Ai jounaling sounds amazing and will definitely try it! I agree regarding the " diet"... even if you eat " perfect " ( whatever the heck that even means), if you are constantly stressed, constant catastrophic thinking, negative thinking, and burning the candle at all ends and possibly have repressed inner traumas too then food alone wont fix it ..beautiful dogs btw, so cute and calming 😊

It's so interesting how different things work for different people. I got so much out of the Gabor Mate book and the IFS book, but the Sarno books were not for me at all and felt almost like gaslighting and made me feel worst. Thank you for showcasing so many different people and views. :)

Great conversation, Lindsay and Raelan! In my recovery and in working with others, I've found that repressed emotions/trauma are the big pink elephant in the room. You're not ready to see it until you are, but exploring that elephant can bring so much insight, somatic awareness and healing. I've found Mindful Self-compassion to be a powerful balm for self-criticism, perfectionism, people pleasing and other personality traits that both Mate and Sarno describe so well. I have a module on using self-compassion and loving kindness to soften our "coping mechanisms" in my course, as well as many somatic meditations and writing exercises to feel emotions. These are often missing pieces of the puzzle for people! Thanks for this beautiful conversation and for the wonderful work you both do!

I loved what Lindsay said about how some brain retraining programs don’t help overachiever or perfectionist types because we try to apply those same traits to the program. I’ve tried a very well known program twice now in earnest and while I made minor gains each time, I felt overwhelmed by making sure to do several rounds a day. After a while, it felt like just going through the motions and I became bored with just trying to check it off my to do list each day.

Sorry to hear that about the brain retraining program, Amy. Would you be ok to say which program it was? (No worries, if not.) Thank you.

@@jog5289I didn’t really want to say, since the program has worked for so many others and to each their own. I’ve also definitely gained some useful tools from the program, so all was not lost.

Yes, I have to admit that I am with the bunch of those three personality traits 🙂 I totally agree with the diet aspect, it is good the eat healthy, but its not the missing puzzle in the recovery process, in my opinion. I also realised about the nightmares I do often experience during the night, what they are telling me, they are all messages from the subconscious, they want to speak with us. A lot of interesting stuff you where talking in this interview. I believe that I am on the right way to recovery with all the missing pieces which are coming now little by little on the surface of my deep inner ocean. I guess the healing journey is a dance, one step for two steps back, one to the left, two to the right 🙂 By the way, a cool jumper you are wearing today 🙂 Can I have it 🙂and the dog from Lindsay and yours 🙂

I am a retired hypnotherapist , I believe regression therapy is amazing for releasing old stuck emotions. What i like about it is when you're in trance you bypass the critical faculty/ conscious mind) and work directly with the subconscious which is where all your memories and emotions are held. Revisit the past and reframe what happened at the time it happened. People emerge happier and lighter releasing the old and changing the perspective. When done correctly it has amazing healing results.

Thanks for the interesting interview. It was nice to see Lindsay again. I listened to Lindsay's podcast with Stu, on You Tube, over a year ago now, but I didn't realise it was only Season 1. I look forward to catching up on the other seasons now. Do you mind if I ask if you reached full recovery, Lindsay? (You're looking really well.) Best wishes to all. 💛🧡💜
