In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on 'India-ASEAN Relations'. India is hosting the Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ meeting on 16-17 June to mark the 30th anniversary of its dialogue relations and the 10th anniversary of its Strategic Partnership with ASEAN. Addressing this meeting External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasised that the 10-nation grouping’s role is more important today given the geopolitical challenges and uncertainties faced by the world. ASEAN is central to India’s Act East Policy and its vision for the wider Indo-Pacific. ASEAN-India dialogue relations started with the establishment of sectoral partnership in 1992 which graduated to full dialogue partnership in December 1995, Summit level Partnership in 2002 and Strategic partnership in 2012. The ongoing India-ASEAN collaboration is guided by the Plan of Action 2021-2025 which was adopted in 2020.

India-ASEAN both have had strategic ties for a decade. Both Asian countries and India have similar cultures from ancient times, we have had good relations with these countries from the imperial Chola empire time in terms of trade, culture, military etc. Now the time has changed, global challenges change concerning time in the Indo-Pacific region, the main concern is china ( expansionist policy in the region) by using a different tool for that like economic debt trap in the surrounding countries of India, like Srilanka Hambantota port, Pakistan Gwadar port, many other strategic positions to overcome the dependence on the malacca strait. China has a major influence on ASEAN countries they have 10 times more trade than India. Considering all the aspect India need to strengthen its roots in the ASEAN, it will not happen in one or two years it needs time to develop trust. For that, we are signing the Brahmos deal with some of the ASEAN countries, naval exercises to strengthen our partnership with these countries, we are more focusing on act east policy to increase trade and many more steps have been taken to enhance our strength among them.

India’s relations with ASEAN are important in the backdrop of China and as well in the interest of the region. They are to be strategic, economic and digital these days. Land and maritime relations besides Quad relations between them seems imperative. Dr. S Jayasankar FM from INDIA has been successfully engineering our relations with them. His diplomatic activism might yield tangible result in the future. Thank you.

Hindi and English are both official languages of the central govt. and if English is being used that doesn't mean that Hindi is being murdered. If we go by our Xenophobic and stupid logic then whenever Hindi is being used then all other languages of our country are being murdered.
