So, in theory…were these not the same people who all had their hearts changed 6-7 years later during the events of Persona 5 when Mementos, the heart of the collective desire of the masses, was erased by the Phantom Thieves. Their hearts shouldn’t be calling Nyx anymore after being changed and Door-Kuhn can come home.

@@DJSpike-ft9yw the Heart of the Collective Conciousness that the Phantom Thieves stealed was the Heart of the people of Japan, not of the whole world, so it wouldn't work (but it still would lessen the power of Erebus significantly)

Erebus is a personification of the entire world's desire to die and free themselves from their shitty lives, to defeat it doesn't necessarily get rid of those desires, it just holds them at bay. To steal someone's heart however, requires the Metaverse, as so far its the only alternate reality in Persona that gives desire any amount of physical form

At the time of Persona 3, this is the monster the SEES Investigation Team fought. It makes a cameo in Persona 4 Ultimax Arena, but no other word on its future appearance. I presume that means it may return in the next persona game or between 5 and 6 somewhere.

I think it will never not hit hard with the realization that Erebus was the manifestation of humanities desire for death. A desire so strong that it called for an ACTUAL god to bring humanity to it's end. Something about that is far more messed up than the false manifestation of a god in P5, as much as I think that game had a pretty good final boss.

Not really since that’s quite literally every god I’m the series either a manifestation of the collective unconscious or a derivative of it. Not to mention Erebus isn’t powerful enough to pose any threat to Elizabeth let alone the other persona users and his boss fight definitely reflects that fact.

It gives me willpower to struggle on because wishing for death is just the easy out all of us desire deep down, but you can’t let it win.

I hate to say that, if something like this existed anywhere in our world, my own thoughts for sure would have played a part in creating it. Life's hard to take sometimes, even if you do your best to deal with it.

Yeah. I’m sorry mate and it is understandable. I started being suicidal since I was in middle school, my thoughts would’ve already contributed for way too many years. It’s a lot harder to be suicidal right now unless I feel enough embarrassment because things have gotten kinda better but, it can never truly go away. Plus, burying your thoughts just makes things really hard so, it’s best to just vent it out at some point in your life. With that being said, I do hope you’re doing better now. I wish you the best.

Well thats it's reason it's portrayed as such a threat; it wouldn't just be from that, itd be from people born with horrible illnesses or problems (p3 akinari), most likely also from those wishing some loved ones would go ahead and pass on (see death link in p4), and since with long enough life, everyone goes through a terrible breakup/divorce, a death, a long term lie, a major existential crisis, a health problem, wanting to join their friends and family that left them, eventually everyone whispers or calls for it. It's the personification of "sweet release", letting go, vs the opposing side of continuing to hang on. It's not any one person's fault, and it will never permanently go away, it just "is". But yeah obv hope you do better irl. Longer you live, you see how life is a slot machine, or see saw, going from -10 to 10. Some of the most wondrous and horrible things can happen, sometimes back to back. You just have to not lash out and hurt others for "revenge", hug anyone back who hugs you, and hold on. Always count your blessings, there's children with skin disorders in constant agony still hanging on, and even by simply living you can be the reason a loved one, a friend, or stranger keeps hanging on by the simplest random actions at the right time.

​@@undyingrevenant2734I don't even really seesaw anymore. I'm not really in a bad position or anything either. I guess you can say I am absolutely bored out of my mind. Don't think I am suicidal or anything. Although if something happens it happens. Nothing even really happened during covid, except the lockdowns just destabilized the world for a disease not much worse than the flu. With the flu there was no such reaction to the virus in recent history. Nothing remotely like the bubonic plague. As I get older I tend to hate humanity more and more. If I had any hope it was utterly crushed from the stupidity of covid. So I wouldn't be the one trying to actively call for Nyx, but if it occurs, I'll let it just happen. I guess I just don't have anything outside the occasional entertainment to keep me occupied.

Back when I first played this game, I sort of wondered why there wasn't a Fool Shadow, since the Magician Shadow was defeated in the cutscene the protagonist gets his Persona in, and the first Full Moon Mission has S.E.E.S fighting the Priestess Shadow. *Then I played The Answer and looked at Erebus's arcana...* I know Erebus isn't truly a Shadow, but seeing it labeled as The Fool has to be significant. Just gotta hope an eventual remake addresses it.

It might be what started it all. The fool being the beginning of the journey. It is said that all 12 shadows began appearing the moment door-kun awakened to his potential. Starting from Orpheus and ending to Thanatos. But it might also he that this entire thing started because there were enough people calling for the release of death. Their yearn for death caused the awakening of Orpheus, and subsequently attracting the attention of the 12 shadows making up Death.

The Fool represents the unknown force of change that humans express upon the world for good or bad. Erebus is the amalgamation of humanity's desire for the world to end, or more specifically being free of suffering and hardship at any cost; if you have ever desired for the world to change drastically, or even possibly violently, you too are calling for Erebus. Hubris is our unique curse, while animals around us might make mistakes, so far it seems that only humans believe they are greater than the universe around them and will attempt to shape the very rules of nature to fit their ideas. That is what the Fool arcana represents, true hubris through humanity. It is the belief that we can defeat anything we dare challenge, when the ending of Persona 3 is quite literally the protagonist giving his life to PREVENT humans from daring to challenge Nyx again. Personally, I think the name Erebus means more than their arcana being Fool to the overall story and theme of P3, because of the relation to Nyx and the original inspirations for the names in P3. (See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erebus) TLDR: Erebus is the fool, because he represents all of us - and we are all fools. ...and at the end of the day, never forget... The Sun Singes the Fool!

I love the idea of this final boss, I just wish it had a few more neat touches, like when you attack it or it attacks you I think it would be neat it you heard the sound of several people muttering intrusive thoughts, such as “I hate myself”, “just kill me”, “I want to die”

Thank God this battle wasn't as long as Nyx's; or at least I didn't find it as long.

Persona 3 boss music: That which escaped the Darkness The Answer's boss music: The Darkness

I'm so hyped for september!!!!!

Sure it might sound goofy about a boss like this, but looking into those piercing bright eyes I could almost see myself staring back. The shape of its faces are endlessly pooling black smoke under the orbs, perpetually rolling down the mouth like tears. The torsos are almost fraying like they're pulled apart in opposite directions. The near-human hands and teeth are grasping and gnashing at the door in desperate _want_ at a self-annihilation they're denied. All the characters in the Answer struck a chord in me as relatable or at least understandable (Aki shutting things down in order to stop dwelling may've come across as a bit stark/lacking tact in the moment), but recognizing some of my own gnawing emotions in that creature was sobering.

Glad to see it back!

This mood sets the theme perfectly, it could not be any better,

I just realized the first notes are almost exactly like the queen beast song from drakengard

I love the subtle opposition this song has to burn my dread where that track is grandiose and represents you doing ehat the song implies burning all your dread cause you know it's your last stand against something you're told you can't beat, while darkness has clapping in unison and a more upbeat spirited feel that makes it feel like you've got hands on your back knowing this thing can be killed and after facing nyx this thing isn't even close, really shows the mentality and growth of the cast.

There's also that though SEES is determined, that darkness still exists within them. From 1:09 to 1:20 the track "sinks" as the guitar struggles with it, before the there's one of those claps and the guitar alongside Brand New Days overpower it.

Well it's sad that P3 Portable (and the remaster) doesn't have anime cutscenes, doesn't have regular running around movement (except in the dungeons and tartarus) and also lacks "the Answer" part of FES. But atleast you can play as FeMC which adds different social links that you didn't have before + a few new songs on FeMC route. Also, for me the game is on Normal by default but it has 2 modes that are easier and you can customize the difficulty (increase XP gain, turn on that when you game over everybody is revived etc.). Lastly being able to control your party does make you a lot stronger and except for a few enemy encounters the game is still pretty easy on normal as long as you level high enough

i think i understand the name of this theme now. even a shadow can technically represent some level of light within us, even if the reason for its suppression is wrapped in darkness. it ultimately represents our answer. our truth. the darkness that restrains it however, is absolute in its nature. its definition and being is everything that is erebus. darkness entraps us all, as darkness is human will. no matter what we do, our actions will leave behind an undeniable truth that will never change. can we still move forward and fight, even in the face of our selfishness? can we carry the weight and sin of being human?

Clear 6 dungeons. Get animated memories of the party members that you already knew in the base game. Defeat this one big monster at the end. Lore implications are a bit small.

It's definitely boring for the most part because it's super grindy, every single shadow has copious amount of evade, you miss 2 every 5 turns, not having access to the compedium is terrible and the ending felt kinda forced after all the dark stuff that happened but we get Metis who is the literal best party member out of every persona game(gameplay wise) and looks dope, it has the coolest battles out of the entire series too, fighting persona users that aren't pushovers like Strega was awesome and i wish it happened more often, the extra bit of background on the party members and shadows was cool too, personally think that the last few battles in The answer alone were better than the entire main game lol.
