Pet foxes are not for children. Raising a fox is like raising a child. Besides foxes Gaia and Inali, only people 18-years-of-age or older are featured in our content.** Gaia and Inali are North American red/silver foxes (Vulpes vulpes). They were not taken from the wild. Never take a wild animal from their habitat. Our foxes are from a long-line of domesticated foxes. It took many generations to acquire their unique colors. We adopted them from rescued fur-farm descendants (ranch-raised foxes). Domesticated (or tame) foxes have genetic differences from their wild counterparts. Many of these foxes have lost their natural instincts and cannot be released into the wild just like you wouldn’t throw your cat or dog outside to fend for themselves. More information about fox domestication is in the links below. When we first started researching foxes, laws and caring for foxes, we came across many “breeders” who wanted to make a quick buck and didn’t care much about the animals they were selling. When we asked them to see photos or videos of the parents, they could not supply those. Eventually, we found a USDA licensed breeder in Indiana who answered all our questions and had Gaia and Inali’s parents. They’ve been raising foxes for more than forty years. Gaia and Inali wag their tails, get excited to see us, trust us and have never bitten us. Gaia and Inali bicker with each other at times (which is very loud-not violent, though). Our foxes live side-by-side with us in our home instead of disassociated from the family in an outside enclosure. We’ve worked hard to teach them household behavior and being a part of our pack. However, foxes are not submissive and they do have a mind of their own. It’s their world and we just live in it and feed them, lol. They are very strong-willed and determined. We are consistent with correcting behaviors that may cause damage to our home but we never yell, spank or discipline to try and take away their natural tendencies like curiosity, cautiousness, running, chasing, digging, jumping, hunting, etc. We just find alternate methods to accommodate their needs. We’ve had to alter our lives and our home to raise them and cohabitate with foxes. People often say foxes are like a cat and dog in one. This is true, but they are also like raising two ADHD toddlers for life. We have about thirty years of experience in raising and training dogs and other animals so we understand the constant supervision, consistent training and patience required to raise high-maintenance animals. Plus, our children (we raised five) are grown up and out of the house, so we have time and resources to devote to Gaia and Inali. Gaia and Inali have their own room where they play and sleep when we are not home and during the night. We’ve diligently, and creatively, fox proofed our house. Belyaev's Russian experiment is fascinating work and I greatly respect it! Our foxes’ biology may not be as advanced as the Belyaev foxes but with how far along ours are from the wild or original fur farm foxes (40 generations) and the environment our foxes are raised in, they are at a great advantage on the road to domestication. Clearly, though, foxes have a ways to go before being close to dog domestication. However, Belyaev’s experiment began seeing favorable domestication traits only ten years after their start. Regardless, each fox has a different personality and temperament like dogs and humans. Inali, the male pearl fox, is more calm, playful and approachable than Gaia, the female white fox. She’s a bit more stubborn and high strung. We got them young (around six weeks old) to start bonding with them right away. It is essential to spend much time and loving attention to earn their trust. I hope with responsible, loving and committed adults, foxes can further become domesticated and welcomed into common households. Check with the authorities where you live for more information.) sybilsden.com/reference/state-regs.htm michiganpetfox.weebly.com/michigan-state-fox-laws.html livingwithfoxes.weebly.com/legality.html pethelpful.com/exotic-pets/exotic-pet-fox We got a health certificate from the breeder, along with documentation from the DNR and the state veterinarian approving we may own ranch-raised foxes that do not resemble foxes from the wild. The DNR requires a Permit to Hold Game in Captivity for animals that closely resemble game/wild species and can be reasonably confused with game/wild species. This is why we chose Gaia, a high-white marble and Inali, a pearl color so they would not be confused with the wild red (Vulpes vulpes) or gray (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) foxes. People should never take an animal from the wild! These foxes are not considered exotic animals by our state since their species are from North America. We had to present a compelling case before our township Board of Trustees to get these types of foxes classified as other household animals since, of course, nothing in the local ordinance mentioned anything about foxes. We cited state law: Foxes in captivity as domestic animals; protection; construction of part - “ Such fur-bearing animals, together with their offspring and increase, are the subjects of ownership, lien, and all other property rights, in the same manner as purely domestic animals”. After our township consulted with their attorney, we were then given permission to own domesticated foxes. We wanted to be sure we had clear documentation and authority to legally have these foxes since illegal ownership could result in them being confiscated and euthanized. That is something we could not live with going through and that is very irresponsible for someone to do. After getting the proper approvals, we then called around to every veterinarian in the area to see if they could care/treat foxes. Only one clinic would accept them. We consulted with the veterinarian to ensure her qualifications and knowledge about which vaccines the foxes would need and proper dosage, along with being able to spay/neuter them. Gaia and Inali receive deworming medicine, flea and tick prevention treatment, and distemper and rabies vaccines. They have rabies certificates but that is still a gray area since there are no FDA-approved rabies vaccines for foxes. It is possible that if a fox bites someone, they can be considered rabid and would have to be euthanized to get brain tissue and test for rabies. Foxes are a handful and a ton of work. Foxes are not for everyone. Again, most of it depends on where you get them and how you raise them. We never cage Gaia and Inali. They are a part of our family like our children, just a bit naughtier. We are responsible adults and knew what we were committing to before we brought Gaia and Inali home. We make sure to provide them with the best home, the best food, the best vet care and with so much love as we do our children. I hope this helps clarify a bit - foxes are not for everyone. Back when I was in high school neighbors had killed a vixen and taken her pups. I heard about it and went to see them and asked if I could have the runt but was told it "is for my 4 yr.old son" I took one of the others and when home gave it a bath as it was covered in feces from being with the others in a rabbit hutch, gave it a penicillin shot and fixed up a place in our barn for it to live. I did keep him on a collar and light chain because we had no actual pen of wire and this way he was in a large stall with a raised manger to go under. After about two months (he'd grown well, living mainly on wet cat food and meat scraps) I came home from school and decided it was time for his release. I'd heard that the other 5 littermates all had died, so his release was bittersweet. I planned on releasing him all along but would love another in my life again...its sweet to see yours and makes the want even stronger.

lol, she had us so confused when we went in their room and we couldn't find Gaia until we heard her scratching at the cabinet door. We were still astonished on how she got in there until she revealed her trick!

I can't believe how much like cats they are.

I really enjoyed this video. I have a fox family in my field and under my little barn. I am not looking to make them pets. I just wanted to provide a safe place for the babies to grow up. I had no idea they like watermelon, I have been feeding the mother all winter chicken beef and tuna in the can. Tonight she came to the house and was calling. I had not yet put out the food. lol Thanks for a really enjoyable film.

There's a difference between wild foxes and domesticated foxes like these ones. The domesticated foxes were deliberately bred to become tame by Russian scientists as a science experiment; their relationship to wild foxes is equivalent to the relationship between dogs and wolves.

IM A FOX LOVER BUT WHEN I SEEN THE BABY FOX I WAS CRYING ITS SO CUTE🥺🥺

My female chihuahua (of 14yrs old now), looks just like Gaia! I have always called her foxy, coz of her looks! A deer headed chi, long fluffy tail and body, fox like needs and traits, and her eyes and ears too! I love her to bits. She's highly sensitive and intelligent. Thx for sharing. I set out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the raccoons....but noticed from the security cameras that the fox liked them as well, so the raccoon didn't get as much as I thought!

Foxes fascinate me. I really want one for my own, I’ve been told that it’s a lot of work but I feel like I’d be able to take it on with more research. My parents would never let me have one so I’ll have to wait a LONG time. But that gives me more time to research and make sure that this is right for me.

Foxes are now smart , as they observed that dogs and cats are luckier than them so they try also to be friendly and want to be pet with human so they could experience the love that human gave to the cats and dogs.

How do your foxes interact with your cat? Did you have to start separating them once they got bigger?

Our older cat, Loki, gets along with them fine because he put them in their place. Inali tested his boundaries with Loki by seeing if he could pounce on him but Loki just batted him back. Loki uses their litter box, eats their food and will play with their toys. Our other cat, Luna-the kitten seen in the video but is now full grown, is scared of the foxes. Inali tested his boundaries with her and she cowarded down like prey, so he treats her like prey and will try to get to her but she stays away. We keep a baby gate up to seperate the upstairs where the foxes hang out and the downstairs where Luna stays until the foxes go to bed. Loki on the other hand, hangs out with both foxes. A few weeks ago my cousin gave me a baby fox because the mother of them abandoned her. She was a beautiful white fox. I named her winter after her fur color. It's official!! I could watch these videos of pet foxes all day every day. Hands down one of my all time favorite videos. The pet foxes are absolutely adorable and I enjoy watching them eat, play, be curious, dig, play hide and seek and definitely eating snacks and cuddling with their humans. The Calendar of Creation I love when they adopt that submissive nature where they make themselves as small as possible to show they’re no threat, the ears go flat and they run back and forth in that crouching position. I watch them do it in the wild, just fascinating animals👍👍❤️❤️

I didn't even know it was legal to own a fox.They seem very sweet creatures. I love their smiles.

@@markuse3472 Please stop writing that in EVERY SINGLE COMMENT. Have you REALLY seen how these people treat the dogs? NO. As Gaia Fox says, the channel is about foxes, so, THE VIDEOS ARE ABOUT FOXES. Dogs may not be shown in every video (they were shown in a few ones), but if you've seen every video, you'll know that these people treat ALL of their animals with love, incluiding the foxes and the dogs. So, please, don't make assumptions if you don't even know or have evidence about the case. Gaia Fox is a wonderful fox AND dog owner.

Cats bite and scratch too, not aggressive but can leave marks, fox might be a bit worse, but from a russian video guess I can let them nibble my wrist

They are breathtaking🦊🦊🤍🖤🤍🖤 foxes are very energetic♡ my son& husb had the privilege of rescuing a pup& found it a home with someone with land and he did everything for the fox to be cared for, outdoors and indoors❤ it was an fun and good experience for my son& hubby to have♡

They are so sweet but are very high maintenance. Definitely for someone with time and energy!

Yes, you are right - foxes are not your average pet nor for everyone! Our kids are grown up, so we have time to raise foxes now. They keep us busy!

@anna verano thank you for watching and leaving a comment. We don't ever cage or kennel Gaia and Inali. They have their own room where they sleep, play, eat and hang out when we're not home. They enjoy their alone time just like certain people don't want to be around people all of the time. They're not cuddly but they will sit and lay next to us on the couch. :)

Honestly good on them for realizing that they can't take care of it instead of keeping the poor baby in a potentially bad situation. OMG they are so adorable who couldn't resist their cuteness.

So cute.... Used to look out my window across a field and watch fox cubs playing near den. Loved them ever since even though they killed some of my chickens. So started leaving scraps outside and they didn't bother with the chickens any more.

I REALLY FALL IN LOVE WITH GAIA!
