day 23 I decided to rescue the second one and had to peel a lot of the membrane off as it was already stuck to the chick. I’m glad I did because this one is so cute and friendly. I have also looked everywhere to find seramas in Australia but no one has imported them that I can find, But Ideos thank you.

A little suggestion. It's obvious that you love animals, but you don't realize that chickens can get hurt during a fight. When a hen pecks a chick on the head, there can be consequences, except when its mother does it as an educational admonition. The rooster also got involved in the fight and injured the hens. The baby chicks and their mother are kept separate from the flock until the chicks are big enough. Nor do people keep their children in an environment where they are not fully protected. Kudos to you for your efforts with the little chicken with the injured leg.

@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 I have dealt with a few chicks with the splay leg issue. Some of them adapt very well just as it is (after wearing the splint of course- even if not fully corrected). They have to work harder than everyone else, but they are determined. One of my girls (standard hen, not Serama) came to me from a school hatching program. Her legs were entirely splayed. Worst case I’ve seen. I got the splint on her and she had difficulty the first week and a half but it situated well enough to the point she could get around fine, It can take about 3 weeks to fully mend up..after that though is where it’s going to stay. Her middle toes ended up bending inward as the splay corrected itself in the splint, but that’s how it mended, and so that’s how she is today, but she gets around fine. Only thing I have to do for her is clip the two twisted toe’s nails as they get long from not being able to use them for scratching. Also, I know of people who’s hen lost a leg and it just hops around on the other. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not that it’s great, but just saying, I think you’d be amazed how well they can adapt to their disability. They just need little helps along the way. I think in time you’ll be able to see exactly what she needs and find something that supports her. It might be possible for a vet to re set the leg later when she’s a thriving adult, but that could be risky. Just be sure to find a vet experienced with birds. Being prey animals with a death reflex to pain, surgery can be extremely risky. I’m sad to say I never had a hen pull through after surgery. It’s typically 50/50 and dependent on the pain medication being very consistent and smooth. That’s really hard to do considering all beings react differently to pain meds, wears off at different variables and the fact overdose can kill just as much as under dosing! But it has been done before. I haven’t heard anything about resetting a leg via surgery for a chicken though. I feel it could be attempted. It’s hard to know what to suggest for Defiance since it’s a bit difficult to see exactly what’s going on with her leg. I can see it’s put to the back, but not sure what mobility it has or how she babys it. I do feel confident she will manage. 😄👍🏻 Keep up the tremendous good work! ❤️
