We must be some of the few people that like Spencer's vocals ....I see alot negative comments about his vocals.... I think Spencer is a one in a million. Even the lyrics are always dope!

@@bryceoconnor3927 people talk shit about him because he used to be really nasal and his tone is very poppy, but its undeniable that the dude can sing literally whatever he wants, from lower notes to really high notes, singing screams, high and low screams, gutturals, dude is definitely one of the most complete singer in metal
periphery is my all-time favorite band. The guys are all insanely talented. Every song is so different and has its own elements. Very cool for you to react to this.

@@Wiznarskiyeah man, I didn't get into the Juggernauts until after listening the sht out of P5 and I love the connections and references between the three records. I guess you could call it musical world building.
to reference Misha, they all don't like playing guitar solos especially since they have to play them live lol. they usually would rather let things be instrumental or have vocal parts. But if something really calls for a solo, they all have a very distinct sound to their soloing (Misha's proggier Meshuggahy scales and runs, Mark's liquidy slidey jumpy style, or Jake's super clean and melodic phrasings), so they can usually easily decide which fits the song/part best! it's funny that Misha has a solo on their first new single because he was the one saying he never wants to play a solo again after the last album

@@MrFRNTIK oh absolutely. But we all know how much perfection people demand now. One missed note, or one pitchy vocal performance and the internet will eat you alive… people are so used to hearing perfect takes on albums and can’t believe what music really sounds like live

@@ericswearingenmusic9967 this is basically why I'm drifting away from a tonne of modern metal bands lately. Despite the fact compositionally they are all writing incredible music, it's literally impossible to play with out being able to control every little detail like you can in a production process. As you said so many people think that all this perfect music is possible 100 percent of the time and it simply isn't.
That solo section is devastating. I’ve always loved the apparent Meshuggah influence in their music

Thats what I was just thinking. Those very ambient and dissonant solos with very disconnected lead parts. Definitely meshuggah inspired but I love that!

That's how good they are, they can quote Meshuggah without it seeming like rip off or gimmick.
Periphery really has us jumping into an elevator mid-song and I love it.
I love periphery solos because its not about the technicality of it and is purely based on note choice. Melody over everything

Herman your insights are spot on. Fans know the band always does their own thing and we love it. It's fun to join them for the ride. You must be told though... you gut punched us all with that break you timed right in the mid of Spencers ripping it up...
they've been releasing great albums over the years, always evolving. I love these guys, it's a pleasure to see what they've been up to
Periphery obviously has some serious work ethic...this song is fire for sure....loved the unexpected changes at the end...it actually reminded me of Ola Englund's solo album, where a sax comes in toward the end of a tune and is just beautiful...also Misha's solo seems an homage to a Fredrick Thorndall solo....loved that...I have tried to learn some meshuggah solos and my brain got fried...

I love Periphery and I'm so happy you gave your perspective as a fan but also as a musician (and one who knows the industry). I'm glad Periphery does what they want and that they're able to. And Wildfire is a jam! I do want to also say, and you mentioned it too, their composition/arrangements and overall penchant for getting what they want is incredible.

been a fan since 2010, I'm excited for you since you have about 15 years of Periphery to look back upon LOL like 8 albums or something (Periphery 1, 2, Clear, Alpha/Omega, 3, 4, 5 or something) Periphery II was my favorite album, lots of lovely moments in that album. Have a Blast (insane! has Guthrie Govan and violins on it), Luck as a Constant, and The Gods Must Be Crazy! are my favorite songs off that album welcome to periphery!!!

@@caixiuying8901 popular opinion probably, but the last minute of Omega (the song) permanently fused the albums and it’s an incredible moment. It’s hard for me to consider them two separate albums at this point.
It's good that you have been introduced in the modern metal/core/djent generes and It would be interesting that you could implement those new influences on Dragonforce's music. Mixing some of both worlds, the classic influence from power metal and the new kind of riffs, dissonances, breakdowns from modern things similar as you did in The Game.

Preach! When Spencer screamed "It's djentin' time" and started to djent all over the place, I almost died from joy.
I find songs like this to be very refreshing. Songs that follow trends and the basics for guaranteed success are not bad, but hearing a song that just doesn't give a f*ck is nice. No lie I would listen to that mid jazz bit as a standalone song lol.

You'd fuckin love Leprous man, hardly any screams and just as technically skilled as Periphery, I'd argue they're more creative and unique as songwriters too. I'd start with Bonneville and the drum playthrough of Illuminate

periphery mastodon meshuggah nuance is the game they all have progressive down to a science and all them have their own variety.
The thing about these guys, the three guitarists all bring a different style to the table. Adam and Matt are just monsters and add so much to the music. The style of the solo in that song reminded me of some of Meshugga's work on the album "Nothing".

This is what good music should make you feel. It should take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Part of the reason I like Dragonforce and Periphery. They make you feel a certain type of way.

I was lucky enough to see Periphery about two months before full on lockdowns from covid. Hearing Spencer live was like...holy shit! That dude can fucking belt out some vocals. If somebody thinks he only sounds that good in a studio...you are wrong. He's insane! The rest of the band was phenomenal as well. It did suck not having a live bassist though.

Me too! I saw them in atlanta in february of 2020, the day before Spencer got laryngitis. It was an insane concert, they could have just done Reptile and it would have been an amazing show.

saw them in 2019 in são paulo and it was one of if not the best night of my life, i had my best friend with me and the concert was incredible, spencer was flawless, everyone in the band was perfect, i can't wait for them to come here again

I started my journey at metal by listening to every single DragonForce album at the time. Then my taste kept evolving, as I now also love djent. Its funny watching my former genre and my present being kind of collided

Misha was -and is- a huge Meshuggah fan. Meshuggah has the title for the ‘djent originators’, However, Periphery has taken that torch (here and there) and ran to sagittarius A*. But I would like to say that Periphery helped popularize the sound of the ‘genre’. There is no question the impact Periphery has had -and still has- on ‘their’ genre. I always get inspired by listening to new stuff from Periphery, they are innovators and truly unique.

2:50 "the innovator of this subgenre of metal... it's not djent, it's something!" lol at this point anyone debating whether djent is a genre, including Periphery themselves, is just hung up on the etymology of the word, that it's an onomatopoeia of a palm muted power chord. but thanks to the way language evolves, onomatopoeias have and do serve as the names of genres. see: ska and beebop.
This one actually feels like the periphery I like. Listened to the last album like once or twice and was done with it.

I felt like everything sandwiched between Periphery II and IV was just meh Clear, Alpha, Omega, III, IV, whatever else they might have written, I just forgot about it PI was so foundational that I can't blame them for mostly just having cool sections rather than coherent songs, but PII had always remained my most "complete" periphery album V seems like I might enjoy it though, sounds like an evenly balanced combination of every album they've released previously, not even in a bad way
To be honest it doesn't really seem like "new heights" this is just the same heights. Good song, but nothing different or groundbreaking.

It’s true they have similar qualities but neither of those bands have nearly as much of an emphasis on melody as periphery does. I know it’s the meme to say they’re a meshuggah ripoff but that just couldn’t be further from the truth.

The solo was great, super interesting. Don't really care much about the rest of the song though.
They’re good, I just wish they stopped doing that whining pop punk “blink 182/green day” clean vocals that every modern metal band is doing. It’s pretty cringe.

I disagree, the juggernauts sounded very different from p1 and p2, p3 did feel like periphery going back to their roots, but p4 also sounded very different. So I'm excited to see what p5 is going to bring
