Perspective: Is Belief In God Reasonable?

Ойын-сауық

In disorienting times, how can we focus our vision on the things that matter most and build our lives on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ?
This week, Pastor Ben Stuart is back with a powerful and thought-provoking message in our Perspective series, showing us that our faith is not wish-fulfillment or fairytales; it's the most rational way to wrestle with life's difficult questions. We pray this message will bring you hope and purpose in difficult times and help set your feet on solid ground!

Pastor Ben - I was praying earlier today, telling God how I feel numb and directionless. This sermon was God's answer.

My wife and I are loving this apologetics series! Thats what I love about Christianity, most people dont realize just how reasonable it is. This world generally takes for granted that the scientific view is correct without much reason of our own other than "they say its true, so it must be" . The faith we have in words of men! I was in that place a few years ago and am glad to say I'm done with that. Keep rockin Pastor Ben!

This is so important for our postmodern minds…we need God’s help to think logically. As RC Sproul had said, “God wants to renew our minds, not remove them.” We need God’s Word (Heb 4:12)…and to be able to talk about the reasons for the hope we have. 1 Peter 3:15

Help me out. I agree that the universe smacks of intelligent design. But evidence of an intelligent designer - even evidence of a God - is not, in itself, evidence for the God of the Bible. All we have so far is theism, not Judaism or Christianity. So then, the defense of Judaism and Christianity turns to the faithful transmission of Scripture. Fair enough. We'll agree on a faithful and accurate transmission. However, I still have two problems that lay on either side of that transmission. Who wrote it down and why should I trust them? That's the origin side of the transmission. Then, there's the canon side. Who chose the texts that would compose the biblical canon and why should I trust them? In sum, who says? Who says and why should I trust them? As far as I've found (and I was a zealous Christian apologist for twenty years), I've never come across the argument which could completely satisfy the skeptic's legitimate challenges on these points. Again, help me out.

Dear mw, In my opinion, being a Christian is more than just thinking logically and inside the box, I beleive that some things are beyond our small human comprehension. I think that there are some things that we just wont understand or comprehend until God tells us why he did it that way, when we get to heaven. One example of this is the fact that there was nothing but God before the Universe, it is hard for me to understand that. Jesus told Thomas when he doubted that Jesus had been risen from the dead that he had to show him his scars for him to beleive but those that beleived without seeing would be blessed. I hope this helps you out bro! Keep waiting patiently and I will pray that the Lord will open your eyes to see him and have a firm faith in him! 💪

Why is Pastor Ben always wearing black? Is he grieving?

  • @andrewverghese3208

Pastors and people on stage normally wear black because it is subtle and doesn’t distract the congregation from the message.

As much as I love Pastor Ben's sermons, I'm not sure a Harry Potter reference is the best thing for a pastor to be talking about. Seeing as its you know... witchcraft? I guess alot of Christianity really is blind to these things and how damaging they can be. I love the sermons but this intro was difficult. Let's keep witchcraft out of the pulpit please.

It’s a movie. Don’t you think critiquing an experience that relates to Christ is a bit unreasonable?

@JesseLane-jj7xq I respect your view, but no matter how you attempt to "relate" it to Christ, you can't put witchcraft and God in the same boat. Justifying sin is dangerous. I absolutely respect and appreciate your take on this. But isn't justifying sin to make it relate to Christ unreasonable? It's witchcraft, hands down. And it doesn't belong on the pulpit. Pastors need to stop doing this.

Great video but Harry Potter and Hogwarts intro isn’t the best approach. I wanted to show my gf this video and after the intro she wants nothing to do with the rest of the video. 😩
